Had a perfect time

June 2017 - Casa Mafalda is perfect to enjoy your time nestled in the heart of Praiano, allowing to enjoy the local flavor.

The owner was more than accommodating and responsive, helpful with restaurant and club reservations as well as booking a ride back to the train station.

The property is a few steps away from the center of town, including great pizza/takeout, fine dining and shops, as well the steps which lead down to the beach. It includes a big kitchen with any amenities you would need, and nice large and comfortable bed. The view from the patio is breathtaking.

Praiano was the perfect place to stay, less commercial than the neighboring towns of Amalfi and Positano, which are easily accessible by the local bus (which includes a stop literally at the foot of the property).

Praiano is quiet and peaceful for the most part, but offers the lively Gavitella Beach club as well as Famous Club Africana if you're looking for music, drinks and dancing.

Our week at Casa Mafalda was one of the most enjoyable of our lives, and I highly recommend booking this lovely home.

September 2014 - We had a wonderful stay at Casa Mafalda.

The apartment was excellent and we will stay there again if we ever travel again to Europe. It was very clean.

The owners sister lives next door and was extremely helpful (especially when we were cooking a fresh caught fish -- she brought over a number of seasonings that we didn't have), yet was very respectful of our privacy.

One issue -- the Wi-Fi did not work in the house -- we used the sister's Wi-Fi but could only use it from the porch.

Summer In Italy is, with my measure, one of the best booking sites I've ever experienced. The fact that you take the pictures and know the properties makes comparisons very fair and easy to find what we wanted.

Travel tips

  • We spent most of the time hiking the streets, stopping at the shops in Praiano and taking the stairs down to the beach (400 stairs -- which we did daily -- even though we are in our late 60's).
  • Praiano is "Italian" -- while easy to find English speaking persons, many do not speak English.
  • Unlike Positano, Praiano does not have a lot of tourist activity and the beaches are pure Italian -- that is what we preferred.
  • We did NOT have a car (not sure I'd want to drive on the road there -- very tight and lots of drop offs).
  • We did take buses and trains to Pompeii one day and caught a boat to Capri from down at the beach another.
  • By the way -- the beach is not like US beaches -- there isn't any sand, and when you swim you are immediately in deep water with good size waves -- however, I loved it.
  • The area does have lots of recliners with hoods (if you don't want sun on your face) and great drinks from the bar, plus music. We found it fascinating and very relaxing.

August 2014 - We simply loved and released our stay at Casa Mafalda.

A combination of Google Translate and hand gesturing led to warm and animated discussions with the owners making us quickly feel welcome and at ease.

I loved dealing with Summer In Italy because I felt there were people on the other side! Best of luck: I'll be in touch.

Travel tips

  • Casa Mafalda served us very well as a base from which to hike. We walked to Positano using the Walks of the Gods and returned to Praiano by road.
  • We also walked to Bomerano.
  • Praiano is well served by both the Sita buses and the Positano-Praiano local bus which made access to Positano, Amalfi and further easy and cheap.
  • Having access to two beaches was pretty special.

October 2013 - What a fabulous place to stay! Go there immediately and drink in the awesome view which was breath taking. The light on the coastline varies as the day passes and the differing tones and shades and colour would have seduced me into sitting and watching it all day -- but we had to climb down to three hidden beaches and go up Vesuvius, and go to Pompeii and and and... it was all fab!

The lovely tiny shop is downstairs! The pizzas a three minute walk. And the Italians are the most charming people on Earth.

The family-owners were next door and delightful.

You guessed it! We loved this place!

Your service was excellent, I was able to ask online about towels the instant I thought of it and got an answer in seconds! Well done you.

Travel tips

  • Go there! But don't take a car, let the bus driver negotiate the narrow bends.

October 2013 - Casa Mafalda is very attractive and cheerful.

The neighbors (owner's sister) are very friendly, welcoming and helpful although they don't speak English.

The terrace area is small, but an effort is made to make it private.

The location is excellent, very handy to Angela's Alimentari and the rest of the town. One gets to experience "living like a local," and we found that positive.

We enjoyed our two weeks there.

We have rented from Summer in Italy for six years, and we find it an excellent company to do business with. All inquiries have always been addressed very promptly, and we have recommended the website to friends.

August 2013 - I enjoyed Casa Mafalda tremendously. It was not terribly spacious, but three of us (all adults) lived there comfortably for the week.

