Perfect place to relax!

May 2023 - We originally booked our trip to Villa Dolce in Positano in May 2020 but had to postpone because of the pandemic. Three years later (and three years older I should add) we finally got to go. Firstly, Summer In Italy and Luca especially were brilliant about allowing us to rearrange our trip. They gave us 3 years to reschedule which was really appreciated.

Now then, you’ll see from other reviews that there are a lot of steps up to the apartment, approximately 80 stairway steps, but be prepared (pack light!) and don’t be put off, they get a little bit easier as time goes on (and think of the workout for those glutes!). Just take them slowly and you’ll soon be tripping up those steps like a mountain goat.

The apartment itself honestly has everything you might need, and it really is the perfect place to relax. Clean, comfortable and well equipped. The standout thing is the view which is just breathtaking. Sitting on the terrace every evening with a glass of wine and some cheese, watching the view change was one of the highlights of our trip.

We were there for Napoli winning the Serie A (and missed the Giro d'Italia by just a few hours sadly), but getting to witness such occasions from this vantage point was brilliant. We were lucky enough to get chatting with the elderly neighbour as he tended to his vegetables every day and being greeted with a ‘ciao!’ every morning, or a ‘buon appetito’ as we tucked into some cheese and wine of an evening was delightful. He even took to waving out of the window at us as we set out every day, which was really sweet.

Mr Antonio (one of the apartment managers) who was there to meet us for check in and check out was so friendly and helpful (he carried our suitcases when we arrived, phew!) and the whole experience with Summer In Italy was excellent. We had a brilliant stay, thank you.

Summer In Italy, and Luca especially were excellent. Thank you to Luca who kept us informed for the last three years since we first booked pre-pandemic!

Travel tips

  • Villa Dolce is located right by the SITA bus stop so is perfectly situated to go on daily adventures.
  • There is a bar (Bar Internazionale), and a grocery shop just a stone’s throw away which has a very friendly shopkeeper, and stocks literally everything!
  • Bar Internazionale serves pastries, pizza and sandwiches, and it’s the perfect place to have a glass of limoncello of an evening before heading back to the apartment (to loosen up those knees for the climb!).
  • In terms of day trips, everything is accessible either by bus or boat, and if you get to Amalfi it’s the perfect jump off point to visit lots of smaller towns.
  • The buses get very busy so be prepared and be patient. You get bus tickets from the tobacconist just by the bus stop and you can get a Positano ticket to get to and from the town, or a day pass for around €10 which allows you to hop on and hop off buses all along the Amalfi Coast. What a bargain!
  • Don’t miss Ravello which is beautiful.
  • One last thing, we booked our airport transfers with Leonardo Travels (Sorrento Cars) who were just the best. They even rang Mr Antonio for us to make sure we got dropped off at the right place, and coming home Ugo rang just to check we got back safely. Brilliant customer service.

You cannot beat the views and the location

October 2022 - The villa was everything we expected, including the stairs up to the apt. You cannot beat the views and the location. Walking down to the ferries and doing day trips was a breeze. The bus stop was right out our door and a grocery store, a convenient store, and expresso bar were very close by.

Antonio [the caretaker] was the perfect host, whatever my wife and I needed he responded immediately and honored our requests.

August 2022 - We loved the view and privacy the balcony had to offer; it made the climb well worth it!

The property manager was helpful and provided us with restaurant recommendations, allowed us to check in early, and met with us the night before we left to return the deposit since we had an early morning departure on our last day.

We would absolutely stay here again!

The staff at Summer In Italy was extremely helpful leading up to the trip by answering any questions we had, assisting with altering our check in and out times, and offering recommendations for transfer services. Summer In Italy is a phenomenal service and everyone on the staff is beyond helpful with every question we had. They made us more confident in the place we selected and the newsletter was extremely helpful in terms of figuring out what to expect when in Italy.

Travel tips

  • The nearby Bar is a great stop for breakfast and lunch, or a quick slice if you are out of dinner options because other places closed. There are also a few nearby restaurants and stores for other options.
  • When you leave in the morning, if you plan to go down to the beach, be sure to take what you need with you because you most likely will NOT want to make the trek back up to your villa more than once a day.

Would note that there is a long flight of stairs to reach the house, and to keep it in mind if you have large luggage.

