Really enjoyed

June 2016 - We really enjoyed Casa Matilde. The location was actually good although a long way down many steps to the beach. This is common in the area so no complaint. If you want a great location in town then perfect. If a beach is for you then maybe half way down the steps is better.

The owners and their son are delightful.

Summe In Italy were great.

Well located

June 2016 - Casa Matilde is a very light and bright apartment well located to the main street of Praiano. Quite a lot of stairs to contend with on arrival with heavy suitcases.

The owner, whilst a lovely lady, spoke little English.

Summer In Italy were pleasant to deal with... Communication was excellent.

Good

June 2015 - We enjoyed our stay in Praiano but it was very quiet and a bit of a hike (down many many steps) to the "beach". It really wasn't a beach but more of a concrete slab where they sell chairs and umbrellas. The view was beautiful and the water was incredible. I actually didn't miss the sand. The town is not at all touristy like some of the others on the Amalfi Coast but there isn't much shopping or easy access to a beach in Praiano. I did have the best croissants of my entire month in Italy at the small coffee shop there. It really is an incredible place.

Travel tips

  • We enjoyed our restful time at the Beach Club.
  • We visited Positano which was a 15 minute drive.
  • We ate at a wonderful restaurant within a block of the apartment recommended by the owner.

Fantastic

March 2015 - Casa Matilde is a lovely 2-bedroom, two bathroom apartment, just steps above the main street in Praiano. We found it clean, uncluttered, bright, and cheerful.

The owner, Antonio, passed along some tips on where to eat and what to see. We were not disappointed. The owners' son helped us to locate a parking spot for our rental car, and assisted in carrying our luggage up the 60+ stairs to the apartment. Thank you for sharing your home with us. It is a special place, and you obviously take pride in keeping it and the property in such beautiful condition. We were very happy to spend 8-nights as your guests, and appreciate the special little touches you provided to make our stay even more enjoyable.

Because we visited in early March, the weather was cool and occasionally rainy. So we spent some time each day sitting in the kitchen near a portable heater, drinking tea and Amaretto (thoughtfully provided by the owners).

I am so happy to have found Valeria and Summer In Italy!! You answered all my questions and concerns with patience and kindness. You provided us with all the details we needed prior to our arrival, and helped us feel confident by knowing that you were available if we should have any problems or issues while at Casa Matilde. Grazie tante!

Travel tips

  • If you visit off season, consider bringing warm clothes, such as fleeces. You'll need them even in the apartment, as there is no central heating system (such as we are accustomed to in the USA). There are good heating/AC units in the bedrooms, but unfortunately the warm air doesn't seem to circulate the heat very efficiently into the living areas of the apartment.
  • Although we had a car, you'd be wise to avoid driving, because parking is truly at a premium all over the region, even in off-season, and the buses are excellent. They can take you everywhere you'd like to go (quickly and relatively inexpensively) around the complete area.
  • Praiano is just about mid-coast, and is a perfect location for exploring the whole region and surrounding environs.
  • The Restaurant Che Bontà, owned and run by a sweet young couple, was our favorite local spot.
  • Some of the most amazing hiking trails actually began or ended at our doorstep!

September 2014 - Casa Matilde was our favourite accommodation on our trip.

Spectacular views and spacious, clean and comfortable. The perfect place to stay on the Amalfi Coast.

Travel tips

  • We chose Praiano because we wanted a quiet town. Also we were half way between Positano and Amalfi which made bus trips shorter.
  • For those who enjoy hiking, do the Walk of the Gods from your door step up to the town of Nocelle. In Amalfi you can walk to Atrani and have a drink in the piazza. We also walked up to Ravello from Atrani which is another beautiful town.
  • If you are a coeliac, Che Bontà Gastronomia will cater for you and there are GF options in mini-supermarkets.
  • The steps to the beach are across the road near Hotel Smeraldo. As you approach the private beach, turn right to the free beach which is rocky BUT the water is perfect.

September 2014 - We stayed at Casa Matilde for 5 nights and it was a wonderful experience.

Amazing views from every window and terrace.

Great base to explore the Amalfi Coast with bus service only few steps away.

Please let Mrs Agata [the owner] know how much we enjoyed our stay and thank her for how friendly she was to us. Lovely lady. We didn't know any Italian and she had limited English but smiles and pointing seemed to work fine.

Summer In Italy has been great to deal with and I will be recommending them to others.

Travel tips

  • There are a couple of different bus services which have different tickets. You can buy on board the local bus ticket while you need to pre-purchase the Sita bus ticket.
  • It is cheaper to get a multi day pass.
  • If you are travelling by boat to Positano make use of the porter service for your luggage. Well worth the 5 EUR as the bus connection is quite a hill climb from the port.
  • The "Walk of the Gods" is well worth doing with amazing views and not as difficult as some reviews suggest.