It's a bit of a trek to the beach, and there are no sandy beaches nearby, but that's true for much of the coast in general. The closest beach (really just a little almost private cove with a concrete landing on which one could lay) was my favorite because of the little traffic it saw.

The neighbors (family of the owner) were wonderfully friendly and helpful.

This was the most helpful site I've visited in planning travels. Detailed information and support made Summer in Italy the website I now recommend.

Travel tips

  • Be prepared for the steps to and from the beach.
  • The priest at the local parish (Don Pio) is a delightful man worth meeting. The same holds for the barber whose shop is directly under Casa Mafalda.
  • Trattoria San Gennaro was my favorite meal of the week.
  • The sentiero degli dei is a bit of a hike, but it's breathtaking and worth it!

July 2013 - Casa Mafalda was a great place to stay in Praiano. It was quiet, convenient to the markets, restaurants, the beach and the Sita bus. The apartment was safe, clean and just right for two people.

The owner was kind and helpful including the family that lives next door.

We would stay again.

Thank you Summer in Italy for great instruction and directions. We will use you again because we were so pleased with the process.

Travel tips

  • We enjoyed being in the heart of Praiano with the people of the town.
  • We walked to the beach everyday and enjoyed the water.
  • There are nice restaurants and a water purifier down the block where you can fill water bottles for ten cents.

Very good

July 2013 - We stayed for 3 nights. The Amalfi Coast is beautiful and it can be admired sufficiently from Casa Mafalda. The view is amazing from the terrace. Photos are accurate and place is clean. Will be comfortable with only a couple. There was AC which was perfect for Summer!

There are 2 beaches close by - but you have to be fit to climb up back to the apartment(about 30-45 min) - it's fun in a way and definitely keeps you in shape. Several eateries nearby (less than 5 min walk).

The unit is located right beside the caretaker's sister - who will be your neighbour and are at your assistance - very lovely family!

SITA bus stop is a short walk away from the apartment (to your right).

Casa Mafalda is good value for money and recommended :)

Travel tips

  • You can buy your SITA bus tickets from the newsagent located right beside the stop as well. SITA bus goes to Amalfi, Sorrento, Positano importantly -- so perfect!
  • I don't suggest driving on Amalfi Coast, its a little scary - but the SITA bus drivers do a fantastic job. It's like a rollercoaster ride! Ha ha.
  • There's an internet cafe nearby as well.
  • There's a mini supermarket/grocery store right below (literally) the apartment along the street. He has local wine and it was 6 euros for 1 litre! Amazing!
  • If you wanna cook in the apartment, you got to buy the groceries, there's no oil. I only remember seeing sugar and washing machine capsules. No dishwashing liquid either.

June 2013 - We very much enjoyed our stay at Casa Mafalda. It is well positioned in the centre of Praiano, with easy access to shops and restaurants and brilliant views from the terrace. It is well-equipped and you feel like you are living in a real Italian home, surrounded by local Italian families who have lived in Praiano all their lives.

Praiano is a very good place to be if you want to feel you are removed from the very touristy towns on the Amalfi Coast. It is much less commercialised but has very good restaurants and cafes and also good small shops for food and other necessities. The bus service is regular to Positano and Amalfi - very busy at certain times of day!

Summer in Italy was a helpful organisation - we booked with it because we liked the look of the apartment and were not disappointed.

Travel tips

  • We bought food in all the local shops and really enjoyed the lovely Mediterranean produce.
  • Our favourite restaurant was the Trattoria San Gennaro, near the Duomo - good service, lovely food, great views.
  • Be prepared to wait for buses and have them go by full - but the drivers are amazing and try to pack as many people as possible on!

May 2013 - Truly enjoyed it. My 3rd villa rental near Amalfi. This particular one was on the other side of the road, which made it a bit noisier but the view was just as fantastic as the other two. The facilities were superb, very clean and complete.

Nice to be that close to the "grocery" store.

Travel tips

  • Above the grocery store, couple of doors down from the butcher and the bus stop.
  • Central to Amalfi, Capri, Positano and Sorrento.

May 2013 - Casa Mafalda and by extension Praiano were the best part of our three week holiday in Italy.

The unit was clean, comfortable and convenient (right above the main road but quiet) with an unparalleled view of Positano and even Capri in the distance from the terrace/balcony.

Other members of the owners' family live in the adjacent units and they were friendly and willing to help if questions arose.

