Could not be more pleased with the stay!

September 2019 - Stayed here for 5 days and could not be more pleased with the stay!

The location is great and the apartment is much more fresh than the pics could tell. And the terrace is just fantastic, you have sun all day long. And then when the beautiful sunset comes it's just magic! :)

Would love to come back.

Perfect in every way

May 2019 - This was our 5th vacation in this excellent accommodation. Perfect in every way. Only 12 steps to enter the house! A real find for someone who has difficulty with stairs. Very peaceful and quiet at night. Close to shops, buses, and genuinely wonderful people. A much better choice than Positano or Amalfi in our opinion.

The owner takes great care of the home. He was originally born in this home so it is very important it remain in perfect condition.

Heating and AC function well when needed. Spectacular views from the patio make for a vacation dream come true.

Book a year in advance if you want your week! There are those of us who would not stay anywhere else on the coast!

We use Summer in Italy exclusively for are coastal reservations because of their continued high standards and reliability.

Lovely clean apartment, with wonderful view from terrace

September 2018 - Lovely clean apartment, with wonderful view from terrace, very peaceful, and easy check-in with gracious host.

If we ever venture back to Italy we would not hesitate in re-booking with Summer In Italy.

Travel tips

  • We spent five days visiting places like Positano, and Ravello with the Sita buses that are close to apartment, but is was the village of Praiano that charmed us, in particular the little shop that sells roast chickens. We were early one evening and while we were waiting outside the owner came out with two glasses of white wine on the house great touch.

We absolutely loved it!

September 2018 - We absolutely loved it! The place was well cleaned when we arrived. The location was terrific as we just had to walk 2 minutes to buy groceries. The neighborhood people were friendly. The view from the terrace was gorgeous and we would like be to return some day.

The property manager responded to our questions in good time and he was very courteous.

Everything was terrific with Summer In Italy. There wasn’t anything we can think of to improve at the moment.

We wouldn't stay anywhere else

June 2017 - This is our second stay at Casa Susanna and we wouldn't stay anywhere else. The house is very comfortable and equipped with everything you would need for a great vacation. The view from the huge terrace is spectacular. You can see Positano and the Isle of Capri in the distance. The apartment is so convenient, being on the main road, just steps to restaurants, markets, shops and the bus stops. There isn't any need to climb dozens of stairs when you go out. We hope to be able to return to Praiano and Casa Susanna several more times in the future.

Raffaele, the owner, is very helpful and great to deal with.

My brother recommended Summer In Italy and we haven't been disappointed. I can't imagine using any other company when looking for rental accommodation in Italy.

Travel tips

  • If you are a drinker of American coffee you would be wise to take some with you. We checked everywhere and we could find only espresso coffee. That wasn't a problem for us because we just added more water but not everyone likes their coffee that way. Also, you might want to take basket style filters. The coffee machine has a mesh filter but I think paper filters make a better cup of coffee, less grounds.

We could not have found a better accommodation

May 2017 - We could not have found a better accommodation than Casa Susanna. It was the perfect location for us. The pictures on the web site do not do justice to this place.

Casa Susanna has two large bedrooms, an average size living room and kitchen and the best of all a very large partly covered terrace. The views from the terrace are just amazing. You can see the bright blue water, the town of Positano and the famous three rocks of Capri. The terrace is equipped with lounging chairs, lunch table and chairs for four. The entire house was neat and clean, Wi-Fi is free and everything worked perfectly. We used it as our base for venturing out to the neighbouring towns. We would not hesitate even for a second to re-book it for our return to the Amalfi Coast.

The owner was very polite, helpful and gave us suggestions regarding places to visit and finally also arranged taxi for our return to Naples.

Summer In Italy: very professional, kept us informed all the time, coordinated our check-in time and also sent us tips about excursions and what to expect upon arrival. Definitely better than similar booking sites who over-charge you for everything and nothing.

Travel tips

  • It's located just 2 mins walking distance from the SITA bus-stop.
  • SITA bus tickets can be bought from the shop located right above the house at the street level.
  • There are two grocery shops and a couple of cafes within walking distances.
  • Do enjoy the fresh fruits and cheese from the grocery shops.
  • Make your own lunch or dinner at least once and enjoy the amazing views from the terrace while eating/drinking leisurely.
  • The town of Amalfi is over-rated. Do yourself a favour and stay in Praiano or Positano.
  • Buy cappuccino at the cafes, less expensive if you drink it without sitting at the table.

Very good

September 2015 - We loved our stay in Casa Susanna. The apartment was clean, air conditioned worked well, we had everything we needed and the view was outstanding. There is only one flight of stairs to reach the apartment. The location was just off the main road which could be viewed as a negative due to some road noise or a positive as it is very convenient to the bus stop, restaurants, and shops. The only negatives were some road noise and noise from someone woodworking in basement area during the day. These were minor annoyances and would not stop us from renting the unit again.

The owner was friendly and helpful. Thank you for your help and guidance with the local sights and for opening this lovely rental apartment to us.

Overall the fantastic view, comfortable and clean apartment, helpful owner, and great location made our stay memorable and enjoyable. We had a wonderful week and hope to return someday soon!