Future guests, if you ever wondered whether there is an alternative at carrying your luggage up the stairs of Positano, the answer is a definite yes. The Positano Porters are there just for that: they move baggage and other heavy loads to (and from!) villas and apartments in Positano, for a fee! Good option for people wanting to spend some time in Positano

May 2019 - Villa Dolce is a good option for people wanting to spend some time in Positano. The house is comfortable with most modern conveniences. The terrace is the jewel of the property with spectacular views of Positano and the sea.

The caretaker is a delightful gentleman with excellent English speaking capabilities.

This is our second time using Summer In Italy and we are very happy with the information and service they provide. We will definitely use them again the next time we plan a vacation in Italy.

Travel tips

  • The first tip I would give people is driving in Positano can be difficult due to the narrow winding and hilly roads and traffic congestion.
  • Parking along the road is impossible. Don't waste your time. Drive to a parking facility and let them know where you are staying. They will take you to your address and then you can call them when you want your car and they will deliver it to you.
  • Be aware that the house is approximately 80 steps up from street level. It is a good workout, especially with luggage. It is worth it for the views.

Absolutely loved the place!

May 2019 - Absolutely loved the place! Breathtaking views of Positano.

Davide [the caretaker] is a very hospitable person, who has gone through life's journeys to get to where he is.

The place may not have all the modern amenities... but that is what added to it's charm. It has what you need. I felt like I was fortunate enough to be invited to stay in someone's home. Thank you Davide!

Your communication was great prior to arriving. Thank you!

Travel tips

  • Be prepared to walk up the approximately 80 stairs to get there, so don't pack heavy like we did.
  • Just be prepared to walk up and down a lot of stairs throughout Positano, but there is no way around it.
  • We decided to rent a Vespa scooter one day (if you're licensed), and that was probably our funnest day. Rode it to Amalfi and enjoyed the views and participated in the crazy driving on the coast.
  • Your reference point will always be BAR Internazionale if you ever decide to fetch a taxi or the bus.
  • Take Davide's advice on restaurants, especially Restaurant Saraceno D'Oro, our favorite restaurant in Positano.
  • Make sure the weather is nice if you plan to visit.

The perfect romantic getaway!

October 2017 - The perfect romantic getaway! Villa Dolce is in a good location, away from the tourist crowd but with everything we needed just steps away, such as restaurants and groceries. The view is absolutely stunning. We never wanted to leave Villa Dolce!

Davide [the caretaker] is lovely and took very good care of us, making sure we had everything we needed. He offered helpful tips for getting around and best places to eat and shop.

Summer In Italy provides the finest and friendliest self catering holiday service we’ve ever had. Communication was superb and we were provided with comprehensive information before our trip so nothing was left to chance. We would definitely book with Summer In Italy again!

Travel tips

  • The property is at the top of the village so don’t try to walk your luggage up, catch the bus.

Enjoyed our stay very much

July 2017 - Villa Dolce is an amazing holiday place and we enjoyed our stay there very much.

I have to mention in particular Davide [the caretaker] who could not do enough for us to make sure that our stay was as good as possible. He is very warm, friendly and hospitable and we enjoyed his company very much.

We booked through Summer In Italy after reading a review by travelers and we were not disappointed. The service of the company was incredible. Very quick and informative response to any question, could not asked for better service and will recommend the company to my friends.

Travel tips

Fantastic

October 2015 - My wife and I stayed at Villa Dolce for a few days in October and loved it. The view out over Positano was amazing and the villa was comfortable and nice.

The location is up above the main part of downtown so it is a little quieter. It was very close to the main SITA bus stop going through town so you could easily catch the bus to other parts of the Amalfi Coast. The bus stop for the local bus that could take you to down town and back was also very close. The only down side were the stairs leading up to the villa. Although it took quite a few stairs to get around town this is similar for every property in the area. We walked everywhere we went in Positano and used the stairs as a way to justify eating more at dinner and having more gelato.

I would recommend Villa Dolce to any couple who are looking for a comfortable place to stay with a great view.

Julie [the caretaker] who met us to check in and out was very helpful and friendly.

Summer In Italy level of help and support in answering my questions was great. It made me more comfortable to book a location with you feeling like you would be there if anything went wrong.