Travel tips

  • Give serious consideration to this unit and the tranquil setting of Praiano from which to access Positano (via the local Praiano/Positano bus, or SITA which serves the entire coast).
  • We enjoyed our visits to Amalfi and Positano, but Praiano proved to be the right choice for us.

Travel tips

  • The hosts and villagers were the friendliest people you could meet.
  • The apartment is very convenient for groceries, restaurants, boat trips/hire or buses.
  • The local beach requires some stamina (400 steps), but there is easier access to further beaches.
  • Hiking for the adventurous, Capri, Limoncello factory, Mt Vesuvius and Pompei are all close to hand.

September 2012 - Our stay at Casa Mafalda was wonderful. Check-in was so easy, as was check out. The apartment is very roomy and nicely equipped as a vacation rental. We very much appreciated the washing machine as we were there for the last week of a 3-week vacation.

The view is spectacular. We spent every evening, sipping wine and enjoying the sunset and the lights of Positano, as well as many mornings with a cup of coffee.

The patio is shared with Angela (the sister of the owner) and her family, but a gate separates the two. Angela spoke no English and I speak very little Italian but it was not an issue at all. Add Angela's little grandson, Giuseppe, and it just added that just more. Hugs were exchanged upon leaving, both with Angela and her sister with my express desire to return, some day, to Casa Mafalda.

Highly recommend it. Oh, earlier reviews that I had read of the apartment mentioned a problem with hot water in the shower. Did not find any issues at all.

I do not remember how I found, or was referred to, Summer in Italy, but all I can say is that I am so happy to have done business with your company. EVERY single dealing, be it the reservation process, the contract, any questions/emails - ALL were handled in the most efficient and delightful way. I so hope that I am able to still access the letter that was sent with all of our check-in information. I didn't bring it home as I was trying to do away with any excess weight for our trip home. With that being said, I feel that letter is the best I have ever read as "us tourists" set out to visit a different country. The humor is delightful, and the message is invaluable.

I cannot thank each and everyone of you enough for making this segment of our trip to Italy amazing. I will, forever, refer your company.

Travel tips

  • Casa Mafalda is on the main thoroughfare through Praiano which makes access to the restaurants, grocery stores, tabacco shop, internet cafe, etc., a breeze. There is a grocery store, Angela's Alimentari, right below the apartment and our groceries were delivered for us the first time we shopped - perhaps because we had bought a huge container of local wine.
  • The SITA bus is easily caught in town and connects one to the entire Amalfi Coast. It can get very crowded, the road is narrow - it is a ride not to be missed!!! Tickets are available at the tobacco shop. There is also a red local bus, tickets purchased onboard, which runs between Praiano and Positano and we used that one day.
  • There is free wi-fi at one of the hotels in town, but as my netbook was acting up, we just went to the internet cafe and found it reasonable and the owner so very nice.
  • Praiano is a lovely, quiet place to enjoy the Amalfi Coast - we loved visiting Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, and Maiori, but it was so nice each evening to return to Praiano and Casa Mafalda.
  • We had lovely dinners at Restaurant La Strada, Restaurant La Brace, as well as Che Bonta (which also offers take-out). The food and service at all was amazing.

September 2012 - Praiano was the perfect "home base" for our trip, as it was nestled perfectly between Amalfi and Positano, yet not as filled with tourists.

Casa Mafalda was clean, large and airy. The best part was the balcony with stunning ocean views and a great spot to catch the sunset.

I enjoyed the service, responsiveness of Summer In Italy customer service, and location of my apartment rental.

Travel tips

  • Don't miss a day trip Capri, it is lovely.
  • Groceries are easy to get any time of day or night, there is a small store below the apartment.

Casa Mafalda was great too. We liked also, that in neighbor lived Italian people so near. It was nice.

Travel tips

July 2012 - We enjoyed our stay at Casa Mafalda very much.

Casa Mafalda is very comfortable and spacious for two people. The view from the terrace is amazing.

The owners and the neighbours are very open and helpful.

The village is calmer, greener and not so crowded, thanks to that it is more authentic then Positano or Amalfi.

Everything was perfect. Thank you for your professionalism.

Travel tips

  • It's difficult to park your car in Praiano and the whole Amalfi coast, so it's better to use buses.
  • We recommend you pizzeria "Che Bontà" close to Casa Mafalda. They make delicious pizzas an you can take them home. Price per pizza is about 6 euro.

