The owners were very interested in our tip. You can reach them when you want and they will help you with everything to enjoy your time there. The family is great, we loved them all and spent birthday with them. That was an experience we will never forget.

The booking was more than last second, we were on the road already. I got help by phone and email, everything happened very fast and without any problems. I was very impressed by Summer In Italy.

Authentic old awesome property with a great location and spectacular views and peace and quite yet close enough to major tourist attractions

September 2019 - If you are looking for 5 star don’t go, however if you want a fantastic vacation in an authentic old awesome property with a great location and spectacular views and peace and quite yet close enough to major tourist attractions, then this is the place for you!

The place is awesome and it has a large pool, no it’s not the Ritz but it does have everything you need. We loved the place.

Alberto [the owner] couldn't have been more helpful, we arrived and found wine and olive oil on the table, all fresh from his vineyard. If you have only had olive oil from the stores you are in for a treat, his is awesome and his wine is fantastic. I drink a lot of wine and I reckon his wine would sell for $50 a bottle all day long. Alberto you don’t need to change a thing thank you for sharing your home with us. We will see you again.

Luca gave a full and very accurate description of Villa Gentile, I loved the fact that he didn’t over sell but answered all my questions as a result we booked it and we made the right choice. Thanks Luca! We would use Summer In Italy again and highly recommend them and Villa Gentile.

Travel tips

  • You need a car, there is a lovely village close by and a fantastic open market on Mondays.
  • The location is perfect as for things to see. The list would be too long, you could stay here for a month and still not see enough.
  • My best tip is book it and go to Villa Gentile, you will love it.

This was our third stay at Villa Gentile

October 2018 - This was our third stay at Villa Gentile.

We love it for its central location to many Tuscan sites and for its friendly owners, Alberto and Beatrice (and their daughter Olivia). Our stay was wonderful and we were able to visit four new places on this trip: Assisi, Gubbio, Vinci and Volterra.

We have been Summer In Italy customers for over a decade and they have never disappointed.

Travel tips

  • Cinque di Vino is a wonderful restaurant in San Casciano in Val di Pesa.
  • Wineries near San Gimignano have magnificent wines.

Authentic Tuscan farmhouse

August 2017 - An authentic Tuscan farmhouse overlooking olive groves and grape vines. Sitting in the garden at dusk with the bats flying around above, looking out at the view, it is easy to believe that nothing much has changed in hundreds of years. Except that if it is a little warm you can jump into the swimming pool to cool down a little.

We loved it here and Alberto and Beatrice, the owners, were so welcoming we felt like old friends. Especially as there were a couple of bottles of their wine waiting for us as well.

Excellent service from Summer In Italy - response to our queries was immediate. And the information you sent was both useful and accurate - all your tips on what to expect were very helpful.

Travel tips

We had a wonderful stay

July 2017 - We had a wonderful stay at Villa Gentile with our family of two adults and three children. It is kept in old country style and is very simple and charming. It is part of a wine producing farm, the villa itself and surroundings are very authentic and rustic - in a great way. When into the villa you feel very private and relaxed. You are not disturbed by traffic and can relax and enjoy the countryside.

We enjoyed both the area and the farm and the kids had a great time playing in the swimming pool and with the farm animals consisting of both goats, cats and a donkey. We recommend it unreservedly and plan on coming back

August 2016 - Villa Gentile is a lovely rural rustic retreat, we loved it and will return.

The building is over 200 years old and has retained its character and charm and is located within the vineyard and olive trees.

The indoor table tennis great for a few minutes cool off from the heat or evening entertainment. Swimming in a warm pool in the early morning and late evening a daily 'treat'.

We loved it, lovely location and wonderfully welcoming, we wouldn't want to see anything changed.

The owners are very welcoming and friendly.

We have had a great service from Summer In Italy and will not hesitate to book again. You advised fully of the nature of the property and we were well prepared for its rustic style, it more than lived up to our expectations. We loved it and have already recommended it to others.

