“Heaven on Earth”

October 2023 - Villa Mitrea was truly “Heaven on Earth”. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by Balda’s lovely daughter Francesca and his beautiful wife. Francesca gave us a tour of their villa and did a great job translating for her Mom.

When you walk in the doors, you feel the grandness immediately! Villa Mitrea was above and beyond our expectations. The pictures you see online are accurate but even better in person! Three very large bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms, gourmet kitchen and dining area, therapeutic jet tub over looking the terrace. The terrace was the crème de la crème with the most spectacular views and furnishings were top notch. We enjoyed many bottles of Balda’s red wine and dinners in the evening on the beautiful terrace, which was as spectacular at night as it was during the day. Unfortunately, we did not get a chance for Balda to cook for us as it did not work out with our schedules. I would highly recommend booking him in advance if you have the pleasure of staying in Villa Mitrea.

Balda and his family are extraordinary hosts and are quick to respond to any of your questions or requests. We did not want to leave their gorgeous, clean, comfortable villa. We will definitely be back some day and look forward to enjoying a gourmet dinner with Balda. Thank you for letting us into your incredible home! Everything was exceptional! Grazie 1 milione. Donna and Doug.

I highly recommend using Summer In Italy to book your stay in Italy. I would not have found Villa Mitrea if I had not requested reservation through Summer In Italy. Luca was amazing and very knowledgeable of the area. When we decided not to stay in Praiano, he sent me information for Positano within hours, hence finding Villa Mitrea. Luca and his colleague Klint at Summer In Italy made our trip to Positano effortless. Not only finding us Villa Mitrea but sending us contacts for transportation from Naples to Positano. Thank you for all your help in making our trip to Positano a dream come true. Grazie mille, Donna and Doug.

Travel tips

  • The location is perfect. You are within walking distance to town and loads are restaurant’s within minutes of the villa.
  • We walked everywhere and took a ferry over to Capri. Unfortunately the ferries / boats stopped the second day we got there so we were not able to do our private boat tour. We will save that for next time. We were there Oct. 23-27 so keep that in mind if traveling to Positano.
  • Positano is so beautiful and lots to see so we enjoyed the sights in the town.

AMAZING! Enjoyed every minute of our stay

July 2023 - Villa Mitrea was AMAZING, and enjoyed every minute of our stay. Clean and spacious and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Gourmet kitchen, jacuzzi, separate bathrooms for each bedroom, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth stereo.

It's within walking distance of everything you would want to do in Positano as well as the ferry to Capri and Sorrento.

I wouldn't change a thing, we'd go back in a heartbeat, as it was far more than we even expected!

If these are the properties you have to offer folks who are traveling to Italy, you're all set. :)

Travel tips

  • Everything is within a half mile walk at the most. Restaurants, shops, markets. There is a but stop right across the street from the staircase to the villa.
  • We were able to see fireworks from our patio and walk just minutes in either direction to have late night cocktails or the markets nearby carried a varied selection of items needed for a week long stay.
  • The one tip/advice I would give people who have never been to this part of Italy, "be prepared to climb a lot of stairs and hilly roads". There is a reason why none of the locals are overweight and skinny, they got to climb stairs/hills all day long. It is 30-40 stairs from the road to the villa entrance or the same up the back to the road where there is a GREAT little market run by a sweet lady who makes the best meatballs you will ever have!
  • The owner of the villa is a chef and if available you can hire his services to cook you a meal in the villa to the menu of your liking. We did this and will tell you it was well worth the money as not only is he a talented chef but also a wine expert and makes his own wine and olive oil and took the time in between the different bottles to explain the differences of each of the wines.
  • We also chartered a private boat for a day to go to the grottoes and see the coast. Was money WELL spent as we could bring what we wanted, swim whenever we wanted and the captain was well educated in the area historically as well as little places to see and eat, and aside from the villa was the highlight of our week in Positano.
  • If you want a cab, its $30 Euros not matter where you go in Positano and drivers don't bargain.

Thank you for the best vacation of our lives!

June 2023 - Our family of 5 had the most incredible time here! The location is perfect. Just a few steps in either direction are some of the best restaurants that Positano has to offer, such as Restaurant Next2 and Restaurant Da Vincenzo. A short 15 minute walk brings you to all of the amazing shops and more restaurants.

The villa itself was also remarkable with beautiful views, comfortable beds with air conditioning in each and each had its own bathroom. We loved the kitchen and the amenities.

Our favorite thing about staying there was meeting the owner Balda, who went above and beyond to make our stay magical! Whatever you do, hire him to cook for you at the villa one evening. Not only was it only delicious, but Balda was so wonderful in sharing his passions. Our teenagers loved sitting at the island to watch him prepare everything and answer their questions. It will be a night we will never forget. Thank you for the best vacation of our lives!

We can’t think of anything! It was simply perfect for us!

Now that I know about Summer In Italy, we will check them out if we come back.

Travel tips

  • Go shopping, visit the amazing restaurants, take a boat to Capri for the day, and visit some nearby spots.

Outstanding property!

June 2023 - Villa Mitrea was an outstanding property! We spent most of our time on the outdoor terrace enjoying morning coffee as well as midday lunch and evening wine! It was clean, well equipped and Balda, the owner, couldn’t be more accommodating! We also had Balda cook for us with wine pairings - and with him being both a chef and sommelier, this was well worth the experience.

We have always had a great experience with Summer In Italy. This was our second villa that we rented in Positano and both were outstanding!