April 2014 - Casa Matilde is located about 66 steps above the street, as all the apartments around as it seems. It's spacious and it has 2 bathrooms which is great. Each bedroom has its own porch with a great view.

The owners of Casa Matilde were very nice and easy to communicate with before our arrival and very helpful afterwards.

August 2013 - We were at Casa Matilde for 2 weeks. It was sensational! Praiano is beautiful and relatively quiet - so much better than Positano or Amalfi.

The Casa is only 66 steps up from the road and very central to the village. It has all facilities for easy living. Mrs Agata [the owner] was completely helpful, welcoming, and available but not in any way intrusive.

I would recommend this for any family or group of 4 people. The views from all the extensive windows are to die for. We also got extremely fit walking down to (and more importantly up from) the beach!

Thanks for a great holiday!

Travel tips

  • Walk the "Trail of the Gods". Wonderful. you can climb up a 1000 steps from right outside the house to join it half way across from Bomerano to Nocelle and on to Positano.

Fantastic

June 2013 - We loved Casa Matilde. From the first meeting of Mrs Agata, and our attempts to understand her passionate instructions, we fell in love with her. She met us at the Hotel Tramonto D'Oro, and carried our largest bag up the 66 steps, and while we were still puffing, she returned for our other bag!

The apartment has a wonderful view and we found it most comfortable. Praiano is usually quiet compared to the other popular places on the Amalfi Coast, but we did get woken twice by fireworks, one, a spectacular show from a yacht off Positano. Well worth being woken for...

The beach at Praiano was difficult for me with it's 400 steps, (especially in the heat of the day), but we went to the Coast for the fabulous towns and views. I loved Amalfi and Positano for day visits, but Praiano was great for getting to know the locals, and enjoying their company.

The lack of Wifi at the apartment was initially off-putting, but the Bar (Le Fioriere, I think) down the road opposite the hotel was a lovely place to sit and have a peach tea and catch up with my family.

Almost everything we needed was there. The kitchen was great, washing machine very welcome after a few weeks of travelling, beds comfortable with air con. I had a problem with the shower, which sometimes went cold - probably because I don't like a strong flow, so the gas kicked in and out. Didn't really get the hang of the TV but didn't need it, so did not complain.

Mrs Agata explained the complexities of the rubbish system, and once we realised we had to put it out at night, it worked well. All instructions are written and posted on the kitchen cupboard door.

A great place to relax, with books provided, and the buses convenient, for exploring the rest of the coast, although mostly crowded as the day goes on.

The local church is lovely, and the shop down the road selling shoes, cosmetics, and all kinds of things, was a great place for reasonable leather shoes.

Agnese in the Hotel Tramonto D'Oro at reception was very helpful with translations and information. A gem.

All in all we loved our stay, and would recommend this place, if you don't want to be among the crowds. A little touch of local Italian life - try it!

I liked the way you provided information for our accommodation and kept in touch along the way. You were easy and efficient to deal with and I have recommended you to my friends and my Travel Club members, some of whom are busy investigating for their next journey. Well done, and thanks.

March 2013 - We loved our stay in Casa Matilde. It was the perfect place to relax at the end of our 7 week visit to Italy. We were so thankful we were able to add 2 nights to our weeks stay. We were happy to spend much of our time watching the ever changing sea and sky.

Everything was neat and clean and well maintained in the spacious apartment. The owners were kind enough to provide a portable heater which we needed for the cold days at the beginning of our stay in March.

I decided to book with Summer in Italy after reading several reviews online such as the Slowtravel site. Also, I liked the range of properties offered in price and type. We were satisfied with all our contacts with Summer in Italy. We have recommended Summer in Italy to our friends and family. I look forward to planning another trip to Italy in the future and I know just where to start -- Summer in Italy!

Fantastic

September 2012 - We absolutely loved Casa Matilde...

Mrs Agata [the owner] was very warm and welcoming even though we had a language barrier... a very nice lady!

The apartment was everything and more than we expected, extremely comfortable and a very well equipped kitchen. The only thing that was missing was wine glasses and Mrs. Agata showed up a few days later with glasses for us... what a surprise.

We enjoyed the area so much we are considering a return trip. Thank you Mrs. Agata and Thank you Praiano for you amazing hospitality.

First experience with Summers in Italy and there were no surprises everything was as described and communication was effortless.