Travel tips

  • This is a great place for a relaxing holiday but please remember that it is a rustic retreat, not 5 star hotel accommodation.
  • It is a great location just 25 minutes walking (5 minutes by car) from the town and supermarket.
  • It is an ideal location for visiting all the main attractions (glorious old towns) since it is just a few minutes from all main roads.
  • If you are intending to visit Siena for the horse race, check before you leave to ensure that it has not been cancelled! We didn't but Siena was beautiful and enjoyed.
  • We loved this villa and have no hesitation in recommending it for a truly relaxing holiday, stay for three weeks if you can to fully appreciate its peacefulness.

June 2016 - We had a fabulous time at Villa Gentile and thoroughly enjoyed our six- week stay.

Alberto, Beatrice and Augusta [the owners] were hospitable, attentive and welcoming and responded quickly to any issues that arose because we were the first guests after the winter season.

We love your newsletters! We booked with you because the villa met our requirements and you have communicated very effectively with us. Thank you so much!

Travel tips

  • A car is definitely essential. We had a car for most of the time but needed to walk to the village on the days the car was unavailable. It's a 5.4 km round trip. Actually we enjoyed the walk but it seemed a long way home after a day's sightseeing.
  • We added a lot of specific tips to the visitors' book that should be in the villa. Lots of people have enjoyed this wonderful, authentic stay on a Tuscan vineyard and olive grove. The villa is over 200 years old and steeped in history. Do try it! We will definitely return.
  • Restaurant Machiavelli and wine tour is a must and we enjoyed sampling the local restaurants, coffee, pizza and gelato shops.
  • The deli in Spedaletto has delicious salami, cheeses and fresh pane.
  • We found the Bar Delirus very welcoming of visitors!

October 2015 - My family and I loved Villa Gentile, a wonderful countryside house.

Travel tips

  • Be prepared for how old the building is. My husband did not listen when I said it was an 18th century building and was shocked at how old it was. But once we settled in we really enjoyed it!

September 2014 - We really did enjoy our time at Villa Gentile.

It was just as it was described on line - clean, very spacious, comfortable, but very basic. Would be great for a family. Lovely location, absolutely amazing views, very rustic and gives you a taste of Tuscany as it would have been many years ago and still is today.

The owners, Alberto and Beatrice, were extremely nice and very helpful. On our arrival they even shared some of their lovely red wine and olive oil that they produce.

Fantastic service from Summer In Italy!! You were all very quick to respond. Very helpful at all times, very well informed about Villa Gentile. We would certainly recommend you to our friends. Thanks!!

Travel tips

  • We used Villa Gentile as our base and visited different places that were not too far to drive like Florence, Pisa, Lucca and Siena.
  • Owners advised us of various restaurants and sights.

We all absolutely loved our stay... 8 of us came and everyone left saying the same thing.

Alberto and his wife [the owners] are possibly the most helpful people I've ever met. August 2014 - We were 2 families, all adults, staying at Villa Gentile for the second time (the first time was in 2008). We enjoyed it very much!

Villa Gentile has a great view. It is placed on the top of a hill so you can see all the vineyards and olive trees in the area. Also the sunset is very beautiful.

Inside the villa there is a lot of living space and the beds were fine. The swimming pool was nice and clean.

There are no other people around so you have a lot of privacy in the garden. I loved eating in the garden and sitting there in the evenings, it is so quite...

The owners are very friendly and helpful.

Don't change a thing.

Travel tips

  • A big recommendation is mosquito spray or something similar. In the local supermarket they have anti-mosquito products.

May 2014 - Villa Gentile was exactly what we were looking for in every way.

The property is perfect just the way it is. A bit rustic, with amazing charm and history.

The entire property is so quiet and peaceful. The views of the countryside are beautiful from the property.