Travel tips

  • Nearby restaurants were very good such as Restaurant Mediterraneo and Restaurant Il Fornillo for pizza.
  • There’s free shuttle service to Restaurant Da Costantino and Restaurant La Tagliata which are located in the hills above. Both restaurants were very good!
  • Da Adolfo beach club was also a fun day at the beach with a great lunch and drinks. The free boat shuttle will pick you up at the ferry dock.

Absolutely amazing villa, perfect location

May 2023 - Absolutely amazing villa. Location was perfect for Positano. Close to everything but far enough away to have some additional tranquility from the main beach and port area. Views were stunning and the amenities were great. Villa was spacious, clean, comfortable and modern.

Balda [the owner] was great. The service and attention were great. Really there is nothing that is needed to be changes. Exceptional job.

Summer In Italy did a great job with the booking and timely information and feedback. Felt secure and professional through the whole process. All feedback and responses were timely.

We had an incredible stay!

April 2023 - We had an incredible stay at Villa Mitrea! It is very spacious and the terrace catches sun most of the day which makes it a lovely place to sit and relax! The villa is centrally located and you can walk down to the beach in about 10 mins. They are lots of cute shops and restaurants close by as well. We can't recommend enough!

Communication with the owner was great! He was very helpful and quick to respond whenever we had a question.

The communication was great - everyone at Summer In Italy was very fast and helpful! The ad was very representative of what we were getting. Really appreciate the detailed customer service!

Travel tips

  • Carve out time to relax on the terrace - it was one of the best parts of the trip!
  • We didn't have time to do the cooking class with our host but wished that we had, so would recommend booking that in advance.
  • Book trip to Capri was amazing! We went in late April which was just before "peak season" and would definitely recommend as a great time of year before it gets super crowded.

Lovely home convenient to everything, we had the most perfect stay!

December 2022 - We spent the Christmas holiday (family of 5 with 3 teenage children) at Villa Mitrea and had the most perfect stay! Villa Mitrea, the owner, and Summer In Italy made the whole process very easy to book and provided a wealth of info about the villa itself and the surrounding area.

It is an absolutely lovely home on the hillside in Positano, convenient to everything. Our two favorite things about Villa Mitrea - there is a wall of sliding glass doors that fully open onto the oversize terrace that we sat on daily, plus a stunning jacuzzi tucked next to the living room that we used nightly. The villa was in perfect condition, the kitchen was large and well appointed and we felt right at home. Our only sadness is that, with so much to do, we never had an opportunity to have a glass of wine with the owner :)

You made the whole process very smooth and easy, thank you!

Travel tips

  • Make sure to set aside some time to just sit and enjoy Positano from the terrace of Villa Mitrea.

Beautiful villa

October 2022 - This is a beautiful villa and we all enjoyed our stay there. It's well-furnished and the kitchen is extremely well-equipped. The view from the terrace is to die for.

Summer in Italy has been great to work with. We've booked with them several times and been happy using them.

Travel tips

  • Our favorite restaurant in Positano, Da Vincenzo, is just down the road. We also enjoyed the Mediterraneo, which is even closer.
  • For a day trip, I suggest that you take the SITA bus, or better yet, a ferry, to Amalfi and then a bus up to Ravello, where the views from the Villa Cimbrone are stunning. We like to take the ferry to Capri, too.

Wonderful family vacation in the heart of Positano!

October 2022 - We had a wonderful family vacation at this beautiful villa in the heart of Positano!

Our family of 6 adults was extremely comfortable in the 3BR villa with nice size bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a big dining room/kitchen to hang and cook in. The balcony was huge with lounge chairs and a big table/chairs, and had an amazing view of the water. The place was well located near lots of good restaurants and shops, and you could either walk down the steps or on the road to the beach.

The owner is also a chef and sommelier, and he cooked an amazing meal for us one night with a wine tasting.

Overall a perfect visit to the Amalfi Coast! Thank you!!

Fantastic. Your communication and help was just amazing. We will use your service again in the future. Thank you to everyone at Summer In Italy.

Travel tips

  • We did almost daily day trips via ferry (instead of hiring a car service). It was the most efficient and fastest way to all of the places we visited (Capri, Amalfi, Sorrento).
  • If you have the opportunity, have Mr. Baldassare cook dinner for your party one evening. That was the absolute highlight of our trip.

Perfect place for what we needed

August 2022 - Baldasarre's villa has been in his family for 600 years. The 3 bedroom villa was the perfect place for what we needed and the location provided for a reasonably easy walk to town and the marina. Although the villa has three bedrooms, we only had 4 people, so our family had more than enough room. The best part about the property was the outdoor living space, which provided a large area with lounge seating, a large dinning table and amazing views of the sea and Positano.

On the last night, we decided to engage Baldassarre to cook us a fantastic dinner. He delivered several very tasty courses and a variety of food - and shared stories, great wine and we had an amazingly evening. Thank you to Baldassarre - he is amazing host.

Spacious and well-appointed property with a breathtaking view

May 2022 - Our group, which consisted of 2 couples, loved Villa Mitrea. We stayed there in late May, 2022. It is a spacious and well-appointed property. The view is breathtaking. The house is about a 15 minute walk to the beach.

We hired the owner, who is a chef and sommelier, to cook for us one evening. He prepared fabulous food, accompanied with wine pairings.

We hope to return to Villa Mitrea.

Luca and his staff at Summer In Italy are first-rate. Very responsive to our questions. They provided helpful tips and promptly responded to several questions we had prior to arriving at the house.

Exceeded our expectations, we would love to stay there again

May 2022 - My husband, daughter, son-in-law, and I just spent a wonderful week in Villa Mitrea. It exceeded our expectations.