Travel tips

  • We stopped in Bar Internazionale close to the villa many times for a quick cappuccino and morning pastry, oh yeah and a gelato.
  • There was also a small fruit and vegetable shop close by that we got great fruit from.
  • We really enjoyed our cooking class at Mamma Agata in Ravello and our visit to Paestum and the Greek ruins.

Good

June 2015 - My husband and I loved the outdoor terrace and the view from Villa Dolce (now if they could move the power line it would be even more spectacular). The location was ideal as it is a mere 80 steps from street level and close to Bar Internazionale, which is great for coffee, cornetti, and cocktails. The bed was fairly comfortable.

One day we walked down to the beach - a lots of steps - and then back up to the apartment. It's easy enough to jump on the bus - interno Positano line - the trip from the beach is about 7 min. In terms of peace and quiet, it was such a pleasure to listen to the sounds of Positano at night from the terrace, overall very relaxing.

Travel tips

  • Bar Internazionale is good for coffee and breakfast.
  • Use the local bus interno Positano to get from the beach to Villa Dolce.

July 2014 - We just returned from a week at Villa Dolce and like its name, it was sweet!!! The villa was spotless. The bathroom was a good size for Europe and the shower enormous! The views from the patio were spectacular! We sat on the patio at morning and at dusk enjoying the sites. The killer was the 80 steps to the apartment!

We began the experience with the emails from Luca preparing us for our trip. Once we arrived in Positano, Julie and her daughter [the caretakers] met us to let us in the house and give us the keys. Julie is British and of course, speaks perfect English. She and her daughter were charming!

Davide, the neighbor below, is such a kind, wonderful older gentleman. He speaks limited English, but is such a sweetheart. We became friends with him. He brought us fruit from his garden. It was great!

You will definitely enjoy your visit at Villa Dolce. I would go back in a heartbeat!

It was a great experience with Summer In Italy and we would definitely rent from them again.

Travel tips

  • Do some cardio exercises before you go! There are stairs EVERYWHERE in Positano!
  • The location was great! It was not in the city, but there were two local buses that ran frequently if you were not up to the stairs.
  • Julie [the caretaker] will let you know about everything once you arrive.
  • The Bar Internazionale has a little bit of everything and there is a grocery store right next to it for whatever you might need.
  • Just enjoy visiting Positano and the people! We made some wonderful new friends.
  • Oh, be sure to take the little free boat over to the less crowded beach with the big Australian flag. We enjoyed that more than the larger beach and the chairs were cheaper to rent.
  • Take a trip over to the Isle of Capri. That is a must!
  • Visit Praiano, the city next door. There is a great restaurant next to the BIG church in the center of Praiano.
  • Lastly, eat gelato!! Lots of it!!!

Fantastic

July 2013 - We stayed two weeks at Villa Dolce in Positano after two weeks at another rental in Praiano. Villa Dolce was smaller but is a wonderful place to stay.

The kitchen and bathroom are very nicely functional, the bedroom is small but nice, and the living room and dining room are also nice.

The star of the property is the terrace, though, where the views are spectacular, the morning sun is warm but easily dealt with using the umbrella, and the afternoon shade is just wonderful. We ate dinner and/or had wine out there every evening. The view is beyond amazing.

The location was perfect for us, in a part of Positano that is mostly locals and longer term tourists, whereas the lower area near the beaches is over-run with hotels, shops, and tourists. I can't complain - we're obviously tourists ourselves - but you like to get a bit of a feel for the Italian part of Italy too, not only the tourist attractions. The Bar Internazionale and the Trattoria next door were regular stops for espresso, gelato, and the Trattoria for dinner. A grocery store, fruit stand, and meat/fish place were quite close by as well, within easy walking distance. And the local hangout was the wall where the scooters were parked across the road, so this area was a fun place to hang out in the evenings...

You have to do a lot of walking on a lot of stairways if you stay up in this part of Positano, but there's a bus that will bring you up from the beach area and drop you right at the foot of the last stairway to Villa Dolce if you don't feel like walking back up at the end of the day. It would be tough for anyone with a handicap or who's really in poor physical condition, but most people should do fine with the 90 or so steps you HAVE TO walk to get to the property from the main road.