The owner, Alberto, was amazing. We learned so much about the area from him, and all about the olives and grapes that he grows. He, his wife, his little daughter, and his mother were delightful. We really appreciated how helpful and engaging the owners were. Ciao, Alberto!

We are already recommending it to our friends.

The website was excellent, giving us all the information we needed to make our decision. The rental process was easy, and the directions were great. Great value!

Travel tips

  • The location is perfect for day trips to all of the sites in Tuscany.
  • Just 5-7 minutes to a large Coop supermarket and the center of town.

October 2013 - This is not a five star property. BUT, the owners make you feel like you are five star. Alberto and his family are always willing to help out any way they can.

We arrived the day of the massive flooding which complicated water usage. Not the property owners fault, but it became an issue that he tried to deal with as best he could.

The property is truly Tuscan. Our farmhouse was no different than the owners home. All rooms were rooms with a view.

North Americans may not appreciate the "rustic" charm of the property. But they should. It was definitely a great value for the cost paid.

Villa Gentile is close enough to San Casciano so you are able to make a quick trip in for food/groceries but far enough away so you really feel you are in the Tuscan countryside.

We would recommend this property to all families. We have already recommended this property to a co-worker who is planning on visiting Tuscany in the near future.

Summer in Italy did a great job keeping us informed and communicating clearly with updates and information, great job.

October 2013 - We have no previous experience of staying in a self catering holiday home in Italy but our holiday at Villa Gentile must rank as one of the finest that we have experienced travelling in many countries of the world.

Above all else, the hospitality and welcome that we received from the owners, Alberto & Beatrice, was without parallel. Although busy with the grape harvest, Alberto went out of his way to make us feel at home, to explain the complexities of making his Chianti Classico wine, which we sampled in good measure, and to advise us on the many interesting and out of the way places to visit in the Chianti region.

The villa itself is the genuine article, an old rambling farm house with many historic features, but with all modern conveniences as well, such as fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, etc. The swimming pool is also a real luxury though perhaps we were a little too late in the season to fully appreciate it.

As for location, the villa, just on the outskirts of San Casciano VP, is very well placed. The town, although not generally on the tourist track (a distinct advantage), has many interesting and historic features, as well as an excellent supermarket and many very good restaurants. But the one great advantage of the villa, to anyone interested in the birthplace of the renaissance, is the proximity to Florence, just 15 km distant and an easy bus ride to the centre of the city.

Travel tips

  • Take the bus into Florence. It costs just 3 Euro each way and takes you right to the centre of the city.
  • If you do take a car, then you can often find parking at the Piazzale Michelangelo. It's free, offers the finest view of Florence and is just a 15 minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio.
  • The Tourist Information office in San Casciano is most helpful if a bit disorganised.
  • Take time to enjoy the exquisite scenery of the Tuscany countryside and the many hilltop villages. Day trips to Greve in Chianti, Montefioralle, Certaldo Alto, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, Montalcino and, of course, Siena are all to be recommended.

May 2012 - We enjoyed our stay in Villa Gentile very much.

It is a renovated farmhouse with lots of space, so large enough to stay with six people. We felt at home right from the start.

The view from the house and the garden is stunning. Outside you are in the middle of a vineyard and olive trees with a view on the valley.

The owners are very very kind, helpful and do speak English. They live in a separate house nearby on the same property but out of view when inside the house or in the garden.

The house is located in the middle of Tuscany and a few minutes drive from the highway, so all the main cities and villages of interest are on a very acceptable driving distance.

Although the style of the house itself is simple farmhouse style, the house is fully equipped with everything you need: dishwasher, barbecue, washing machine, lots of pots and pans in the kitchen. The ceilings are high which give the house a spacey atmosphere.

June 2011 - The owner Alberto and his family went out of their way to make us feel welcome, including bringing us their own wine and olive oil. The villa is in the middle of the beautiful Tuscan countryside, 10 miles form Firenze.