We spent most of our time on the beautiful terrace. The views were spectacular, both during the day and at night. We found out how much we appreciated the location on the day we went down to the dock and walked back through the area of Positano closest to the beach and the dock. Our villa was in a much quieter, more peaceful location. The kitchen was modern and very well stocked, and the beds were comfortable. We would love to stay there again.

Summer In Italy was a joy to work with. We had initially booked a villa for September of 2020, and they worked with us through two cancellations and re-bookings. They were always responsive and helpful. I will always book with them for any future trips to Italy.

Travel tips

  • 1. As others have stated, it is worthwhile to have Mr. Baldasarre cook at the villa for you one night. That was a delightful evening.
  • 2. As with most villas in Positano, there were about 40-50 stone steps leading to it. That was a little daunting at first, but we got used to it quickly.
  • 3. There were a couple of little groceries, good restaurants, some lovely shops, and a great little pharmacy within easy walking distance. We usually ate at restaurants that were close to the villa because we put in full days and were too tired to go far for dinner. Restaurant Mediterraneo was a favorite, both for the friendly service and the singer who performed on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. He was such fun. There were several other restaurants within easy walking distance, too, and all were good.
  • 4. We were very pleased with Amalfi Car Limousine Services and would highly recommend. They provided our transfers both to and from the airport and also took us on a day trip to Pompeii, which included lunch and a wine tasting. In every case they arrived ahead of time in comfortable, air conditioned vans.

Clean, spacious, well equipped and the outdoor terrace and view were a plus!

March 2022 - This property was so perfect for our group of 3 couples, age 75, that other accommodations on our 3 week tour of Italy/Sicily didn't compete.

Villa Mitrea was clean, spacious, well equipped and the outdoor terrace and view were a plus. Although we ate at many of Positano's fabulous restaurants, it was so fun and delicious to have Mr. Baldassarre cook a Sicilian dinner at the villa. He is opening a restaurant in town and we would suggest trying it, based on the quality of our dinner.

The service from Luca and the staff at Summer In Italy was above and beyond our expectations. Because of Covid this trip was rescheduled 3 times and they were most helpful with reservations, communications, booking Mr. Baldassarre for our villa dinner and keeping us up to date with travel plans and check-in.

Travel tips

  • Pizza down the street at Saraceno D'Oro was delicious, Grottino Azzurro was good and fun, lunch at Il Fornillo was a highlight for both food and view and we enjoyed our meal at C'era Una Volta so much we ate there 2 nights.
  • Fabrizio Belleni was wonderful. He picked us up in Positano and took us to Pompeii and Herculean one day and another day we met him in Naples for a tour. Very knowledgeable and personable.

Everything about this property was wonderful

October 2019 - Our group of 3 stayed at Villa Mitrea in October 2019. Everything about this property was wonderful, especially the owner Baldassarre, who was very welcoming and gracious.

The property is well appointed and comfortable with lots of space and privacy. The highlight of this property is definitely the indoor/outdoor terrace - when it gets too hot to be outside in the full sun, you can just retreat to the shaded indoor area and still feel as part of the outdoors.

The location was close to great restaurants and shopping for supplies and groceries were nearby and convenient. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed all of our meals on the fabulous terrace enjoying the view.

Of particular note was a meal prepared by the villa owner, Baldassarre - a wonderful evening with lovely paired wines and beautiful food and his charming personality. The property and Baldassare are perfect!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Villa Mitrea and would definitely book into this property again if the opportunity arises.

I found Summer In Italy when I was looking for a villa for our trip to the Amalfi Coast. I found Summer In Italy's property descriptions to be the most helpful and easiest platform for researching different properties and their amenities. Two of our group have mild mobility issues and the very specific details of your reviews made it so easy to determine whether a property would be appropriate for our group. I can't say enough wonderful things about Luca and everyone at Summer In Italy. Everyone was so helpful, attentive and kind - I will definitely recommend the company to anyone looking to book a stay in Italy.

Great experience with Luca. Always returned my emails promptly!

Travel tips

  • Every day is beautiful in Positano.
  • All the restaurants we tried great. One of our favorites is Restaurant Mediterraneo which is right next to the house. The staff is so fun and entertaining!
  • Beware of the hundreds of stairs in Positano. We are an active family so it was not a problem, but visitors should be ready to walk LOTS of stairs or the one way road to all restaurants and beaches.
  • We went to Capri and took a 4 hours private island tour through Capri Boat Service. This was our best day and most memorable excursion!
  • Cooking with Francesca was wonderful. So fun making pizza and the food and wine came for hours after! Plan your car service though to the get there. We took a bus, then walked very far to the place. A shuttle service runs 250 euro. Worth the walk from Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi town center.

Villa Mitrea is breathtaking!!

May 2019 - My family and I (six adults/three couples) stayed at the elegant Villa Mitrea for 6 days/5nights. The exquisite decor was strikingly beautiful and the accommodations were extremely comfortable.

The ocean view from the large terrace captivated our attention from the moment we arrived. We actually spent the majority of our time on the terrace sharing meals, wine and cheese etc. It was the perfect place to relax, share quality time with family and soak in the sun and fabulous ocean views.

The owner was the perfect host! He met us when we arrived and helped with our luggage. He made sure we were comfortable during the check in and gave us great tips on nearby shopping and restaurants. He is also a Chef and Sommelier. He prepared a delicious seafood and Italian dinner for us with each course paired with the perfect wine. Throughout our stay, he was always reachable and sincere in his efforts to ensure we enjoyed our stay.