Travel tips

  • One of the highlights of our time at Casa Susanna was when we rented a small boat from Marina in Praia Beach and drove ourselves up and down the coast. We had a great time sightseeing and stopping in small coves for a swim. Pack a lunch and drinks and see the coastline at your leisure. It was great!
  • There is a small Internet shop upstairs from the apartment which was handy to buy bus tickets and to use a printer.

Travel tips

  • It's easy to have day trips to any of the towns located along the coast. We particularly liked Ravello.
  • Close to the house there is a nice restaurant, Trattoria San Gennaro, it has really good pasta!
  • There is also a pizzeria where you can order take away pizza that you can eat on the lovely terrace of Casa Susanna, when you are on a budget. :)

August 2015 - The view is just amazing and the location is impossible to beat!

The views are breathtaking... The pictures don't do it justice. The air conditioning was extremely efficient and worked beautifully. We were in Praiano during an unrelenting heat wave (the average temperatures were 95+, a few days it hit 101 and never went below 80 at night) and Casa Susanna was always comfortable.

The location is absolutely the BEST in Praiano. If you have never been to Praiano, you can't begin to imagine the stairs and climbing up steep roads you need to do. We are a young couple, in our early 50's and physically fit. Casa Susanna was easy... Also, Casa Susanna is on the main road, but very quiet. We could walk to absolutely everything, many shops and markets, church and tons of restaurants within 10 minutes.

There is absolutely nothing I can say that hasn't been said. The owner, the neighbors, everyone was fantastic. Book this place and don't waiver!! I checked other places out and this location can't be beat! We will be back... Hopefully in 2018 when I can enjoy this in the fall and in cooler weather. Can't wait to return!

Summer In Italy is the most awesome rental site I have ever dealt with, and I have dealt with a ton of them! You made this vacation so easy and the help I received from Anita, Andrea and Melanie was absolutely flawless. Always a quick response, and secured wonderful reservations when I requested them. Fantastic suggestions for restaurants too! I will never go to Italy again without you by my side! THANK YOU!

Travel tips

  • Book it!
  • The buses are very easy to use and the local buses (internal Praiano and Praiano to Positano) allow you to pay once you are on. They are smaller orange buses which get filled early. The bus leaving Marina di Praia Beach to bus stop #7 (the one across from the unit) is always filled and doesn't come often, so you need to plan accordingly if you want to ride the bus back from Marina di Praia.
  • The small bus to Positano will drop you off in the center of Positano, just stay on it and don't get off at the top of Positano. Piazza dei Mulini is where you need to exit the bus.
  • The adorable ceramics shop on the opposite side of the street from the Casa Susanna is wonderful and run by a great family that we encountered in many places that week!
  • One Fire Beach (Gavitella Beach) is NOT to be missed. 24 euro will secure you 2 chairs and an umbrella. There is food/drink service right to your chair. In high season a reservation is absolutely necessary as we saw many many people turned away. DO NOT go without securing a reservation in high season. One Fire Beach was just plain fun! Great music, dancing, singing and a wonderful host who also runs Kasai Kasai, a fantastic restaurant in Praiano. He must be one of the hardest working men in Praiano. The ultimate host at both places.
  • The Gavitella Beach was a very easy walk down the 400 stairs, and quite frankly, coming back up wasn't bad at all... Many areas to stop and catch your breath if needed. Obviously, once at the beach, you didn't leave!
  • I loved Gavitella Beach much more than Marina di Praia Beach, which is much more congested, but Marina di Praia Beach has more options for eating and also boat trips pick you up there.
  • Vivaro Wine Bar is also phenomenal! Gennaro had a broken arm when we arrived on Saturday and had to close the restaurant. He cut his cast off and was back working Sunday! Wonderful place!
  • Trattoria San Gennaro and Che Bontà were also good, especially for take out one night when it was too hot to go anywhere and we were exhausted.
  • We saw the luminary display at San Gennaro Church from the patio!
  • We especially enjoyed being in Praiano for the Feast of Saint Domenico. There were fireworks and parties most nights and food tastings in the surrounding neighborhoods... What a treat! Even though this usually meant hiking up and down 100+ stairs to the "neighborhood". It's hard to explain... It must be seen! Highly recommend it!
  • While Positano is absolutely stunning, the crowds made it stifling and the beach was packed. We enjoyed our day there but truly loved coming back to the peace and quiet of our home in Praiano.
  • Praiano is much less expensive than Amalfi and Positano and much less touristy... A more authentic experience.

October 2014 - Casa Susanna is a great property.

The interior is on the simple side, but nice just as well. Very pretty floor tiles especially with the floor lights turned on in the evenings. Two bathrooms are a nice bonus. The air conditioning units work great and we slept very well & comfortably. Great water pressure too. The hair dryer works great, it's a real one with powerful output not the weak, compact kind often found in hotel rooms. There is also a nice stereo that faces the terrace door and works great for listening to music while relaxing on terrace. You can connect to your ipod/iphone if you bring an auxiliary cord.

The terrace is huge and has beautiful views out to San Gennaro, Positano and the Faraglioni rocks of Capri. Stunning views both during the day and night. There is a small bit of street noise but not enough to be a problem at all.

The location is perfect, it is as convenient as you can ask for in all of Praiano. Near the bus stop, restaurants, markets, and both beaches are reachable by foot in 10-20 minutes or so. This apartment has very easy access from the road which is somewhat scarce in the area.