June 2012 - Casa Mafalda was a good apartment with everything we needed, and kept to a high standard.

It is well appointed and well fitted. Just right for 2 middle aged people on an active sight seeing holiday.

The village location made it convenient for shops, bars and restaurants.

Most of the location was excellent for travelling the Amalfi coast on the local bus service. Roughly half way between Salerno and Sorrento, it gave us the opportunity to explore the whole coastline by bus.

We even joined the walk on the footpath "path of the gods" from the village by walking up to the convent of San Domenico.

Restaurant and bar prices were probably a little cheaper in Praiano than in the more popular nearby resorts.

The family who live in adjoining apartments and who run the shop were always pleasant and helpful.

The views from the small, but adequate balcony were superb. Watching the sunset over the Amalfi coast with a glass of wine, after a meal of the best home made ravioli from the shop below, was a true taste Italy. We would return.

We thought the whole booking and staying experience was painless. Keep doing what your doing.

Travel tips

  • We had a superb holiday. It was very busy, not a pool or beach type location.
  • We used the bus for transport in preference to a hire car.: We had a good value boat trip to Capri with 'Praiano boats' at 50 euros/person from Praiano harbour.
  • If you like walking the coastal footpaths are good and the views are fantastic, but make sure you're fit, the climbs and descents are long and hard.
  • We used the 'Sunflower' series guide book for everything from the walking routes to the bus time tables and found it good.

May 2012 - I loved Casa Mafalda and would stay here again as well as refer it to anyone wanting to stay in the Amalfi Coast!

It is clean, great central location, and has a beautiful panoramic view.

Although the neighbors don't speak English, they are really nice and will give recommendations to restaurants in the area. They even brought us pieces of pie they made!

Travel tips

  • Do not be thrown off by the photos of the apartment. It's much nicer in person!
  • Do not rely on the Sita buses or schedule. Instead, spend the extra money on taxis to get you to the different towns. Gerardo will charge 20 euros for rides to Positano and 25 euros to Amalfi town.
  • Restaurant Il Pino in Praiano is amazing, with great food and a great view! We went there three times!! Get the lemon risotto served in a gigantic hollowed out lemon!

All amenities are close by with a well-stocked shop underneath the apartment.

No problems with any part of the booking process. I would recommend yourselves to anybody wanting to visit Italy. Thank you.

Travel tips

  • We chose to have a hire car for the 2 weeks and never had any problems parking close to the apartment, even in August. Parking is more difficult in other towns so the bus is best for short excursions - Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, etc.
  • All restaurants we visited were first class and we would have no issues with returning to any.

June 2011 - Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Mafalda.

Signora Agata [the owner] was helpful in getting us settled. Her sister Angela who lived next to the apartment was exceptionally friendly, and helpful with all of our questions and needs. We enjoyed meeting and getting to know our friendly Italian neighbors and two French couples who were renting the larger apartment above ours.

The apartment was comfortable and well equipped. The view from the patio was spectacular.

This is the first time we have dealt with Summer in Italy, which we found more or less randomly on the Internet. We were positively impressed with the efficient, helpful service and the detailed, proactive information and management of the process. We would use Summer in Italy again without hesitation and would heartily endorse your company to others.

Travel tips

  • Driving and parking was a real challenge, even given my considerable experience driving in Italy. Don't bring a car unless you are comfortable driving on narrow roads and streets with aggressive drivers.
  • We did find parking regularly about 200 yards down the road around a curve, but not on weekends and it was always stressful to know if we would have a place and whether it was truly legal.
  • The buses run regularly and are a good way to get around.
  • We suggest the beach at the Marina di Praiano even if it is a bit farther to walk, and you must walk mostly down the busy main road to get there. The other main beach, although not as nice in our view, can be reached by a pleasant walkway down from the main road instead of walking on the main road.
  • There is a small grocery store just below the apartment that is convenient and run by a friendly woman (also Angela) and her husband. There is a somewhat larger grocery store up the hill in the upper part of Praiano. It is about a 15 minute walk up a steep hill.
  • Internet is available at an Internet cafe a short walk from the apartment, but we discovered that the Hotel Le Fioriere a little further down on the right has a weekly wireless rate for non-guests for 15 euros. Pleasant surroundings and cheaper in the long run if you use the Internet very often.
  • For a trip to Capri, we recommend Positano Boats, which has an office in Praiano by the church. It was a bit more expensive, but leaves from Praiano and was enjoyable.