We found Firenze in June to be overcrowded with tourists so spent most of our time at the villa, making sumptuous meals with lovely local produce, and lounging by the pool, which suited us fine but may not satisfy everyone. The house is ancient and charming, although some of the furniture was a bit cheap and cheerful. All together an idyllic holiday. Thanks!

June 2011 - We just loved Villa Gentile and felt like it was our home away from home for the three and half weeks we stayed. It was large and roomy and gave us plenty of space.

We loved Alberto and Beatrice [the owners] who made us feel very welcome. We would highly recommend it to anyone, it is not four star but everything and more I had expected in a farmhouse stay.

Summer in Italy has once again come up with an excellent accommodation. Thank you.

May 2011 - We all (including the dogs) enjoyed Villa Gentile very much, particularly the garden and swimming pool.

The place is so calm and peaceful, and the view just beautiful - a wonderful resting place for body and mind, where one can quietly digest the wonders of Florence and relax from the turmoil of its crowded streets.

The owners, Alberto and Beatrice are very, very nice and helpful and we loved their wine.

Your Internet site is very clear and helpful. All your agents are excellent: polite, prompt and extremely helpful. I have already recommended you to a number of friends.

Travel tips

  • One advice concerning how to reach the villa: do not to rely on the GPS, but rather drive according to instructions provided by Summer In Italy as to the last part of the way (leading to the unpaved road). We had GPS in both our cars. Driving according to the GPS coordinates left me in the middle of an empty field. In the following days, when we were familiar with the way, both our GPS devices told us to go left instead of right on the junction leading to the unpaved road.

September 2010 - We really enjoyed our stay. We had everything we needed. Alberto and his family were very kind and helpful. We wanted a place where we could enjoy peace and had a good view, and that's exactly what we had. It was much better than we expected. The pool was an extra bonus.

All the places of interest are really very close. Special surprise for us was the place San Casciano. It is only a mile away from the villa and has everything: good restaurants, great shop (Coop), people are very friendly. Not only in the place but everywhere we went.

Perfect.

I was very satisfied. Everything was as you had promised, even better. Thanks.

Travel tips

  • Navigation is not of great help. If you can't find the villa, phone Alberto.
  • Spend more time in the villa. Having breakfast and late dinners in the garden was a marvellous experience.

July 2010 - Peaceful, beautiful, relaxing, perfect location. We had a wonderful 2 weeks there!

The villa and outside/pool were just wonderful. It was a great experience to stay in Alberto's "second home", which he allowed us to use for 2 weeks. No rules and regulations, just "enjoy yourselves", which we did!

Enjoyed watching the birds, bats and fire-flies.

Thank you for your attentions during our booking. You were efficient, pleasant and really a great company to deal with. We would certainly book our next villa with you. We thought the price paid was very reasonable, and in keeping with the villa, location and facilities. Thank you!

Travel tips

  • We used the local Coop regularly and ate in at the villa almost every night, sitting in the basement where it was lovely and cool, with great view.
  • Take plenty of bug spray for sitting outdoors!!
  • Alberto was fab! He guided us in to the villa initially down the rough road, gave us his wine and olive oil, and told us about a fantastic festival in a nearby village which we visited one evening.
  • The scenery is beautiful in the Chianti region. We visited Florence, Siena, Pisa, Lucca, rested and relaxed!

May 2010 - We really enjoyed our time at Villa Gentile, in fact it was much better than we had expected -- a highlight of our trip.

The owners are a delightful couple who we would like to get to know better. We recommend Alberto's wine and olive oil.

The pool was a godsend and the lizards, swallows, cuckoos and fireflies a delight for us kiwis.

Would love to go back.

Keep doing what you are doing. We really appreciated your newsletters prior to our trip. One thing - can you explain the pedestrian crossing rules in Italy? Seemed to us you were taking your life in your hands every time you wanted to cross!!