Mr Raffaele [the owner] is a very nice & gentle man. Check in and out was very smooth & efficient. I made a very last minute request for a bottle of wine and he was kindly able to deliver it. He has loads of area information available in a binder and in the desk drawers.

I highly recommend Casa Susanna and would be delighted to stay again myself. The photos are accurate though I found the property more homey in person.

Summer In Italy is excellent to work with. This was my second rental with them and I will look to them again on my next visit to Italy. You guys are great! Thank you!

Travel tips

  • We had a great meal at the nearest restaurant, Che Bontà Gastronomia. Doesn't look like much but it's very good, and inexpensive too.
  • Trattoria San Gennaro has great pizza.
  • Vivaro Wine Bar is always a good choice for a fun atmosphere, reservations suggested.
  • Restaurant Il Pirata is beautiful at dusk.
  • If you only do one day trip during your stay make it Ravello. Magical place with truly breath taking scenery.
  • Bring bug spray! They were pretty bad during our October stay.

August 2014 - Casa Susanna provided us with the best holiday base one could ever hope to have on the Amalfi Coast.

It represents a superb value for money in every respect and is so centrally located as to make the trips to Positano, Sorrento, Amalfi and Ravello an absolute breeze.

Raffaele, the owner, was just first class with his help, service and advice and we will meet him again, no doubt.

In short, we have holidayed all over the world from 7 days to a month but this was without doubt the best one ever and totally due to Casa Susanna and Summer In Italy.

Summer In Italy is a truly fabulous & professionally run business with attention to detail from start to finish of our booking/holiday. Luca & Melanie had a fantastic attitude and they responded to all questions. Everything we queried was resolved within 24 hrs if not earlier. We will utilize Summer In Italy again & again for certain.

Travel tips

  • Bring your own binoculars (preferably 16x80 strength) and tripod to observe the movements of the luxury private cruises and other marine craft from the magnificent terrace of Casa Susanna.

July 2014 - Casa Susanna was an EXCELLENT choice.

I stayed there with my two teenagers in July for one week. The house and its terrace with incredible jaw-dropping uninterrupted panoramic ocean views exceeded my expectations!! The house was super clean, attractive, comfortable, spacious and well stocked, even included a washing machine. The terrace (the biggest selling point) equipped with table/chairs and lounge chairs is very large, private, quiet, partially covered, and gorgeous! It was lovely to sit out for breakfast, dinner or during down times for resting.

The house is situated in the middle of Praiano, just below the main road. There is some street noise, that can be heard from the front of the house if the windows are open. But this was not too overly bothersome even during sleeping, it was not a big issue. While on the terrace, it is very quiet.

The house is walking distance to both of Praiano's pretty beaches, the main part of town and the market. It is very close to One Fire Beach.

The owner was very kind to us. He was very welcoming, could speak English and helpful and happy answering our questions. When we arrived, we got off at the wrong bus stop quite a ways down hill from the house. We thought that it was the only bus stop in Praiano, which was not the case. He drove down and picked us up in his car so we did not have to lug our suitcases uphill for a distance. He helped us in booking a boat tour around Capri and arranged a taxi to take us to Salerno for our departure on the train. He was very responsive if we contacted him with any questions.

During the week, we had a chance to visit most of the villages on the coast and we were very glad we picked Praiano because its beaches were not accessible from the main road making them more private. I did not want to be situated in one of the more touristy villages such as Amalfi or Positano and Praiano proved to be much more quiet and much less crowded. Praiano was a very good base on the Amalfi Coast.

Bottom line: I would rank Casa Susanna very high, I would rent the same house again and recommend it to a good friend. Yes to Casa Susanna!

I am very happy with Summer In Italy! You have a good reputation. Your website is excellent! I heard about Summer In Italy from Trip Advisor. I liked to chat online with your agents during my booking and search process. Your representatives were very knowledgeable, so friendly and very helpful during and after my booking with email etc. Thank you!! I like your section of "tips and advise for future guests", and found it helpful. I would book with Summer In Italy again for sure and would recommend it to a good friend! Thank you for assisting in making my travels go smoothly.

Travel tips

  • 1. Make sure you go to both of Praiano's lovely and clean beaches. There is the close, One Fire Beach and Marina di Praia Beach, down past the first tunnel. Both beaches have much space for free space, where you do not have to rent a chair as well as spots for rental of chairs.
  • 2. Our favorite restaurant was La Strada. Sit upstairs, outside on the terrace, great food, views and atmosphere.
  • 3. If you like to walk, the two best hikes we did were the "Walk of the Gods" starting right in Praiano all the way down to Positano's beach. Do it on a sunny day. An excellent hike. Plan for about 3 hours of hiking. Take the bus back to Praiano from Positano after a swim, and a look around of course. The other hike we absolutely loved started in Minori, take stairs and some path gorgeous views all the way up to Ravello, spend some time there, Ravello was gorgeous! Then take path and some stairs to Atrani. The path goes thorough some lemon orchards and olive groves (you see a part of Italy that the tourists on the buses never see!). Then take a dip in the ocean at Atrani, then hike back to Amalfi through the passageways. Have a bite to eat and refreshments. Bus back to Praiano. I got the book "Walking on the Amalfi Coast" Cicerone.
  • 4. Be prepared for the SITA buses if you go in the summer. So much time is wasted just waiting for the buses. They are unreliable as far as time schedules, sometimes even an hour late. Also they are way too crowded. Can be unpleasant if you are standing. I had read comments about SITA and thought people were exaggerating. It could be pretty unpleasant. This is why we took a taxi back to Salerno on our departure day.
  • 5. If you plan to go to Capri, take my advice, it is better to just take the boat tour that departs from Praiano than to waste a whole morning getting to Positano on the bus and than waiting in Positano for the boat (which was almost an hour late) to go to Capri. Avd than waiting for ever for the bus to go back to Praiano once back from Capri. Many many hours can be eaten up just waiting for the SITA. The price is about double but so worth it.
  • 6. Do NOT eat at Che Bontà, a small take out restaurant very close to Casa Susanna - all 3 of us got sick from their food.