Summer in Italy couldn't have been easier to deal with, all via the web and email. We never talked to anyone over the phone directly but easily arranged a month in Praiano and Positano in two different rentals, and it all came off seamlessly!

Travel tips

  • Be prepared to do some walking.
  • The next door neighbor, Davide, has a wonderful garden right below the terrace, and he'll often pop his head up (when he's on a ladder tending to his vine plants) and you'll almost certainly get to know him. He's a wonderful guy, who's in his late '70s, has lived in Positano his whole life, and has many stories to tell. And if you're lucky he may give you a handful of his wonderful tomatoes, cucumbers, and other bounty from the garden.

July 2013 - I really enjoyed my stay at Villa Dolce. The photos are true to the way it is.

The balcony is lovely. We spent many hours relaxing there. The apartment is functional, by no means luxurious. However it has all necessary amenities. It was spacious and very Italian. There is a garden below belonging to another house and the owner, David, loves to have a chat and provide you with produce such as cucumbers and basil...

The 80 steps from the main road is hard work, but to put it context, to walk down to the beach, it is 1000 steps unless you take a bus!

Villa Dolce is not free standing. There is accommodation above and below but separate access.

Travel tips

  • This is probably not suitable for young children with the balcony being very accessible.
  • It is a climb to the villa and you have to do it. So carting luggage is not for the faint hearted. It is good in that it is close to the SITA bus stop in Positano which can take you to Amalfi, Sorrento etc.
  • We loved the Bar Internazionale nearby which had most things you need. There is also an alimentari for most groceries, and a fruit and veg store too.
  • There are restaurants close by and they are all good! We enjoyed - Amalfi, ferry trips, Path of the Gods.
  • Take rubber shoes for the beach.

September 2012 - Villa Dolce was amazing.

Spent 2 weeks there giving us the perfect mix of relaxing on the terrace, sightseeing and walks up the mountain.

Being high up the views from the terrace were superb, the sea, the hills and the road down below, watching the traffic was very entertaining!

House very comfortable with everything you could need, well stocked kitchen (we enjoy Italian cooking).

Booked with Summer in Italy because I liked the website, it was easy to navigate and gave all the necessary information. After booking staff were very helpful and good at keeping you informed.

July 2012 - I LOVED VILLA DOLCE!!

The view was spectacular. In fact, I had difficulty leaving the terrace to go to bed at night. I just didn't want to stop looking at the gorgeous view.

I have to tell you that meeting Davide and his wife who lived next door to Villa Dolce, and talking to him while he tended his garden was one of the best parts of my stay in Positano. One night when I was putting the recycling out, the wind shut the terrace door, leaving me locked out. I rang the bell at Davide's door. He and his wife invited me to their home and later, he climbed over the wall to my terrace and opened the door. He had a key but it wouldn't work because I had left my key in the lock! They are wonderful people and their willingness to help me warmed my heart.

The kitchen was equipped with everything I needed.

Travel tips

  • Make sure to take your key with you when you step out the door to put recycling out!!
  • To learn about Positano, ride the Interno bus all around the whole route the first time. It only takes about 30 minutes. Then ride it again and get off where you want to. That 30 minute ride gave me a great perspective of the area and the views were spectacular.
  • I highly recommend taking a boat ride along the Amalfi coast and also a bus ride along the coast. Those two events give different perspectives. Both are exciting and the views are spectacular.

June 2012 - We absolutely loved our stay at Villa Dolce. The view was almost magical, especially at night.

The local bus dropped us off and picked us up at the bottom of the stairs which was so convenient when we went out to restaurants.

There was nothing that we needed (except an ironing board which would have been handy).

If we return to Positano we would want to stay in Villa Dolce again. Thanks so much.

September 2011 - Villa Dolce was a beautiful place to stay.

The view was a killer view and the villa itself was very accommodating to our needs. Even the steps to the villa were not that bad. We came and went two and three times a day. The end of the week was much easier than the beginning of the week to climb 80 steps.

