Loved it

September 2016 - We loved it. Perfect for what we wanted.

Well done, I will be using Summer In Italy in the future!

Travel tips

  • If you are early-to-bed person and need silence to sleep this place may not be for you. There was party-like noises coming from the hotel across the street until midnight or so most nights. [Yes, indeed -- Future guests please note that Villa Azzurra is located in the heart of Sorrento!!]

October 2012 - I have just spent 9 days at Villa Azzurra D with a friend and can only say WOW!!

The villa is perfectly situated in the heart of Sorrento, close to shops, restaurants, train and bus stops. The view from the terrace is amazing overlooking the Bay of Naples with Mt Vesuvius as the backdrop. The perfect place to watch a sunset and to wake up in the morning and have your breakfast watching the ferries come and go.

Andrea is the perfect host - friendly, helpful and provides the most amazing boat trips. He can recommend any number of great restaurants and can help you with any other tours you may wish to do.

Our apartment was Azzurra D which had everything we needed and when we opened our window and front door we had a great view of the bay. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property as THE place to stay if you are visiting the Amalfi Coast.

April 2011 - The setting of Villa Azzurra D is incomparable, with gorgeous cliffside views over the harbor. The villa itself is beautiful, with a lovely terrace, and it could not be more centrally located; close to restaurants and shops and even the Tourist Information office.

However, there were various challenges with Villa Azzurra D that made the vacation frustrating at times. I noticed when we walked in that there were candles in every room, including a taper stuck in a drinking glass on the bathroom cabinet. Sure enough, we had several episodes of the electricity going out. Though the landlord was responsive, and even quite charming, it was evident that this was a somewhat normal problem.

The kitchen was quite limited, as well, but the real kicker was a bathroom with shower unseparated from the toilet. Because the apartment is partially underground (think daylight basement), the floor never completely dried. So every time one used the toilet, shoes were a necessity because of the wet floor. The daylight basement set-up may be an asset in summer, since it would stay cool, though dampness may also cause some mustiness. It is very attractive, in spite of this.

Even with these deficits, we might consider returning, just for the setting, but flexibility and sense of humor are musts for anyone staying here.

Travel tips

  • One of the real advantages of Sorrento and the location of this villa in particular is that they're well placed to catch the ferry to Capri and Amalfi. We strongly advise taking the ferry or train whenever possible, since buses can be crowded and the wait for even standing space can be more than an hour.
  • Capri is probably our favorite day trip of the vacation, though we really enjoyed traipsing around the ruins at Pompeii, as well. You can pick up a guide book and map from the vendors along the road outside the entrance. They are well worth the cost, so that you can move at your own pace.

Our host Andrea treated us like family. He was always available to answer questions, give recommendations, and to accommodate all of our needs.

We will definitely be returning.

October 2008 - We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Sorrento and our stay in Villa Azzurra greatly enhanced the experience.

Breakfast on the beautiful terrace, looking out over the Bay of Naples at Vesuvius was awe inspiring. Being right on the coast and having access to Naples and Capri and the ancient sites of Pompeii and Ercolano and also the Amalfi coast was wonderful, all were so easy to access by boat, train or bus from Villa Azzurra.

Our host, Andrea, was extremely helpful, collecting us on the first night from the train station and we will not forget the fantastic boat ride and swim in the blue waters of the bay. We also enjoyed the company of Andrea's family and friends which greatly added to the experience. We will definitely be coming back.

Both Luca and Andrea at Summer in Italy were very helpful and prompt with replies to our queries. Thank you both for all your help.

Travel tips

  • Go to Naples by boat for a more pleasant experience than by train. Great museum and churches and shopping is great value.
  • Pompeii and Ercolano highly recommended as is a trip by bus to Positano and Amalfi.
  • The owner also recommended some nice restaurants.

Unfortunately, Villa Azzurra D can not be booked at this time.

We would love to help you find a suitable alternative. Please be in touch for personal advice from our staff!