If you like outdoor space and a great view, with full kitchen and washing machine this place has it all plus some

April 2019 - Villa Mitrea was a great vacation spot for my wife and I and 3 sons (ages 24, 22, 20). Great location only steps to the beach, restaurants and shopping and transportation. When I say steps, I mean you will get a work out but that is what it is like all over Positano and Amalfi Coast.

The owner Baldassarre met us at the property and showed us around. He is a very talented individual as a chef, wine maker and craftsman and was a text away at all times.

If you like outdoor space and a great view, with full kitchen and washing machine this place has it all plus some.

Travel tips

Fabulous, fantastic experience

October 2017 - Fabulous, fantastic experience. We could not have asked for anything more. It’s perfect as is. We hope to return someday and would not consider staying anywhere else.

Don’t miss out on a private dinner catered by Baldasarre [the owner] — it was the best we had in our two weeks in Italy.

Very impressive and attentive operation. Instructions and directions were great. Melanie and Luca were very helpful as was everyone else. Would book again with Summer In Italy.

Travel tips

  • Must do: “Walk of the Gods” — take a taxi to Bomerano to start.
  • Take a private boat to Capri for a day trip.
  • Eat at Restaurant Saraceno d’Oro.
  • Restaurant La Tagliata is too touristy.

A view that allows full appreciation of the beautiful scene

September 2017 - Deluxe accommodation in Positano positioned with a view that allows full appreciation of the beautiful scene. Two of the three bedrooms have balconies and the terrace off the living room is a wonderful space. Lots of living space, large kitchen.

Close to good restaurants. Far enough from the crowded lower level of town but not too far to walk (but it is a good workout uphill to get home). Very close to a bus stop (the intra-town bus runs every 30 minutes). Keep in mind that its door is 45 steps up from the street, so it's not appropriate for everyone.

Would recommend Villa Mitrea highly.

Travel tips

  • Take an excursion to Ravello, walk the Path of the Gods, cruise along the coast, enjoy the unbelievably gorgeous scenery.

We loved our week... Wish it would have been 2 or 3 weeks!

June 2017 - We loved our week at Villa Mitrea... Wish it would have been 2 or 3 weeks! This was our second time renting a villa in Positano (thru Summer In Italy) and we were impressed with Villa Mitrea's modern finishes. We unexpectedly loved the sectional couch just off the terrace. And the views were more amazing than we expected. More than enough space/privacy for two couples, easily could have accommodated 3 couples or some children. The location was superb! In the midst of some of the best restaurants in Positano and not too far from the pedestrian area of the town or the beach (the steps to Fornillo Beach were easier than expected).

Baldassarre, the owner, made our vacation unforgettable... We took his offer to cook us a meal + wine and not only enjoyed plenty of wine and farm/boat to table cooking, we learned a ton about technique and culture. It was one of the most memorable nights of our trip. As it was Thursday, we asked for a recommendation for Friday's dinner - our last night. Surprisingly he recommended a hotel rooftop in Praiano... This ended up as another most memorable night. He contacted the restaurant on our behalf and we had an excellent table, excellent view, excellent food and drink and an unforgettable sunset over Positano and Capri for our final night.

This being our second trip to Positano via Summer In Italy, we can assure you it will be an amazing vacation no matter where you stay, but have to say Villa Mitrea will make it phenomenal. We loved our stay and can't wait to return!!!

Personalized, friendly and prompt service from Summer In Italy!

Travel tips

  • Take a boat trip around Capri (recommend Gianni's boats, they will pick you up in Positano for a full day trip).
  • Take a walking tour your first day to acclimate (Walk Positano by Gabriella).
  • Eat dinner at Restaurant Saraceno D'Oro and Restaurant Next2.
  • Personal opinion, don't bother taking a shuttle to Montepertuso for dinner... Compared to Villa Mitrea the view was disappointing, and food/experience was so-so compared to so many great options within steps of the villa.

We absolutely loved our stay at Villa Mitrea!

May 2017 - We absolutely loved our stay at Villa Mitrea! Not only is the villa itself (particularly the terrace and view) stunningly beautiful, the location is perfect! With three equally appointed crisp and clean en-suite bedrooms, it was easy to travel with another couple and not feel as though one is getting a palatial master suite and the other getting the kids' room. With the glass wall of sliding doors that open from the living room onto the terrace, even if the weather is not perfect, you still can enjoy the amazing view. The kitchen is well stocked with all the utensils and appliances you need.

Baldassarre, the owner, is extremely friendly and kind. We did not have any issues whatsoever during our stay, but he was a quick text away if we needed anything.

Booking through Summer In Italy was a breeze. They, too, are extremely efficient and friendly. If we return to the Amalfi Coast, we will definitely stay at Villa Mitrea again! We have already recommended it to family and friends!

Travel tips

  • Most mornings we walked a very short distance to a sweet market to get freshly baked items and all the groceries we needed.
  • There are adorable shops along the way with friendly shopkeepers as well as some delicious restaurants.
  • It was an easy, beautiful stroll downtown to the hustle and bustle of a much loved vacation spot.

August 2015 - We loved Villa Mitrea.

It has a spectacular view of the harbor. It is beautifully decorated, with some wonderful works of art. Very stylish. It is very well appointed.

It is generally well located, although the walk down to and up from the beach was hard for older folks, as we were. But the bus stops is almost in front of the property and the neighborhood has good restaurants.