Ah ah :-) Crossing the street in Italy at times might resemble and old far west duel: it's your life or the driver's :-) The trick is to put just one foot out of the edge of the platform (be ready to take it back!) and try to make eye contact with one of the passing drivers, looking for a sign of acknowledgement. Don't be afraid to stretch out your hand if you want to be extra sure that you have been noticed. Try to use the pedestrian crossings whenever it's possible, but do take the exact same caution as if the crossing was not there. Even at a crossing, don't expect people to stop just because you are standing on the edge of the platform, you have to impose your will on them -- remember how Mr. Crocodile Dundee used to do it to animals? :-)

Travel tips

  • Only advice would be to buy a pair of tongs for cooking and get Alberto to clearly explain how the plumbing and heating in the bathrooms work - we never could work out how to run a bath.
  • Nearby COOP offers a wide range of foods, the Restaurant Cinque di Vino was a delight.
  • You obviously need a vehicle to enjoy the surrounding countryside.
  • Go easy on electricity use.
  • Cannot speak too highly of this villa, we all loved it!

September 2009 - The villa was absolutely beautiful, much more than we could aspect from looking at the photos. It's really big and spacious but, of course, what we enjoyed the most was the garden with the swimming pool and great views.

The silence and peace that we enjoyed sitting outside in the evenings were unbelievable, no cars, no motorcycles, no noise at all... just yells of roosters and pheasants... one night we even saw wild pigs passing right along our garden. Amazing.

You are doing great job. We were very satisfied with your service. Very good agency!

May 2009 - We loved the Villa and it's owners; Beatrice and Alberto. They make your stay so much better! They welcomed us with a bottle of wine from their own grapes and their own olive oil.

The Villa is very comfortable and has generous size rooms. We stayed there with three couples and we all had lots of space to sit and read or chat since there were two living areas. The garden with view is great. We did not use the pool; it was too cold.

The only negative thing was the road to the villa; unpaved with lots of big potholes and olive branches scratching your car.

It was hard to find it but directions in Italy were not clear anywhere we went.

We've been very happy with the whole experience and would book again with you.

Travel tips

October 2007 - Villa Gentile was just what we were looking for for a taste of what Italy is really all about. It exceeded all of our expectations in every way.

We had a great time and only regret that we didn't get to spend enough time at the Villa itself as were taking little day trips to other areas from there. We hope to return someday and just spend our time at the Villa enjoying the country side, wineries, nearby village and Florence.

Alberto and Beatrice were exceptional hosts and made us feel very much at home. They graciously and willingly answered all of our many questions. :)

We found the villa itself to be comfortable and accommodating to all of our needs. It's rustic charm was just what we were looking for!

We would not hesitate to recommend it to prospective visitors.

We couldn't have asked for a better booking agent and would not hesitate to recommend Summer In Italy to other prospective travellers in the future. You were recommended to us by a work associate and your immediate response and willingness to answer all our questions timely made you our number one choice. We left the US feeling confident that we would be pleased with our accommodations when we arrived -- and we were!!! :) :)

Travel tips

  • We took day trips to Florence (good restaurant there -- Circo & Sons), Siena, Cortona, Pisa and the Cinque Terre -- I would not recommend that as a day trip though. :)

July 2007 - Villa Gentile is a true gem in terms of view, location and atmosphere.

Really friendly owners, excellent olive oil and house wine, and the property is truly authentic.

Some mosquitoes this year, probably due to an exceptionally warm winter.

I would especially recommend Villa Gentile to families with kids: two bathrooms, good space, nice pool and very peaceful and quiet (no traffic and a large garden).

I actually think this property was a bit "undersold" on the website. The pictures do not do the villa justice. Good info and follow-up from Summer in Italy.

What a change for the industry of tourism! When was the last time that you found out that reality was better than pictures? :-) You are so right, it's hard indeed to capture the beauty of the place in our "naive", unstaged pictures -- but then isn't it nice to be pleasantly surprised upon arrival? :-) Cheers!