April 2011 - Overall an excellent and clean apartment in a fantastic location.

Praiano has the advantage of being much less "touristy" than Positano or Amalfi and so it feels a lot more peaceful, relaxed and authentic! There is an excellent restaurant just across the road ("Hosteria il Pino") which offered delicious food - with some unexpected complimentary extras - and excellent service. Directly beneath the apartment is a very well stocked shop with lots of local produce and wine, and if you take the steps down to the sea opposite the department you come to a secluded old harbour - perfect for sunbathing and reading!

The apartment itself was great - minor issue with temperamental hot water - and the view from the balcony is first class.

The owner doesn't speak much English at all - not a problem for us and it wouldn't be a major issue!

Many thanks!

Travel tips

  • We arrived at the apartment from Amalfi on the SITA bus service which runs up and down the Amalfi coast. Just be aware that it can get very busy! Trying to get on the bus at Amalfi was extremely disorganised and somewhat of a crush. It was difficult to ask where to get off but we managed ok and had small suitcases, but if you've got big luggage it might be more tricky. Don't let it put you off - just be forewarned!

June 2010 - Casa Mafalda was wonderful. The owner met us at the bus-stop when we arrived and showed us around the apartment which was surprisingly spacious. Everything was clean and very tidy. The view from the balcony was truly magnificent and we ate out there every evening. We shard that area with the owner's sister and family. This wasn't a problem. They were friendly but never obtrusive. One evening they gave us apricots warm from the terrace sunshine... gorgeous

The only thing we never could get right was the shower... had a mind of it's own and just when I thought I had it sorted the water would turn cold again or it would get too hot...

May 2010 - We enjoyed Casa Mafalda. The apartment was fine and we had everything we needed. It had comfortable seating, good kitchen, bathroom fine, laundry facilities. The only negative was that the bedroom felt damp at times but the window could be opened which helped. Otherwise it was a great location, Praiano is a lovely place, the walk to the beach fabulous, we had a terrace with a great view, a well stocked grocery store below us, friendly neighbors, not too touristy.

We had no trouble finding a place to park the car along the roadway.

Close to nice restaurants, shops, Internet cafe.

We felt we got an affordable place which seemed, in advance to have everything we needed. It is always a gamble when you got to a place sight unseen but it worked out well.

Travel tips

  • We loved the walk to the beach down 400 or more steps. Beautiful flowers, cacti, lemon tress, olive trees, the beach rocky but the water very clean and clear and good for swimming. Nice restaurants, one at the beach level with a lovely terrace.
  • We toured around to various towns but also just enjoyed Praiano itself. Marina della Praia is another good spot to swim and eat.
  • The drive up to Ravello well worth it. Beautiful place and the walk out to Villa Cimbrone incredible.

May 2010 - We enjoyed Casa Mafalda quite a lot.

You have wonderful service and a very clear and easy to navigate website. Thank you for all the information and help with the apartment we rented. We will definitely consider your website again for our next holiday apartment in Italy.

Travel tips

  • If you have a car, you can park it on the main road between the big pine tree and the tunnel (near the bus parking lot)
  • the first 50 meters or so of parking is for residents only. This parking area is about 150 meters from Casa Mafalda and the meeting point where you meet the owner of the apartment. We recommend NOT driving your car during your stay, because parking in any of the villages along the coast is very difficult and parking garages (if you can find them) are expensive (4+ euros an hour). There are several local buses you can use instead to get around which are pretty reliable.
  • All the necessities you can find in the small shops, which are only a a minute or two by foot from the apartment(groceries, bus tickets, maps, etc).
  • The hot water in the apartment does not function well at all. We wasted a lot of time (and water) trying to find the right temperature for the shower, only to lose it 30 seconds later. Hopefully you will have more luck than we did.
  • Overall, we enjoyed our stay there very much.

April 2010 - Casa Mafalda was everything we expected it to be.

It wasn't anything fancy, but we were not paying for anything fancy. The apartment was clean and convenient to everything. There was a small grocery with a very friendly owner just a few steps away with other stores, restaurants, Internet cafe, and butcher shops just down the street. Also the tourist office and SITA bus stop were nearby. This was a great base to travel to the other Amalfi towns and return to our apartment for our diner with locally purchased food.

Although it was located on the main road, the apartment was set back in the hill sufficiently so you did not get the outside traffic noise.