June 2014 - We loved staying at Casa Susanna. It was a perfect vacation.

The view from the huge terrace was spectacular and we couldn't have asked for a better location.

It was so convenient to everything in town and the Sita bus stops (for day trips outside Praiano) was a few meters away as the main road is just a few steps up from the front door of Casa Susanna.

We plan to return to Praiano often and hope to be able to stay at Casa Susanna again.

The owner, Raffaele, was wonderful and very welcoming. It was easy to see that he loves his house as everything was in immaculate condition.

I loved working with Summer In Italy. My brother used your web site in the past and recommended it. I've booked twice with you and haven't been disappointed. I will always use Summer In Italy when booking trips to Italy and recommend your web site to anyone.

Very good

June 2013 - Two weeks at Casa Susanna was really not enough for us, we loved it so much.

Raffaele, the owner, was there to meet us and to explain how everything worked, leaving his phone number to contact him at any time. He also helped to arrange a boat trip to Capri that was fantastic.

We would definitely stay here again, the house was spotlessly clean, and to sit on the terrace in the afternoons with a glass of wine watching the lights of Positano come on was truly beautiful.

June 2013 - My wife and I loved Casa Susanna. It is a wonderfully comfortable home with everything you need, and a view to die for. We spent hours and hours on the terrace enjoying the beautiful sea and boats and ferries passing by.

The owner, Raffaele, is a generous and kind man who will go out of his way to help you. He shared some of his homemade wine with us and it was marvelous!

We didn't want to leave. No wonder this apartment books so far in advance... it's terrific.

Travel tips

  • Having a car is a pain as parking is very limited. You can get everywhere by bus (which can be quite an adventure) and ferry.
  • The folks in the grocery down the street were very friendly and helpful... go there to buy your wine, they sell both red and white in bulk. 5 liters won't last long!
  • Get your wi-fi connection from the store above the apartment. 20 euros for the week... it only works in the second bedroom/sitting room.

June 2013 - This is our second visit to Casa Susanna and as before our stay was perfect.

Took the train from Rome to Salerno and because of bad weather the ferry was not running but we were easily able to catch the bus to Amalfi and then the transfer to Praiano. Took a bit longer but was still easier than going to Naples and changing trains to Sorrento and then the bus to Praiano which is what we did the first trip.

I would recommend this rental to everyone. It is especially good for those with mild mobility problems as it is one of the few rentals that only has 12 steps to descend. Most every other rental in Praiano has many many more steps!!

We plan on visiting again and will definitely use this rental when we return. The internet from upstairs worked great in every room. It cost 20 Euros for the week to buy the access.

Travel tips

  • Having the market just steps away is very convenient.

May 2013 - We really enjoyed Casa Susanna. The parking, as anywhere along the Amalfi coast, is not good as the road through the village is narrow and you have to park about 10 mins walk away. But it's worth it as the villa is very clean, nicely fitted out with great, great views across the sea from a huge terrace. The village has every thing you require in the way of shops, cafes and restaurants.

No beach as only cliffs, but that's not what is so lovely about exploring along this coast line and I would say that the village is ideal (not so busy as others) and this villa and its owner made our stay very good.

Travel tips

  • If you are an experienced driver, then a car is good, but remember that Italians don't always drive on 'their' side and come up and tailgate you. Often you may have to reverse to let a coach or lorry through, with 2" between you and a 3000 ft drop!

May 2013 - Casa Susanna was excellent.

The outdoor area was amazing and really helped us to relax and enjoy the place. The indoor lounge was not ideal for 4 adults (as the sitting room turns into a bedroom for this many adults), but there was room enough for 2 on the couch in the back room and 2 to sit on dining chairs. This wasn't a big deal because you don't spend much time indoors on the Amalfi coast anyway.

The apartment was extremely comfortable and well presented and had everything available for us to have a great self-catering stay.

Travel tips

  • Bring some condiments (tea, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper) with you so that you don't have to buy all these basics in large quantities from the supermarket.
  • Use the SITA bus to get to Positano, not the small local bus as it is unreliable and doesn't run often enough.
  • Restaurant La Strada is amazing.

Fully equipped kitchen with attached comfortable living room. But the cherry on the top was the enormous outdoor terrace with the most magnificent views, where we spent all our time, including meals, when we weren't out touring.

An added bonus was only five steps down from the road to the apartment, friendly helpful supermarket only two minutes away, internet point right next to apartment, bus stops two minutes away in both directions. We couldn't have asked for more.