Travel tips

  • The Bar Internazionale was a great place to go and have a coffee or a cocktail and get a pastry or a slice of pizza to eat there or to take back to the villa. It was great to sit outside and people watch.
  • Do a boat trip along the Amalfi coast with lunch at a restaurant that you can only get to with a boat. The boat stopped at several places where we could swim. A beautiful day from 11:00 am to 5:30 pm. Get you tickets the day before down on the beach, the blue and white striped cabana. L'Uomo e il Mare phone +39 089 811 613.
  • For a good meal at a good price go back up to the right across from the Hostel building. Very good fish and pasta, sorry I can't remember the name.

August 2011 - We had a great time at Villa Dolce and I would highly recommend to others to book this villa.

A few things that we didn't know going in that actually made our stay more enjoyable -- the location is absolutely perfect! Perfect in that you are high enough up the mountain to enjoy a fantastic view and have less expensive markets/restaurants on your street. But also conveniently located so that both the Positano bus (just makes a loop through the town) and the SITA bus (goes to the other towns on the coast) are just a few feet away. Being so close to Bar Internazionale made it really easy. Although you are a bit higher, it really is easy to get around -- we walked down the steps every day into town (takes about 10-15 minutes) and then took the internal bus back up (takes 5 minutes, comes every 20 minutes or so, costs 1.5 euro).

Location aside, the villa is really nicely outfitted and it is so wonderful to have space to spread out, cook, and relax.

Congratulations to the owners for how they organized and decorated the house... I liked everything!

Travel tips

June 2011 - We loved Villa Dolce and hope to return in the future. The view of Positano and the surrounding mountains and sea from the terrace is magnificent (even if the roof of the nearest house is not the prettiest). The terrace is lovely and big and we sat the table under the bougainvillea for hours every day. The interior of the house is also lovely, with attractive furnishings and every convenience, crockery, kitchen implements and so on that we needed.

Another thing we loved was that the area around Villa Dolce is not really touristy as the centre of Positano is. Local people sit and chat outside the Bar Internazionale at the corner, the people working at the grocery shop next door to it, the Alimentari dei Coloniali, are really friendly and had every food and drink we wanted, and at the same time, as the main bus stop for upper Positano is at the corner too, there's a lively bustle in the area which means that visitors like us could blend in easily. The traffic at that corner can be noisy but intrudes very little up at the terrace of the house, which is five minutes walk away; and away from the few main roads, pedestrian peace and quiet reigns.

Positano is a wonderful town, full of character and amazing views, down the little alleyways and stairways that run up and down the hills, and across at the cascading houses on the terraces and mountainsides. Of course, you need strong legs to enjoy the place to the full, but most reasonably fit people could manage the 80 steps up to Villa Dolce from the road, and the various other steps to get to restaurants, beaches etc. The local bus was well worth taking too, once we'd figured out its route.

So we recommend Positano and Villa Dolce without hesitation!