Travel tips

  • Do take advantage of the opportunity to have Baldassarre cook for you. The price was reasonable for a multi-course delicious meal with wine and Baldassarre is charming and very helpful with travel advice.
  • You must make the drive from Positano to Amalfi and then up to Ravello. It can be done by bus but we used a driver suggested by Baldassarre and that day was the highlight of our trip.
  • Be aware that the entrance to the villa is up flight and a half of steep rock steps.

Travel tips

  • The view is magnificent, but it is a hike up and down the mountain every day. We loved it but I could see it may not be for everyone. Make sure you are in good shape when you go there.
  • Make sure that you eat at least once at Restaurant Mediterraneo just up the street. Leonardo and his family do a fantastic job running that place and the service and food are incredible.

  • Boat tours right on the beach in Positano. Incredible service and value.

Villa Mitrea is spectacular with a view that is breathtaking. It is very modern, clean and complete with everything you may need. The location is perfect. We stayed in the property with our 2 daughters, it would be great for 3 couples as well.

We took other reviewer's advice and had Baldassarre cook for us one evening. He was most gracious in accommodating last minute additions. The food was so simply delicious and the wine was outstanding. The muscles he made were the best we have ever had... This coming from a native Bostonian! He is an amazing host and took time to give us suggestions and we really enjoyed visiting with him.

Keep on doing what you are doing! We had an amazing time and really enjoyed and appreciated you and your beautiful villa. Thank you!

Summer In Italy has wonderful customer service and follow up. Thank you for your detailed information and quick responses.

Travel tips

  • Take a boat ride around Capri... The island itself was disappointing, very crowded with hard sell restaurants and vendors but the boat ride on the Princess Boats was a lot of fun!
  • Make a reservation for lunch and boat ride to Da Adolfo, a beach and restaurant only accessible by boat. It is very small and an experience. Gwyneth Paltrow was just there.
  • Take a guided hike at Walk of The Gods. It was breathtaking and great exercise.
  • Visit the beach and you will be amazed by all of the incredible sea glass and tile.
  • We took all of Baldassarre's restaurant recommendations and were not disappointed!
  • Get a reservation for dinner at sunset at Restaurant La Tagliata... There is no menu and the food an wine just flow so go with an appetite! Overall, the food, people and environment were amazing!

June 2015 - Villa Mitrea was perfect for our family of five -- we were traveling with our three adult age children -- and the bedroom and bathroom arrangement worked great for all of us.

The outdoor patio/terrace has a spectacular view of the water as well as the town. There were many days that we were all content to stay at the house sunning and reading books on the terrace.

Villa Mitrea is in a great location and easy to get to the center of the town as well as the beach. If you are not up for taking all of the steps up and down to the beach, the road is an easy and enjoyable walk.

The owner, Baldassarre, is very accommodating and will offer guidance on places to go in Positano as well as other towns on the coast.

Travel tips

  • The highlight of our week at Villa Mitrea was having Baldassarre come to the villa and do a cooking and wine tasting evening for our family. Everyone enjoyed being in the kitchen helping with the preparations of all the different dishes for the evening. The food and wine pairings were perfect and were all served out on the terrace. This was a great experience into the true cooking style of Italy all while sipping on local Italian wines.
  • We would also recommend a sunset cruise arranged by Baldassarre with dinner prepared and served while out on the water. We spent the entire day on a private boat and ended the day watching the gorgeous sunset and feasting on amazing dishes prepared by Baldassarre once again.

The owner (Baldassarre) was a delight to deal with and organized for our car to be collected on arrival and parked securely in a garage close by. He spent time explaining the facilities of the property and even gave us a tour of his "wine cellar", with some useful information about Italian wines!

September 2013 - Our time at Villa Mitrea was absolutely wonderful! The villa is in a beautiful location with stunning views of the ocean and mountain sides!

The villa is spacious, light and airy and quite comfortable. The terrace was our favorite place to spend time. We had our coffee out there in the mornings, wine in the afternoons and cocktails in the evenings.

The beds, by American standards are not very comfortable, however after traveling all over Italy we realized this is the way they are. The views from the two master bedrooms made up for it.

We would highly recommend Villa Mitrea and would stay there again! Your web site was the best one we found!

Travel tips

  • The owner will give you directions to the market which is a less than ten minute walk down the street. My advice is to bring a few cloth shopping bags with you to carry your groceries back.

April 2013 - Villa Mitrea was the perfect place for us. We loved having lots of space inside and out.

We lived mostly out on the terrace since the weather was beautiful. The views were spectacular and we began each morning out there with a two hour breakfast. The kitchen was well equipped and was great for our group of 6. Bathrooms were all recently renovated and mattresses were all very comfortable.

Location of villa also made it perfect. Minimal steps to the street and then not a far walk to shops, restaurants and markets.

Luca and crew from Summer in Italy responded very quickly with every request we had in the planning stages. They made it very easy and would definitely use them again.

Travel tips

  • Comfortable shoes are a must.
  • Our favorite market for daily breakfast food, wine, cheese and fruit was Latteria just down the street on the right. Owner Lucia and daughter Isabella were also very helpful in providing tips for travel to nearby towns.
  • Favorite restaurant was Saraceno D'oro just up the hill from the villa. Daniele and his family took good care of all week!
  • Restaurant da Vincenzo was also great food just a few steps down the hill.
  • We had a fun night up on top of the mountain at the La Tagliata restaurant. They pick up and drop off. 35 euros per person with endless supply of food and drink.
  • Capri and Ravello definitely worth the trip out. Ferry ride to Amalfi much more enjoyable than the bus ride.
  • Highlight was hiking "the footpaths to the gods"(Sentiero degli dei).