Did we enjoy it? It was superb!!

Travel tips

  • Learn the bus time table.
  • Don't rent a car unless you are an exceptionally good driver and have lots of patience.
  • Easily reached places to visit - obviously Positano and Amalfi... also Ravello and also Capri, which can be reached on a one hour boat ride.

October 2011 - We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Susanna the only down side was that as there were four of us in the party but only one two seater settee so not enough comfy chairs. The beds were all very comfy even though two are put you up beds, comfiest ones we have ever slept on. Views were to die for.

The local people were all so friendly and helpful and the cocktail bar became a great favourite with the staff giving us all Italian lessons.

We would highly recommend this property.

Summer In Italy is a great company to deal with. Helpful and efficient, prompt and provided what was a very personal service and we will be recommending you to our friends and families.

Travel tips

  • We would recommend hiring a car to get the full benefit of the beautiful coast as the buses are often very full.

October 2011 - Excellent apartment - better than photos depict! Everything you need to enjoy and be comfortable. Close to transportation.

Kitchen is small but if you move the table over and move the desk over to the kitchen and cover it up to protect the top you can use it as an island and make the room you need to spread out to cook a great meal.

This is a wonderful place and the owner is exceptional. You will not be disappointed with this rental. It is the best we have stayed at in the last 6 years of visiting Italy. Book - go - enjoy - stay at least 2 weeks if not more!

We were very satisfied with Summer In Italy. We will use your services again!

Travel tips

  • Go upstairs and get a password for the internet. For 30 Euro you get WiFi for a week.
  • Use the water ferry. If you are arriving from Rome go to Salerno by train and then take the water ferry to Amalfi and then the SITA bus to the apartment. It is less expensive and easier than going through Naples and taking the other train which is a cattle car for people. You then have a long bus ride from Sorrento. Save yourself the aggravation and go to Salerno. The water taxi is right across from the train station. It is very easy and fun! [You might be able to do this if you arrive in the morning, check the ferry schedule ahead of time, there are only a few journeys and it is best to make sure they fit your schedule]

August 2011 - My friends and I had an amazing time at Casa Susanna! The location was key. We all agreed the being on the main road was much better than being close to the water. We traveled all over the coast using public transport, which was literally 30 feet from our door.

One Fire beach was 400 steps below the house and was a fun place to spend the day. Also, there was a nice bit of night-life and a night club in a cave called Africana.

We loved Casa Susanna. Waking up to that view everyday was breathtaking. My only advice is to BOOK NOW!!

Travel tips

  • Go to Angela's Market 20 feet down on the right for food. Her son speaks English and gave helpful advice about the area.
  • Get your bus tickets at the shop next to the cafe on the main road before ou get on the bus. There are two different bus types one is cheaper than the other.
  • Do NOT rent a car the roads are full of blind turns and there's little parking.

June 2011 - Casa Susanna was even better than we expected.

It is a beautiful, spotlessly clean unit with a huge terrace overlooking an incredible view of the sea and Amalfi coast and is in a perfect location, situated between the touristy towns of Positano and Amalfi. We just made day trips to those towns when we wanted to do some sightseeing or shopping. However Praiano does have some very good restaurants within easy walking distance. Also a great little grocery store nearby for buying provisions.

The owners were very helpful and friendly.

I would definitely stay here again and I highly recommend it to anyone coming to the Amalfi coast.

I am very happy with all aspects of booking with Summer in Italy. Lots of info and quick response to my questions. Very professional service.

Travel tips

  • Great restaurant just down the street called Hosteria Il Pino.
  • The bus stop is very close by and this is the best way to get around the area.
  • Make sure you take a boat trip at some point. The Amalfi coast from the water is even more amazing than from land.

April 2011 - An excellent representation of the Italian Amalfitaine coast. A place to stay for one week and more. Incredible view!, Owners are available to help!. The house is like the representation on the site, Bravo! We will recommend your site to our friends.

Travel tips

  • So much to see...
  • Plan for longer than what Google itinerary is informing.
  • Buy a one-week pass for internet at the nearby Internet point, it works well.

April 2011 - Casa Susanna is an exceptional property in an amazing location. The villa owner was very helpful during our stay and we enjoyed our stay immensely.

I would recommend a stay in Casa Susanna wholeheartedly. The view from the balcony is breathtaking and we woke in joy every morning at the sight.

We are already planning our return.

Travel tips

  • There is so much to do in Praiano and the surrounding areas. We enjoyed just going around on foot and exploring. Give yourself plenty of time to walk around. March 2011 - It was the highlight of a month in Italy. The property was perfectly situated in the darling commune of Praiano - especially it had no stairs to speak of which is a miracle in the coast built on amazingly steep hillsides. The terrace was huge and the view absolutely amazing.

I slept in the little middle room, where the Italian speaking TV was, because you could see the sky, and the bedroom - which was very large - did not have a window.

It is a perfect location to see the entire Amalfi coast - the cute bus stop is a a couple minutes away - and the proprietors in town absolutely couldn't be nicer.

The owner of the property was extremely pleasant and gracious. And - Summer in Italy's people very good to work with.

You had every detail thought out - just might want to suggest to people that they read your information BEFORE leaving their home as there's requirements that are easier to do from home.