Travel tips

  • For food and drink, the shops and the bar on the corner provide almost everything you need to buy, and the owner of the grocery will offer to send someone with you to carry heavy supplies of water/wine or other goods to your accommodation (for which a small tip is not asked but is presumably appreciated).
  • Two restaurants we found with great outdoor views and good food (and we're hard to please on food) were Ristorante Gabrisa on Viale Pasitea, looking across at the Fornillo side of town, and a mere few hundred steps in total from Villa Dolce, and Ristorante Il Capitano further down Viale Pasitea, with a large terrace overlooking the sea right at the tip of the headland dividing Positano. Could take the local bus down to both, I think, and back the long way around, but we went on foot, and counted 424 steps back up from Il Capitano, which helped to deal with some of the calories!
  • We also really enjoyed the pizzeria near the hostel on Via Marconi, only 10 minutes walk and no extra steps from Villa Dolce - very friendly, good views, great pizza and cheap prices.
  • Best activity in Positano is just looking at the amazing views from many different vantage points, including the terrace of Villa Dolce, and of course, there are umpteen clothes shops - some of which looked very tempting if a bit expensive - in the centre for those who like that kind of thing.
  • The main beach, Spiaggia Grande, was crowded and is surrounded by very touristy cafes, but a ten minute walk along a lovely coastal path takes you to Spiaggia Fornillo, which is smaller and more low-key, but still has a few good cafes, plus sunloungers etc.
  • Renting a small boat from the main beach was the highlight of the holiday for our seventeen year old son, and the views of the coast in all directions are spectacular.
  • Public transport in all directions, both buses and boats, is very good, though you need to be at the bus stop in time and expect crowds of fellow passengers in summer. It's also a great way to hear Italian being spoken - at great length and with much passion - by local people.
  • We didn't linger in Amalfi when we took a boat trip there, but went on a bus up the steep hills to Ravello, which is a lovely town with a beautiful piazza in the centre. The place is dedicated to tourism as well as to its famous classical music festival but understandably so. Villa Rufolo is very pleasant with some great views, but we didn't have time for Villa Cimbrone, which sounds out of this world. We did a rather adventurous two hour trek back down to Amalfi, and found that the map we'd got from the tourist office was vague to say the least. But with a proper walks guidebook, there are clearly lots of wonderful tracks and signposted routes for walkers all along the coast and up in the mountains. We also noticed that the small town of Atrani next to Amalfi looked very attractive and worth a longer visit.
  • We also did a longer boat trip to Salerno, which is a way of seeing the whole dramatic coastline east of Positano. Salerno is mainly a fairly modern city - rebuilt after serious bombing in the 2nd World War - but the narrow streets and little squares of the Centro Storico looked inviting, and it has a wide tree-lined esplanade running a few kilometres by the sea.
  • All the big name places are well worth seeing: Capri (and if you're not able for the cable car up the mountain from the town of Anacapri, there's a lovely path to walk up to the same area), Sorrento, Pompeii, Vesuvius.
  • We found the city of Naples pretty depressing and gloomy - plenty of atmosphere but more seedy and grotty than exciting. Close to Positano, the other disappointment was the village of Montepertuso - the bus journey up the hill has great views, and there are nice walks around it, but the village itself had a rather rundown air, and the restaurants don't seem to have nice outdoor views.
  • Finally, even if the Amalfi Coast has been welcoming tourists for at least two thousand years, and is built up in parts, it still has any number of quiet corners and unspoilt views, and Positano is a great base from which to explore it.

June 2011 - We had a really lovely week at Villa Dolce! It was much bigger than we had expected and every need was catered for. The bed was comfortable and we loved the doors opening out onto the balcony from the bedroom.

The kitchen was well equipped and spacious and the bathroom and shower were perfect.

Sitting on the balcony early in the morning watching the sun come up over the mountain and listening to the church bells of Positano ringing out was such a lovely way to start each day.

We really didn't want to leave and would dearly love to return one day.

We found the service that Summer in Italy provided was excellent - friendly and efficient. The driver that you put us in touch with to drive us from Naples airport to Positano was very friendly and made our arrival on the Amalfi coast very special. He stayed with us until our agent arrived with the keys to the villa which was very kind of him as it was late at night.

We will definitely be using Summer in Italy again and will be recommending you highly.

Travel tips

  • We would advise walking up and down to the town and beach. We only caught the bus back once at night - much more fun climbing back up. After all - you have plenty of time!
  • The supermarket further down the hill was our favourite rather than the one near to Bar Internazionale. We shopped there a few times and found the couple who run it to be very friendly and helpful. The bacon was delicious!
  • Do use the pizzeria in Positano for takeaway. They do lasagne, cannelloni, chicken, potatoes and pizza to take out. It is the blue and white place with the balcony right near the beach. The pizzas are delicious and very reasonably priced!

We spent every meal time on the terrace soaking up the view and eating the lovely seafood purchased from the Pescheria (seafood shop) just 5 mins walk away.

The villa is in the higher part of Positano but we found this to be good as it had the most amazing view and there were plenty of reasonably priced supermarkets for us to stock up in. September 2009 - We had an amazing week in Positano and Villa Dolce was our home away from home. We were very comfortable there (including the bed!) Everything was very convenient.

The bus stop was at the foot of the 80 stairs up to the villa. A few hundred feet up the road was the Grottino Azzurro restaurant, Bar Internazionale (good for gelati and pastry as well as a drink!), fruit and veggie stand, small market with deli, and post office.

The condo itself was clean and equipped with the basics for cooking including salt, sugar and olive oil.

The manager was very friendly, helped us with our luggage, and was helpful in pointing out places in town.

At the end of the week it was difficult to close the door on our terrace over Positano.