October 2012 - We LOVED Villa Mitrea! When you walk in, you can't help but be impressed by the gorgeous space. It is beautifully decorated with artistic touches.

The terrace is spectacular. Having two sitting areas indoors was very nice for us so that our groups could have some privacy. Eating lunch outside on the terrace was great, but we did not have warm enough October weather to eat dinner outside and we found the dining table indoors to be a bit cramped. The bedrooms were perfect for our group (we were there with our young children and their grandparents). The adults each got a nicer room with a balcony and the kids got the room having no balcony (no window either) -- this room was still lovely with the option of opening big windows on the doors to see across the hall to the terrace and views outside.

I don't think that the location of the villa could be any better, but being in Positano, there were 400+ stairs to climb from the water to get to it. The location is great because it provides stunning views (being high up) and also because it is steps away from what seem to be the best restaurants in Positano.

Thank you, Balda, for making your villa so wonderful. We had a fantastic week.

Travel tips

  • Saraceno d'Oro had a great family feel and provided amazing take-out (anything from the menu): we wanted to go back every night. We loved their pizza and 'Saracena' pasta.
  • Restaurant da Vincenzo had a wonderful ambiance and great food. The pasta and grilled vegetables were delicious.
  • We did the 'Discover Positano' walking tour with Christine and LOVED it. It helped us to find shops and enjoy being in Positano more.

September 2012 - We absolutely loved Villa Mitrea and would highly recommend it to others. The property was very artistic and individual, clean, had a brilliant kitchen, but most of all the views were outstanding.

The owner, Balda, was very welcoming and responded quickly to any questions or slight problems e.g. needing a new gas canister.

In addition the villa has a good position in Positano although there are many steps in all directions.

Your communication and support was absolutely excellent.

Travel tips

  • Take the cookery course recommended by the owner - great fun and good wine to go with it.
  • Be prepared to carry your suitcases up a fairly steep flight of steps on arrival. By the end of the holiday you will be quite used to it, but it can be a bit daunting when you first arrive. But there again it is Positano!

October 2011 - We loved it... all 6 of us. Entering the villa took my breath away ... is even nicer that on internet.

The owner greeted us very well, and was very helpful, in carrying our heavy luggage up the 45 steps.

One of the 3 bedrooms does not have a window... but it was very quiet. Each of the other 2 have a balcony window, on the only "car" street in town... if we left the balcony door open (with a screen) we could also hear the ocean waves during the night.

Positano is a very touristic area, including cruise tours. Villa Mitrea is situated high enough, that few tourists are around.

The kitchen is especially comfortable for all 6 to prepare meals, and we enjoyed eating outside, on the incredible terrace with the most beautiful view. We did try 3 of the close by restaurants; they are all excellent.

Excellent service, I will recommend your site and services to anyone who asks me.

Travel tips

  • Be ready to walk up and down in Positano, to the markets and to the beach.
  • Do get around on foot in the city, use to boats to go to Capri and other coastal towns - it is the same time by car or by boat.
  • Do take day trips to Benevento (wine region), Paestum, Vesuvio and Ercolano ruins.
  • Most beaches are made of stone, but the beaches south of Salerno are beautiful sand. Do spend time on that beach (near Paestum).
  • The main "super" market is Delikatessen (as mentioned in the site). It also sells wine. The butcher shop is very close by this market (closed from 1 to 4 PM). The fish market (in morning only) is near the church. Much closer to Villa Mitrea, on the same street (no steps) is a smaller market called Latteria, that we found very convenient for fresh produce, the best olives, deli, cheeses and other groceries.

July 2011 - We enjoyed Villa Mitrea very much. I would stay here again.

Mr. Balda [the owner] was very nice. He tried to make our stay pleasant. The air conditioner in one of the bedrooms was leaking water after a very bad rain, so we could not use it right away, but I have to say that the weather was not too hot.

The house was located in a great area. The view was the best. Beautiful terrace. Could not ask for anything more. I went with 20 year olds and they found plenty to do and it was not to far from beach.

Travel tips

  • Down the block from where we lived was a food market that had the best panini and the family that owned it became our friends.
  • We went to a pension next to the villa to have our cappuccino and croissants every morning with the owner Julia. She was wonderful and full of information. They made our trip great.

May 2011 - Our family LOVED the villa and the town of Positano. There was plenty of space to spread out and relax while enjoying the beautiful views and watching the ocean change colors with the weather and time of day.

We felt very much at home and even did laundry and tripped the circuit breaker, but a phone call to the owner quickly and easily fixed it.

The description on the website was very accurate and the directions and instructions that were sent to us prior to our arrival (including train and bus information) were spot on.

Summer in Italy was very professional. We have already recommended the website to friends and family and will definitely use them again.

Travel tips

  • It is a bit difficult to get to (we took trains and buses and lugged our bags from the bus stop to the villa, which you don't HAVE to do) but it is worth the effort.
  • Knowing we would need basics like toilet paper, soap, etc. made it easy to prepare for our first night without having to shop beforehand -- we just brought those things with us...

November 2010 - We really loved our stay. The actual villa is much larger and nicer than what the pictures show. The deck was amazing and the bedrooms and baths were large and comfortable.

We cooked several nights in the kitchen and found it to be well stocked with everything we needed.

All in all this was a great place to stay for a week.

Summer in Italy did a great job getting things arranged and were there when I needed them upon arriving in Naples.

Travel tips

  • There is no place to do laundry. There is only a dry cleaner nearby ($$$)
  • If you plan on coming during off season (we can in early November) note that virtually everything is closed including hotels, scooter rentals, restaurants and all Internet cafes. That being said, it's a nice time for a quiet get away without the traffic and crowds of the high season.