There was a small outside table which was actually part of the shared balcony with the friendly custodian and family (no small kids).

We were very happy with Summer In Italy. In fact we ran into another couple who had used you several times and were also very pleased.

March 2010 - We loved staying in Casa Mafalda. Lovely apartment. It is large, clean and has an excellent location and view.

I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay on the Amalfi coast.

Keep up the good work, Summer in Italy. You not only provided us with excellent accommodations, but were very helpful with our questions prior to our vacation. We booked with Summer in Italy on the advice of our travel agent.

Travel tips

  • If you are there when heat is needed, as we were, turn off one of the heaters before you use the washer or a hair dryer. We tripped the circuit breaker a couple of times before we figured this out.
  • The bus stop is very close by. The buses run to all the other towns along the coast on a frequent basis. Use them to visit Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento, etc.
  • We enjoyed the San Gennaro restaurant.
  • Make sure you visit Pompeii while there. Take the bus to Sorrento and then the train to Pompeii. The entrance to the ruins are just a few hundred feet from the train station.
  • Also, plan a ferry trip to Capri, which we caught from Sorrento due to the time of the year we visited (March).

October 2009 - Overall we had a very nice stay.

The negatives: shower runs boiling hot or ice cold and nothing in between, living room furnishings consist of a dilapidated couch and a coffee table, some noise from other apartments.

The positives: great view, good kitchen, great view, friendly neighbors (sister of owner), great view, good location for access to buses and basic stores, did I mention the great view?

I'll gladly recommend you to friends and will visit your site in the future.

Travel tips

  • We walked every day of our 2-week stay, but one must be in shape - there is no such thing as a flat walk, it's up or down, usually with steps, hundreds of them.

September 2009 - Casa Mafalda is a lovely place in a lovely setting. We had a great time.

Restaurants and shops near by. Parking which I thought might be an issue was fine. Perhaps a bit noisy at times as the apartment is one of 4 or 5 and Italians can be quite vocal when they want to be. :)

Also there are not many steps to get your luggage inside compared with many other villas we saw.

Summer In Italy has an excellent service, presentation and support. The best I have ever dealt with and I shall be back!

Travel tips

  • The buses get crowded so leave early. Also they are never on time and can be up to 10 mins early.
  • Even if the weather is not fine, the property is comfortable.

September 2009 - We enjoyed the peace and quiet of Casa Mafalda compared to the hustle and bustle of Sorrento and all the traffic. Our hosts were very pleasant. I am sorry we did not speak Italian to communicate more fully with them!

We enjoyed having a kitchen and also the market right there in case we did forget something!

Both Angelas were fun to talk to. We enjoyed the figs and tomatoes from their garden. We will miss everyone that we came in contact with.

Travel tips

  • There is only 1 BBC channel if you want English speaking TV.
  • Everything was close by. Even if you are tired, the shops are only steps away.
  • The church is beautiful.
  • It does take a while to get down to the beach, so be prepared to walk.
  • The buses were not so reliable. That was our only problem.
  • We of course enjoyed our trips to Amalfi, Ravello, Positano, Pompeii, and Sorrento. All available by bus. We even went to Naples by bus.
  • Pizzeria San Genaro did not give us our change back until we asked for it. They also ask if a medium portion is OK. Then they charge you an extra 2,50 E for the portion. It is handwritten in the menu, but hard to distinguish. Food is great.

August 2009 - This is arguably the most beautifully decorated flat I have ever stayed in with stunning tiles.

Even by the normally very high cleaning standards of Italy this excels. Very nice, hard bed, spacious living-room and everything needed for living including a washing machine. As a curiosity the two air-conditioners were the first air-conditioners I ever encountered that actually not only worked - but responded to all adjustments. The only negative was the shower which had two positions only: scolding hot or soo cold. Extremely friendly owner and her sister (next door neighbour) made us feel at home. Also - the advertised shop IS right next door (and great people too).

The view on Positano and Capri at night is quite romantic.

HIGHLY recommended.

As a long time friend of Italy and the usual very high service I was nevertheless positively surprised by your website and the seamless nature of the booking, payment and subsequent stay. I will recommend you as will I the limo services of Mr. Lucibello, whom you linked us to. Thank you for making our holiday a great one.

Travel tips

  • Quite a few books available in various languages including Finnish, Spanish and English.
  • Hikers will find many trails in the mountains. Some fairly easy ones depart from Amalfi.
  • Don't bring a car. Buses are usually a little late but not always so be there early.
  • In August (even this year with less than average number of tourists) the road in front of the house is very congested at times. Also, local (open air) markets are closed in August.