I spent literally days looking for a place on the Amalfi coast and found Summer in Italy the easiest site to navigate, and the most helpful and reliable imaginable.

Travel tips

  • I brought a days worth of cooking ingredients from Florence which is a good idea as it takes a bit to figure out where all to get groceries and you really want to just stare at the view while getting settled in.
  • If you're American, bring a little bit of good dish soap as there's is very perfumed.
  • I hired Sorrento Coast Drivers - Giuseppe - it was well worth the cost as he gives a great dialogue on the history and sites along the way. He also gives a sense of comfort that is very hard to find in general taxis. I would highly recommend him.

January 2011 - I'd like to thank the Summer in Italy Team and Senior Rafaele for a wonderful 2 weeks in Casa Susanna.

The apartment was everything we hoped for. The terrace, the coastline and the sunsets were incredible. On New Year's Eve the coastline exploded in bursts of colour and we had front row seats from the terrace.

Praiano was the ideal location and we went to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Naples, Salerno, Positano and Sorrento with no difficulty because the bus stop is basically across the road.

The Church of San Gennaro was the most welcoming and prettiest church in our travels. Don Pio and his congregation made us feel very welcome whenever we popped in. At Christmas time they have a huge Presepe (Nativity scene) behind the altar and a multitude of golden stars hanging from the ceiling. It was heavenly.

The Summer in Italy team answered all of our questions and came to the rescue when we needed to change our departure date. When we needed to have some items we forgot in Venice posted over the Summer in Italy team gave us Raffaele's address and he received our parcel and had it waiting for us on our arrival.

Everything was perfect. Thank you for helping us have a trip of a lifetime.

Travel tips

  • Praiano is the ideal location if you don't like the tourist traps and want to spend time in a quiet Italian town.
  • We went to the internet point upstairs and got a wireless password so we could email family and friends from the apartment. We also bought a 3 day travel pass which worked out much cheaper than the 24-hour tickets. You could use it for bus and rail.
  • There weren't many restaurants opened in December but we had all the fresh produce we needed a few steps away.
  • When going to Naples, Herculaneum or Pompeii we got off the bus at Meta to catch the Circumvesuviana. But on the way home we got off at Sorrento. The buses are more frequent at Sorrento so you wait less.
  • We needed a taxi to take us and our many heavy bags to Salerno train station... all we had to do was ask Raffaele who arranged a wonderful driver at a great price.

September 2010 - The terrace at Casa Susanna is amazing - the view beyond equally so.

The space in the villa was ample enough to let four women each have plenty of room, it was more than comfortable. Having two bathrooms in the suite was also an added perk. We did enjoy cooking a couple of nights and found the kitchen to be more than sufficient.

The owner is a kind and gentle person who went out of his way to insure our comfort.

We loved our stay so incredibly much! All of you at Summer in Italy were so helpful too. All of our questions or concerns were answered promptly and in a kind and friendly manner. We have recommended your services often and will continue to do so.

  • All the stores were fun to browse through but we made it part of a daily ritual to visit Angela's - what a lovely lady! And her wine, salami and cheese selections are outstanding.

August 2010 - We had a wonderful holiday at Casa Susanna. The views were breathtaking and our 17 year old daughter and her friend also really enjoyed themselves.

The only thing that made our holiday difficult was that you really have to walk down 400 steps to the beach and you are so exhausted and hot when you get back that you feel like a swim again. Other than that, the locals sell wonderful fresh produce and cold meats, the restaurants were great and the accommodation was super.

August 2009 - We fell in love with Casa Susanna the moment we walked in the door.

The location is perfect, in a quiet village, away from the tourists, but close enough for an easy day trip to Positano, Amalfi or Ravello.

The terrace is breathtaking. We could not believe the size of it and the view of Positano, especially during the sunset, made the trip!

Everything was very new, and clean. The kitchen was very well stocked so that we could cook all of the dishes we were looking forward to cooking.

We got to know the local butcher, fish monger and vegetable grocers, because of the small size of the village. The villagers are all very welcoming and the walk to the beach was beautiful and welcome (much needed) exercise!

Everything was great, we are really looking forward to booking this location again in the future. We would also use your services again for other areas of the country.

Travel tips

November 2008 - Our stay at Casa Susanna was delightful. Waking in the morning and having coffee on the terrace overlooking the magnificent sea -- how good does it get!!!!!

The apartment is furnished simply, but adequately. We loved being only a few steps from the road, and the hillside buffered the traffic noise.

Raffaele was a gracious host, rescuing us when the bus let us off at the wrong stop. The proprietor of Hotel Smeraldo called him, and he came within about 10 minutes.

October 2008 - We enjoyed our stay very much and much preferred Casa Suzanna to a hotel room. The patio and its view are wonderful and in our opinion, the villa's strongest points. The villa itself is comfortable - the furniture is a little old-fashioned - but that was fine and didn't detract from our vacation in any way.

We liked the fact that Praiano itself was quiet and peaceful but that we could easily travel to neighbouring towns for site-seeing, shopping and meals.

All in all, an excellent vacation. Thank you.