October 2010 - Villa Mitrea has an excellent location with an excellent view of the ocean.

The villa is spacious, clean and comfortable. The villa offered 2 bedrooms for us to stay as we were two couples, however only 1 bedroom has a window, the other bedroom has no window which my husband and I stayed and make us feel enclosed.

Overall, we enjoyed the villa.

I am happy with the service of Summer In Italy as I was provided a lot of information and assistance to make our travel to Positano pleasant. I decided to book with your company after browsing the internet and received good input about your service.

Travel tips

  • My advice for future guests is that they do not rent a car while in Positano as the road is very treacherous for driving. Public transportation is very convenient.
  • All the restaurants near Villa Mitrea have great food. Shops are walking distance.
  • We enjoyed the day trip by boat to Capri and Amalfi.
  • We enjoyed listening and dancing to the live music at Bar La Zagara which they have every Friday and Saturday evening.
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes especially you have to climb 45 steps to the villa from the main road.

September 2010 - Villa Mitrea was even better than the pictures on the website. We were floored by the size of the terrace! The view is magnificent and it is in a terrific position - near local restaurants on the same road and a 10 minute walk into the main town centre. It has supermarkets nearby and Balda was a great host - very relaxed and did everything possible to ensure our stay was trouble free.

I would definitely recommend this Villa to anybody wanting a great outdoor area, with a fantastic view. It has many steps to the entrance, so suitable only for the fit (or those who would like to get fit!).

It made our trip to Positano very special. Thanks to Balda.

September 2010 - I LOVED Villa Mitrea. The location was ideal. The view spectacular and Balda, the owner was very nice, courteous and attentive.

The only problem was the upstairs vacationers. They were very loud and played loud music every night from 6:00 in the evening until 2:00 in the morning. So we were unable to enjoy our spectacular view because of the annoyance above our heads. It would have been nice to be able to sit on our beautiful terrace without the noise. Unfortunate experience but in defense of Balda, we never told him about it as we were afraid of any repercussions from the upstairs tenants. In hindsight, we should have said something. As it turns out, his brother owns that apartment and this problem could have easily been resolved.

Other than that, we loved it, we loved Positano and would definitely stay at that location again.

Summer in Italy was a pleasure to deal with. We dealt with a different agency for our apartment in Rome and the experience was night and day. I am planning a return visit to Italy in 2 years and will only deal with Summer in Italy. They are professional, courteous, and offered great advice in a timely manner. A pleasure to deal with.

By all means do tell owners about anything that is spoiling your stay! Or, if you think that the situation requires a bit of diplomacy, do tell us! Remember that we are always available and our priority is to make your stay in Italy perfect. It's a pity that you had to endure when it could have been avoided. Thank you so much for your kind attitude, it was very nice of you to put your concern for Balda above your own wishes, and he truly appreciated this. Thank you!!

Travel tips

May 2010 - Positano was our best stop in our 3 weeks sojourn of Italy. Villa Mitrea was one of the reasons. Spacious terrace with an unsurpassed sea view wooed us immediately.

We felt very at home once we adjusted to the floor plan, which is a little quirky.

Best thing was the location. Being away from the noisy part of the town was a plus and one can walk easily or take the orange bus, which stops practically right at the door step.

Only thing we found uncomforting was that one of the bedroom had no outside window and only "outside" opening was to the living area and therefore providing little privacy for that room. Also, no English TV channel... well, that was a small matter.

Travel tips

  • Day trip to Capri via boat was a blast. The tourist information office down from the Chiesa was the best. Very nice and helpful people. Get a schedule of the orange bus, which can help some of the tired legs or take it up to Nocelle and Monteperturso. Then come back down 1700 steps - it's all worth it!

March 2010 - We enjoyed the location and view of Villa Mitrea, especially the outstanding terrace, facing the sea, where we had our breakfast and lunch (before the sun went down). The terrace and "living area" of Villa Mitrea have recently been expanded and much improved over what we saw on the website. Bedrooms are nicely appointed, kitchen work area is small but functional, everything very clean.

Our main concern is that we were cold here in mid-late March, despite mostly sunny weather. As the heating is only in the bedrooms, we could not use the indoor living areas in the afternoon/ evening. We tried to let the heat from one bedroom into the kitchen to eat there, but were still cold. Would not recommend this villa for use at cooler times of year without improvements to heating arrangements.

The owner was very nice too, we should have asked him for extra bedding as we were cold at night, but we knew he was very busy opening a new restaurant.

Our experience with Summer in Italy has been outstanding.

Travel tips

  • Our favourite restaurants (not all are open in March) were the nearby Mediterraneo and Saraceno d'Oro, both owned by the same friendly family! The Saraceno is traditional but very good, while the Mediterraneo (owned by the sons) is more contemporary, with excellent fish dishes and even gluten-free pasta! On the beach, we went to La Cambusa (overpriced and a bit snooty) and Chez Black's (nice).
  • In Amalfi, we enjoyed touring the Paper Museum and the cathedral.
  • In Sorrento, the cathedral has amazing wood inlay work, and the partly medieval cloister of St. Francis next to his church is charming. The Foreigner's Club (behind the Tourist Info office) serves good food on its terrace with an outstanding view of the sea and Mount Vesuvius - but service can be slow.

September 2009 - Villa Mitrea met all of our expectations for view, comfort and convenience. We thought the location was perfect and we made the place our home in Positano. The number of stairs from the villa to the main section of town was much longer than estimated but we made the best of it.