Travel tips

  • There are so many cafe's and restaurants all you have to do is go out into the street and explore.
  • The buses are frequent and the Sita bus is smaller but we had the most fun riding this bus... and experience in itself.
  • Positano and Amalfi are about 20 minutes or so in either direction by bus both very nice places to go.
  • Our visit took us to the top of a mountain to Trattoria Tagliata... amazing place to eat in Montepertuso a short trip from Positano. They will even pick up a one of the hotels in Positano for free and bring you back when you are done. This is a family run restaurant and they make you feel welcome the moment you enter. Food is plentiful and keeps coming and so does the wine.
  • Another nice surprise along the route to Positano... we walked from Praiano... an experience in itself... was a pleasant find, a romantic lunch on the cliff side patio of Al Barilotto del Nonno. The people were so friendly, food and view amazing, we could have stayed all day.
  • There are so many things to see and explore in this area you have to go yourself to see... no words can describe the beauty or the hospitality.

May 2012 - Casa Matilde is one of the best holiday apartments we have ever stayed in. It is extremely comfortably equipped and has a wonderful view of the Amalfi Coast from each of its three balconies.

We have no hesitation in recommending the apartment either for two couples (as we were) or for a family with two children.

Travel tips

  • We used public transport which we found frequent and reliable, though often very crowded. But you really would not want to drive your own car along the coast road.
  • The shops in Praiano are small but provide everything you need for self-catering and the fish shop has wonderful fish (so fresh it's still in rigor mortis) and is only one minute's walk away from the flat.
  • We ate out at the local pizzeria and can recommend the family-sized pizza which is more than large enough for four adults.

December 2011 - I consider Casa Matilde to be the best apartment vacation rental that I have stayed in. The owners, Mrs. Agata & Antonio were so nice and very accommodating. They helped me with my luggage.

The apartment is very well equipped, very clean and has the most amazing view from their terraces. The location is also very convenient as it is steps away from the groceries, tourist office, ATM machine, restaurants, bus stops and post office.

I had the most enjoyable time during my 3 weeks stay at Casa Matilde and I would recommend it to all my friends and family who may be traveling to the Amalfi Coast. If I am ever so lucky to return to this beautiful part of Italy, I know that I would want to stay at Casa Matilde again.

Travel tips

May 2011 - Hello, we three have just returned from a month in Italy. The two weeks we spent in Praiano at Casa Matilde were wonderful. The whole family could not have been more helpful. We loved the Casa. It was everything, and more. What fantastic views, just breath taking. I even became used to the 66 steps. As we went up and down them several times a day. What a great location. The bus was almost at the foot of the steps, shops just a few steps away. The market was just down the road, on the left and they were great.

Two of my friends had never been to Italy, and they fell in love with the coast. We are already planning a month in two years, just in Praiano. We will us Summer in Italy, as I have used them each time I go.I have never had any problems. They are great. I can not say enough about them, so helpful. With the pictures that they take, you can bet that's what your place will look like.

Travel tips

  • Make sure you take time to relax and look at the views.
  • The market, Alimentari Rispoli on left with blue and white awning is wonderful, and are very reasonable. The family that owns it are great. They will get you whatever you want.
  • We also got pork chops cut, and a large stewing hen for chicken and home made noodles at the butcher down the road on the right, it is the last butcher on the way out of Praiano on the right.
  • Use the bus, Bar Del Sole sells tickets and will help you get times. Please don't forget to tip them, they are so helpful. We ran up and down the coast everyday.
  • From past trips to Praiano, I love Restaurant Chez Black in Positano, on the beach. We went there many times this trip. You will get mixed reviews, but out of countless meals, I and my friends never had a bad meal, what a view while you dine... Service is great also.

October 2010 - Thanks to Agata and Antonio for letting us stay in their apartment. We had a fantastic time exploring the Amalfi Coast, Capri and Pompeii.

Casa Matilde is a great place to stay. Our kids (7 and 10) enjoyed the space and freedom we had in the apartment.

La casa was spotless! Cleanliness is our number one priority when we travel!

Agata(the owner) is extremely nice and accommodating.

The house offers every comfort away from home and a thousand times better than a hotel or a bed and breakfast room.

The view of the coast is to die for, as well as the view of the mountain.

The people of Praiano are very friendly and happy to help with any questions you might have regarding the area.

We would definitely stay at Casa Matilde again especially since it is located close to public transportation, restaurants, food market and church.

We decided to book with your agency due to the knowledge,a sense of trust, the prompt responses and the kind conversations we have had with every single person we spoke with. Every person has a very good command of the English language. We would recommend your agency to anyone.

Travel tips

April 2010 - My daughter and I had a lovely time. Casa Matilde is central to Praiano, spacious, and quiet, give or take a few charming church bells.