August 2009 - Casa Mafalda is situated in the small hamlet of Praiano. It's a beautiful clean apartment overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea and Positano Bay.

The neighbours and local residents are friendly and very accommodating.

We've enjoyed our 7 day sojourn.

Detailed information concerning Casa Mafalda and how to get there were excellent. We would not hesitate to contact or to recommend Summer in Italy for a vacation in Italy.

Travel tips

  • If you plan to go to Praiano, travel by public transit SITA bus from Sorrento or local bus. Travelling by car is not recommended. Roads are too narrow and winding and no place to park!

May 2009 - We enjoyed our stay very much. The view is fantastic and the sister's owner who was our neighbor is very kind and thoughtful.

We stayed for two weeks and travelled by Sita bus and it was very easy and convenient.

The kitchen could be more equipped with tools for cooking but we managed with what we had.

The terrace is always in full sun so, they could install a parasol for those who like some shade some times.

It was 2 weeks of pure joy because the temperature was beautiful and the views fantastic.

Thank you!

Travel tips

  • Shops for alimentation and butcher are nearby, some feet from the casa.
  • Sita bus is at right the end of the 30 steps from Casa to the road.
  • There are many good restaurants in the village of Praiano.
  • The view of Positano at night from the terrace is magic. And the view of the sea and the boats each morning, was delightful.
  • It's easy to go to Amalfi, Positano, Maiori, Ravello, Sorrento or Capri is very easy by bus and by boat.

May 2009 - We really enjoyed our stay, Casa Mafalda was very nice and clean.

The accommodation was very comfortable and the location was good with a great view. Of all the places we stayed in Italy this was the nicest.

The owner was very nice and accommodating.

If we were to travel again in this area I would consider staying here again.

I have said this in the past but I would like to say it again it was a real pleasure dealing with everyone at Summer In Italy we would definitely use your services again and highly recommend you to our friends.

Travel tips

  • Relax and enjoy the town you are staying in. The location is central to the Amalfi coast towns and buses have schedules but they are not always accurate.
  • Enjoy the wild bus rides! From this location is easy to reach all the major sites including Pompeii.
  • We took a boat tour to Capri with L'Uomo e il Mare, the booking stand is in Positano, very reasonable and informative. Beautiful to see the coast line by boat.

May 2009 - This was a week's holiday booked totally on guesswork and Internet recommendations - and it turned out to be fabulous.

The village itself is smaller than those nearby but still very charming and with a handful of very good places to eat and drink.

The villa itself was just what we needed - no frills, but very good size, clean and comfortable, with space to sit outside for breakfast.

The real highlight of this place was the people, without doubt. The friendliest people - both the owners and the locals - always offering "Buongiorno!", or biscotti, even dashing out to offer an umbrella when it rained.

On all count - the area, the villa, the people - I could not recommend it more.

Travel tips

  • Be ready for hilly terrain, and that the beach is a bit more than a step or two away.
  • The pizzeria opposite the villa is a great spot, and if you can be bothered to walk it, the fish restaurant down the steps leading to the beach is pricey but fabulous and very romantic.
  • Day trips: Positano was the top of the list, with a great beach, bars, restaurants and shops. Ravello is good for escape and quiet. And Capri - amazing walks.

April 2009 - We've just returned from a 3 week trip to Italy, one of those weeks was spent at Casa Mafalda in Praiano. We had an amazing time, thoroughly enjoying ourselves. We were close enough to enjoy Sorrento, Positano and Capri.

We were looking for a week of relaxing, doing a few day trips and getting to know the Italian people. We were not disappointed, Praiano and it's people will be a special memory for us. Not much English is spoken, but we didn't find that to be a problem, the people were all so friendly and gracious.

Make sure if you stay to visit with the grocers downstairs, Angela and Salvatore, great folks with true Italian charm. And we had such a wonderful time visiting with the neighbors, Angela and Britta, they both were such caring people and a joy to talk with.

We look forward to one day returning.

Summer in Italy was the right decision for us and we will be telling our friends and checking out the available accommodations for future trips. Thank you.

Travel tips

  • The hot water was a bit tricky, as I understand most homes in Italy are. We adjusted, but just be warned, it took a while to warm up, not like in a motel.