Keep up the good work! Communication over the months and weeks preceding the rental week was excellent and very much appreciated. I hope to use your website again for another trip in the future. September 2008 - Villa Dolce is beautifully set overlooking the town of Positano on the spectacular Amalfi coast.

The view over the town, be it in the morning for breakfast on the terrace or in the evening when returned from a busy day sightseeing, watching the night set in. The apartment is ideal for two people, four maybe being a bit tight on space.

The property manager was a very nice guy and helped us with our large suitcases up the steps and back down on leaving and wouldn't take a tip.

It's very quiet but some noise from the road below can be heard. The terrace makes this apartment.

Good service, Summer in Italy. Will definitely be using you guys on my next trip to Italy. Hopefully in the not too distant future.

Travel tips

  • Decide if you want a view of the town or to be in town. The apartment is a nice walk up from the town centre. I would not recommend for those not good on their feet. There is however a good bus service down into the main town and also the bus route along the coast runs along the road which leads to the apartment.

September 2008 - We loved this apartment and the large terrace and view. Had to be the best view in Positano!

The apartment is up high, at the top of the town. There is convenient bus service, but if you are like us and like to walk, there were a lot of steps. So be warned, there is a lot of climbing. We thought it was worth it!!!

It is located in a very beautiful place with a great view over the town.

It´s a very nice place, and you were very helpful when we could't get hold of the owner when we arrived - thank you.

Travel tips

  • Don't get a taxi from the airport without booking one first - we found this guy who was great: Nino, [email protected]. Greatest ice-cream in the world at the large cafe on the beach!

March 2008 - We absolutely enjoyed our stay in Villa Dolce.

It was even better than we were expecting, and we were fortunately to have lovely neighbours just below us. The gentleman even provided us with some fresh produce from his garden.

The views are spectacular and we even lost some weight due to the 80 steps from the roadway up to the apartment. Do some training before starting your holiday.

We are considering a revisit in the near future.

We enjoyed dealing with Summer In Italy, very professional in all dealings and we have no complaints.

October 2007 - We enjoyed Positano but hadn't really expected there to be quite as many tourists as there were. Villa Dolce is not in the center of the tourist section however so was quieter than the central area.

The location in terms of closeness to bus stops was terrific - made day trips very easy and accessible. The closeness to local shops - groceries, vegetable stand and butcher were also very handy and we made great use of the kitchen facilities.

Travel tips

  • We enjoyed day trips to nearby archaeological sites including Pompei, Herculaneum and Paestum. The "Artecard" which included admission plus transportation for 3 days was a great deal.
  • After our week in Positano (end of our month in Italy) we traveled by boat to Naples to catch our flight home. It was a very relaxing way to get to Naples while seeing the beautiful Amalfi coast.

September 2007 - I really loved Villa Dolce! I enjoyed every second! So much that I didn't wanted to go home...

It's a very beautiful and charming apartment with a great big terrace and a breathtaking view on Positano and the sea. And it's tastefully furnished and very clean. There are also a hairdryer, two big bath towels, a CD-player with radio (but no TV, which was very relaxing).

If you don't mind the 80 steps (I get used to it after 3 days) it's a perfect location. The Sita-Bus that goes everywhere is nearby and the Intro-Positano-Bus is right downstairs. It's just as beautiful as in the description.

It's not very quiet (cars honk the horn very often at the Amalfi coast, motor-bikes are pretty loud, too), but you get used to it very quickly - it's Italy! People and neighbours are very friendly and invited me to their homes.

The staff from Summerinitaly, especially Luca and Andrea, are extremely professional and absolutely lovely! They helped me with everything I needed and organized wonderful things. I will come back to Villa Dolce for sure. Thank you for everything!

Travel tips

  • Try the strawberry-tiramisu-icecream from the fridge in the nearby Bar Internazionale, try a fresh fish at the restaurant next door and enjoy the live music three times a week in the restaurant Mediterraneo, go to Filippo Grassi at Fornillo beach, ask for events, concerts and street-parties in the neighborhoods at the tourist office near the big church in the city.
  • Book your course at Mamma Agata cooking school in Ravello - it's amazing!
  • The supermarket downstairs (on the main road) is much better than the supermarket next to the Bar Internazionale.
  • If you want to dance: go to the disco Music on the Rocks at the beach - and try the restaurant upstairs, it's cool!