Travel tips

  • Casa Susanna is ideally situated in Praiano - just off the main road and with a beautiful, unobstructed view. If you like peace and quiet evenings, then Praiano is again, ideal. It's a very small town with only a few shops and restaurants but that is part of its charm. However, Praiano is also ideally located mid-way between Positano, (10 km away), and Amalfi, (9 km away). Both towns are easily and quickly accessed by bus, and so you have the best of both worlds.
  • If you have a car, we would recommend taking the bus to Positano as parking may be an issue.
  • We would readily recommend Casa Susanna and hope to return ourselves.

April 2008 - We had a wonderful time there. We loved the fact that everything we needed was within a five-iron shot. Macellerias, alimentari, wines and beers, restaurants, and the Internet next door. The bus stop was practically across the street, as was the Tabacchi where we purchased our SITA tickets. The local vendors were very helpful; and with our little bit of Italian and lots of hand motions, we always managed to communicate our needs.

The view from the living/dining room and of course the patio was just amazing! Even watching a storm approach was something so different from home.

Further along the same path a walk to the beach and lunch or dinner at one of the restaurants next to the water -- The Petit Restaurant. We had a delightful lunch of marinated anchovies homemade by mama (and we met mama!) and later a delicious dinner of mixed fish and pasta.
  • A day trip to Salerno was great. We took the bus to Amalfi, changed buses, and found ourselves in Salerno well within two hours. It's a delightful place to shop, eat, and enjoy the beach. Later, stopping by each of the smaller towns on the way home (Maiori and Minori) is also fun to do and so much smaller and quieter than the better known towns.
  • Praiano was just what we wanted: a small town where we could interact with the locals, a place with easy access to all the other towns on the coast. A quiet town where we could truly relax.

August 2007 - We really enjoyed our time at Casa Susanna. The view is incredible from the amazing terrace and was definitely a highlight of the holiday.

We were delighted with the location as we felt part of a real Italian community and were able to participate in festivals and experience something of Italian life rather than be surrounded by tourists.

Praiano had everything we needed - a great little supermarket, butcher, bars and restaurants.

Although we spent a fair amount of out time admiring the view from the terrace we were well situated for interesting trips to Herculaneum, Mount Vesuvius, Positano, Ravello and Amalfi. I agree with previous reviews that hiring a car would be problematic and we were glad that we decided to use public transport.

We were entirely satisfied with all our dealings with Summer in Italy and were very impressed with the efficient and helpful service. Everything was very clear and well organised. I would definitely recommend this company and when we come back to Italy will certainly be booking through Summer in Italy. Thank you very much for making things so easy and worry free.

Travel tips

  • The local supermarket kept fresh basil in the back - you just need to ask for it. We found the staff very helpful.
  • The tourist information office was helpful with planning trips and they also had bus and Circumvesuviana timetables.
  • The Sita buses generally ran on time but make sure you turn up at least 15-20 mins before departure time from Amalfi as they tend to leave when full even if that means going early. You need tickets in advance which you can buy from the newsagent in Praiano. They are valid for 24 hrs from stamping them on the bus.
  • There are several bars and restaurants in Praiano but we found the Trattoria San Gennaro had a great view and was reasonably priced. Food was good too. We also ate in the Trattoria Al Teatro in Amalfi located along the Ancient Staircase which was great. Our favourite place for a drink, particularly as the sun was setting and into the evening, was the cafe in the piazza at the bottom of the steps of the Duomo in Amalfi - expensive but the atmosphere was fantastic.
  • We visited Pompeii a few years ago and of the two I preferred Herculaneum which is better preserved and a lot less crowded - it is also the same stop on the Circumvesuviana for Vesuvius. We were advised to go up Vesuvius in the morning before it got too hot and were glad we took the advice.
  • We decided to spend an extra night in Naples and absolutely loved it: incredible amount of history, fantastic atmosphere, the best pizzas, great restaurants and very friendly locals. We didn't feel at all vulnerable or unsafe despite what the guide books say.
  • By the way, we decided to book a taxi from Naples airport to Casa Susanna and back to Naples which worked very well.

Travel tips

  • If you arrive by car, use the recommended road to Praiano and save the Amalfitana for another day (Vietri sul Mare - Praiano ca 90 min!)
  • There are up-to-date timetables for the local bus in the house, very convenient.
  • Take the local bus to Positano and then catch the boat to Capri or Amalfi or wherever you want to go, quicker and nicer than the SITA buses.
  • Buy lots of lemons and make your own lemon juice on the terrace!

June 2007 - My husband and I had a wonderful time at Casa Susanna. The villa was perfect for us and the people in town are marvelous.

We ate whatever meals we could on the terrace, overlooking an amazing view.

The villa is right off the road in a very convenient location with fresh markets just down the street where you can buy lemons that are the size of grapefruits.

At 2:00 in the afternoon you could hear families getting together for their lunch, laughing, talking and enjoying everything around them. It is perfect!

Travel tips

  • Day trips were scheduled daily from Pompeii to Capri. Once we understood the bus schedule, everything went fine.
  • We rented a motor boat for a couple of hours and went exploring the coast. That was a very memorable event and I would recommend any one to do that.
  • Stay away from the restaurants in hotels and look for the family owned ones. You will not be disappointed.

  • For groceries, go to Alimentari Tutto Per Tutti, Corso Umberto I. It is about a 20 minute walk in the upper town. They have an amazing wine cellar and the sommelier is very helpful, speaks excellent English, and is very proud of local and regional wines.
  • The house is right underneath an Internet Point.
  • Finally, if the weather is bad and the Amalfi/Positano ferry service is not running, forget about the SITA bus. They were so packed that the drivers did not bother stopping in Praiano. There are excellent walking resources in the house.