The owner, Agata, is a delightful, generous person who makes every effort to be accommodating. The lack of a shared language was not a problem.

The bus stop is nearby, and easy. It was peaceful to be out of Positano, and everything was accessible. Not needing a car is a great addition.

I would stay there again.

Travel tips

  • There are 63 steps to the door, so going in and out might take a little planning for people over 40, but this is true of the entire region. Packing lightly helps.
  • Day-trips to Positano, Amalfi and Capri were just the beginning. Pompei is not far.
  • We recommend the ceramic stores in Positano rather than the factory nearby.
  • Good restaurants in Praiano, so it is not necessary to go far.
  • There is plenty to do, and one can do it at one's own pace.

We would definitely recommend this rental to friends and would return to it again ourselves if we should be so lucky.

Travel tips

  • We loved the Smeraldo restaurant across the street. Super-nice manager and staff, excellent food, and a wonderful terrace with beautiful views of the coast and sunset.

May 2009 - Casa Matilde is a great apartment with extraordinary views of the coastline and the ocean.

The apartment itself is spacious and pleasant and fitted our needs perfectly.

The owners are very friendly and helpful.

The small town, Praiano, is very nice with relatively few tourists and some very nice people.

The only negative thing to say is that the hotel/restaurant just across the street has a very noisy air conditioning or ventilation system placed on the roof, active from morning until evening. It can be heard very clearly from all apartment terraces. It is a bit annoying.

Keep up the good service and information level.

September 2008 - Good location central to Praiano. It's a good base to explore the Amalfi Coast. The local supermarket and restaurants were good.

The villa was basic but comfortable.

Your company provided a very efficient service and the information you sent was very helpful. We would recommend your company to other travellers.

August 2008 - We enjoyed the stay and in particular the views from the house and terraces.

The town is despite of the heavy traffic nice and there are interesting walks in the lateral hills rising from the ocean.

The house is clean and neat with enough room for our family of 5 (three very large kids).

The kitchen could use some sharp knives - necessary if you are going to cook anything more advanced than an omelette or breakfast.

We were satisfied with the services.

Travel tips

  • Bring a good map and description of the many hiking trails - for a large part in the form of hundreds or thousands of stairs and all with splendid views over the coast and interesting looks on fields and gardens etc.
  • We brought a car, but it can be extremely difficult to find parking space.

March 2008 - We stayed at Casa Matilde March 15-29, 2008 and found it to be a great place to stay. The pictures on the web-site show it just as it is. The views from the terrace were beautiful!!

The location is perfect as the bus stop, food market and restaurants are just a few steps away. One day when we awoke to not having hot water, the owner was there immediately to remedy it and even brought a home-made pastry for us (delicious!)

Thanks to Summer In Italy for responding right away to any questions that we had. You are very professional!

Travel tips

  • Eat at La Brace, Tramonto D'Oro (absolutely marvelous food and views), the bar that's across from there, and also Smeraldo's.

November 2007 - We had a wonderful week with good weather, even in November.

The home was spotless. Everything worked well. The washing machine and the complete kitchen and baths worked well. The unlimited hot water was appreciated.

Praiano was ideal with several small restaurants a few steps away. The local residents were helpful and friendly. Grocery shopping, souvenir shops and good public transportation were steps away.

The views were outstanding.

I was entirely pleased with all aspects of the rental and would recommend your organization highly.

Travel tips

  • The beautiful walk to Positano through the trails is rigorous but satisfying (allow at least 4 hours from Praiano)
  • Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius and Capri are easily accessible by public SITA buses, cabs, and Circumvesuviana train.
  • Avoid renting a car as the driving is difficult and Naples traffic is terrifying.
  • Bring good walking shoes. Bring your own soaps and shampoos.

August 2007 - We loved our stay at Casa Matilde.

Agata and Antonio are wonderful owners.

The house is clean and bright with fantastic views.

Praiano is a quiet town filled with nice, friendly people.

It was a great place for our family vacation.

You are doing an excellent job! It was easy to reserve Casa Matilde and pay for our stay. The instructions were clear, and everything was in order when we arrived. Keep up the good work, and thanks!

Travel tips

  • Walk around Praiano and explore. The churches are beautiful.
  • Angela's little grocery store is run by great people, especially Angela!
  • We enjoyed our meals at Restaurant La Strada and Restaurant La Brace.
  • We also truly enjoyed the local festivals.
  • Our day trips to Positano, Sorrento and Pompeii were fun.
  • Be sure to have a meal at The Red Lion (Il Leone Rosso) near the train/bus station in Sorrento. The food is very good.
  • Capri was beautiful but a bit too much of a tourist trap for our taste. Praiano is just as beautiful and a better place to relax!