I could have lived on the terrace and we spent as much time as possible out there - it was breathtaking!

The apartment was beautiful and comfortable. We cooked in the kitchen and had everything we needed to feel like we were at home.

We were very pleased with the service we received from Summer in Italy. The reservation process was easy and convenient. On the day we arrived we had trouble finding the villa and the owner spoke no English so he had someone from Summer in Italy call my cell phone and give us directions. The pictures on their website were exactly as the apartment looked so there were no surprises.

Travel tips

  • We rented a car in Rome and drove through a few other cities before going to Positano. I would not recommend bringing a car - there is no parking, narrow one-way streets and scooters make driving very difficult. We ended up paying to park our car for most of the week and took the bus or walked everywhere we wanted to go.
  • We tried most of the restaurants on the street near Villa Mitrea and they were all very good. Ristorante Mediterraneo was probably our favorite. We would also recommend Spiaggia Fornillo for sunbathing/swimming over Spiaggia Grande and there were a few beach cafes there that were also very good lunch spots.

September 2009 - My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Villa Mitrea so much so that we're probably going to go again next year. The place was well equipped and Mr. Baldassare went out of his way to make sure our stay was indeed comfortable like a home away from home - but with the most breathtaking views!

The terrace was just amazing. The furnishings were stylish and contemporary and you just cannot fault the location.

Positano now ranks as our most favourite place and Villa Mitrea has a lot to do with it. It is just a slice of heaven!

I think you guys are incredibly professional and your website is excellent and user-friendly. The description of the property is exactly what we had encountered. We will most definitely book with you again!

Travel tips

  • We decided to stay away from all the tourists and simply do what the locals do (ride a scooter, explore the markets, etc). This decision was well rewarded as we had a blast.
  • The best way to see the coast is by hiring a scooter but as it's quite expensive to do so in Positano (specially if you plan to use it for a couple of days like we have), we suggest you take a 20 minute bus ride to Sorrento where you can hire a really good one at a fraction of the price. Then just enjoy...
  • The best views are on the way from Positano to Praiano, Amalfi and Ravello. This is also the best way to spot your favourite beach (spiaggia).
  • Hire a boat for the day to see the coast from the water (we found Amalfi to have more choices and competitive prices when it comes to boats). The experience is well worth it!

I thought this could be a problem... but it was not. The terrace is wonderful. A great place to enjoy a glass of wine, coffee, etc.

A little difficult to cook in the apartment... but why would you? The restaurants are so reasonable... we brought things from the restaurant back to the room as well.

April 2008 - We loved our stay at Villa Mitrea. The views from the balcony and terrace were incredible and the location was ideal. After spending a week there and seeing the whole city I would pick the same villa again. It was the perfect place.

There are plenty of good restaurants and markets very close. The bedrooms were quiet and very comfortable. I never slept better (maybe it also had something to do with the wine).

The kitchen was equipped with enough cooking supplies and condiments to cook every night if you so choose, and having the bedrooms and baths separate afforded plenty of privacy for each couple. Fantastic!

Travel tips

  • You do not need a car. Parking is a nightmare. Travel by bus and ferry is easy and cheep.

March 2008 - Villa Mitrea had a perfect layout for us. One bedroom was separated from the rest of the place by a wide open protected terrace.

By far the best advantage was the owner, Mr. Baldasarre himself. He helped us considerably with the airlines when our luggage was severely delayed. I mean really helped us. He was also kind enough to give us an invitation to a very special local event that was a classic environment.

You guys were helpful in getting an authentic feel for the area. Everything worked smoothly (except for the luggage which was British Air's fault, and which Mr. Baldasarre helped us with). The choice of owners seems crucial to the comfort of the guests. Ours was truly wonderful.

Travel tips

  • Learn where all the secret stairways are in town and it will save traveling time, and strengthen your legs. The Best Western has a map with the stairs indicated very faintly. Stairs can be discovered where the white lines run across the street rather than along it.
  • Try the Blue Grotto Restaurant(Il Grottino Azurro) just past where the one way street into Positano breaks from the two-way. It was the least touristy.

October 2007 - This was perfect for us. Two huge bedrooms with views and a terrace with lots of room and looking out at a fantastic hillside community and the sea. This was simply beautiful.

The weather was great for us. If it was cold and rainy the lack of a great living room might pose a problem for some. The living room and kitchen are one in the same.

The property manager was very helpful with some great eating suggestions and sights to see. Very short walking distance to 5 good eating establishments and local groceries.

When we arrived by bus to Positano we were told that it was a fairly easy walk to the villa. With luggage not so. Except for the very rugged, I would strongly suggest a porter or taxi service to meet you at the bus stop. This is a hillside community with steep steps and streets. This all adds to the wonderful quaintness, but it must be navigated in the proper way.

Great service. Thanks.

October 2007 - Villa Mitrea was ideally located and suited our purposes very well. There was nothing fancy or luxurious about the place but it was very practical and had every convenience that was needed to make this a perfect holiday on the Amalfi Coast.

Summer In Italy a very useful booking facility and information provided was accurate and useful.

July 2007 - It was perfect for a summer apartment...

A great space to come home to to relax in at the end of the day. The terrace was perfect either day or night.

I initially came across your website doing general Internet searches for accommodation. I chose your site because you had all the information needed to make a decision. Also the personal and instant feedback for an online service was fantastic - thank you!!

Travel tips

  • Good hairdresser and pedicure at the top of the stairs, Mediterranean restaurant 20 m away is excellent and the restaurant 100 m further up does great take away meals.