May 2007 - We had a fabulous two weeks at Casa Susanna. It can be summed up in two words: great terrace... great view... great location. Okay, okay. It might take more than two words.

It was just as the website described -- no surprises.

We used public transportation almost daily to get to Positano, Amalfi, Pompeii, Ravello, Sorrento, Capri, etc. No need for a car.

We used the kitchen extensively. Groceries were easy to gather from the very friendly shopkeepers nearby.

We spent hours on the marvelous terrace sipping espresso and/or limoncello.

We would go back (and probably will) in a heartbeat. Thanks!

A very professional organization. A pleasure to work with. Would definitely book through Summer In Italy again. Only wish Alitalia was as organized!

I asked for an iron to be put into the house and this was done therefore I thank you for that.

Travel tips

  • Bus: buy your tickets before going on the bus at the tabacchi shop.
  • Shops: all nearby shops provide everything you need. A little knowledge of Italian helps when buying your provisions
  • Restaurants: Il Pino was extremely good. San Gennaro large portions but not typically Italian as chips were served with the main course
  • Walking: Path of the Gods, use a local guide as many of the paths end in private property.
  • Boat Trips: Capri from Positano or Amalfi suggest you book in advance
  • Ravello: Classical Music Concerts
  • Day trips: Pompeii, Mount Vesuvius, Caserta can be easily reached using the Sita Bus and local train or booking a taxi for the day. Taxis cost around €240.00/day

April 2007 - Casa Susanna's top feature is the fantastic deck. After running around on Sita buses for the first week, we realized the best spot on the Amalfi coast was the terrace overlooking the sea and with views of Positano.

The location is also excellent. Unlike Positano and Amalfi, which are very geared for the tour bus crowd, Praiano is a real town with real shops, good local restaurants, and a church piazza full of people in the afternoon. Great place to simply hang out.

Travel tips

  • In the spring, bring warm clothes for inside the stone house. It's not exactly warm in the kitchen.
  • When in Praiano, get a pizza to go at Braca and enjoy it on your terrace. Also, the Gelateria on the way down to the church piazza is very good.
  • Walk to Positano on the main road instead of taking the bus. Takes about an hour, has less traffic than you would imagine, and is stunningly beautiful.
  • Check out the artists studio in the tower near the Praiano harbour.
  • Eat lots of peperoncino [local dried hot pepper].

October 2006 - My wife cried when the door to the terrace was opened. It was so beautiful.

The kitchen had everything I needed to cook. Which we did everyday. (Italian of course). The little stores with fresh produce fish and meat were no more than 50 yards or less away from the front door. Everything was so close. The people were so friendly I felt part of the neighborhood.

The local restaurants were great and the scooter rental place was 100 feet from the villa. We had a blast on our scooter. We put almost 500 km on it in 3 days. Our friends who told us to go to Praiano have already reserved this villa for a week next August

I felt that the way your website gave us enough of the information to know what our experience would be like. Great pics and excellent descriptions.

Travel tips

  • Although everything was inexpensive. If you bring a small amount of dish detergent and laundry detergent you'll save 3 Euro.
  • If you are a clean freak bring your own sponges to clean the dishes.
  • Rent a scooter it is the only way to see the coast. We went beyond the norm for day trips. We went to Paestum on the scooter it is about 65 miles one way.
  • Anywhere you eat will be good. One of our favorites places was the restaurant/pizzeria in Amalfi, right next to the church. Grilled veggies and seafood and pizza, great.

October 2006 - The terrace and view at Casa Susanna is nothing short of amazing. We experienced some of the most beautiful sunsets we have ever seen.

Casa Susanna is convenient to everything in the commercial area of Praiano - hotels, restaurants, bus stops, grocery stores - it has it all.

We were very comfortable, our host was more than helpful to us (5 stars to Raffaele!) and we loved it there.

We found it to be quiet and peaceful - had everything we needed - and can recommend it highly to any couple who loves a fabulous view.

We couldn't decide which place to rent - Casa Concetta or Casa Susanna. So - we rented both. We were so happy we did. Concetta gave us the lovely Italian neighborhood and Susanna gave us the fabulous view and the sense of being in the middle of the action! Thanks for the advice that led us to this decision. May 2006 - Casa Susanna was well situated in the centre of Praiano, a town that we came to feel very comfortable in. Even though it was on the coast road, the apartment's setting below the road blocked out much of the noise.

The terrace was the highlight. We enjoyed many a fine meal on the terrace after hiking all day.

August 2005 - We enjoyed our stay at Casa Susanna. The description given before booking had been fair, so the apartment lived up to our expectations. The owner was welcoming and helpful.

When "at home" we lived and ate on the large terrace, which was the best feature of the apartment. There were superb views over the sea, including to Capri and Positano, with dramatic light and cloud effects as the weather changed. A large canopy ensured a choice of sun or shade for most of the day. Everyday noises were around us, but that's part of staying in a village and nothing intruded too much!

The accommodation was simple and straightforward, but facilities were modern - including cooker, washing machine, hot water system and good size fridge/freezer.