July 2008 - Casa Mafalda was a lovely apartment. The position of the room was excellent as a base for exploring the Amalfi Coast.

The owner and her family were so friendly and welcoming.

The view from the terrace was unforgettable.

Importantly the apartment was always cool despite us staying in mid July. Even though air conditioning was in the bedroom and kitchen we never really needed to use it. Unlike many apartments in Praiano, the access to the apartment did not involve many steps, it was just above the main road through Praiano in a perfect spot.

Angela, who is the owner's sister and lived next door would bring us figs, cucumbers and gave us a piece of her homemade cake. We felt as though we were living alongside people going about their everyday life in the village. Very authentic and away from the other more touristy places on the Amalfi Coast.

We never cooked in the apartment but everything you require to do so was provided.

The whole place was spotlessly clean! In fact it would be hard to find fault with Casa Mafalda in any other way. It was a pure delight to have found this place. We enjoyed our stay here immensely.

Would recommend your website to anyone. I found your correspondence to be always clear and concise. There was no difficulty in following procedures. Again you helped to make our holiday a thoroughly enjoyable one. Thank you.

March 2008 - Casa Mafalda was the perfect place for my husband and me to spend a week with our 12 year old son. It was nice not to be in an overwhelmingly touristic village, but yet to be within easy day-trip distance of everywhere we wanted to go.

Despite an unseasonably cool and wet week, we had a great time with walks to the two nearby beaches (our son returned home with lots of rocks and little shells), and trips to Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, Paestum, Sorrento, etc. The buses were very convenient.

The apartment was very functional for us. If we had had better weather, we would have undoubtedly spent a lot of time on the veranda. The view from the veranda was spectacular, always changing with weather and different times of the day.

Praiano is a beautiful village, laid-back and more relaxed than neighboring towns.

I have already told several friends to use your service! We found it very helpful!

Travel tips

  • Go down to the local tourist office in Praiano, and ask lots of questions. They can give you lots of details on local walks and things to do.
  • As car-dependent Americans from the Motor City, we had been very hesitant deciding NOT to rent a car. Now, we would advise anyone going there NOT to have one. The driving on the coastal road is a nightmare which is much better left to the bus drivers. Parking is non-existent in most places, and we would have definitely found having a car to be more trouble than it was worth. There are passes available which are good for several days.

March 2008 - Casa Mafalda was the perfect place. The view is even better than the pictures show. It is truly a million dollar view. There is no better place to sit and have a glass of wine and the view.

Everything is close by: stores, restaurants, bar, scooter rental. People are great and very helpful and friendly.

The place was an unbelievable place especially for the price. It was clean, comfortable, and convenient location. I would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone that is coming to the Amalfi coast and plans on visiting other towns close by like Positano and Ravello.

Summer in Italy made planning this whole trip easy and hassle free. I would highly recommend this site to anyone visiting Italy. I will definitely becoming back to visit Casa Mafalda soon. Angela and all the family were so great and so helpful. Thanks again to Casa Mafalda and Summer in Italy.

Travel tips

  • Make sure to learn and know the bus schedules and which stops to get picked up at.
  • I would highly recommend renting a scooter it possible and there is a place right next to San Gennaro Restaurant.
  • Also make sure to go shopping early or plan on shopping later in the evening since stores close around midday.

October 2007 - Really excellent location to enjoy the Amalfi coast away from the crowds of Positano and Amalfi, yet only a short bus ride away.

Our apartment could not have been more convenient with the bus stop just a few steps away and an Alimentari at your doorstep.

Special thanks to Agata, Angela and Mama for their kindness, hospitality and especially for the tasty fresh figs from their garden. They treated us like family. Very nice people.

Everything went well. No problems with reservations or payment. Communications and directions were complete and helpful.

We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend Casa Mafalda

August 2007 - Casa Mafalda was incredible! It was the most adorable apartment and was perfect for us.

June 2007 - The family who owns Casa Mafalda was very nice and hospitable, though there was a language barrier, we were still able to communicate to some degree.

The only concern was that the shower was either scalding hot or ice cold, but that kind of thing was to be expected.

The view was beautiful and area was quiet. It was nice not to be right in a "touristy" area.

The food at the restaurant that the family worked at was amazing and the service was excellent.

Travel tips

  • Bring extra towels as the humidity did not allow the towels to fully dry in a day.
  • Definitely eat at the La Gavitella. The service and quality of food was amazing. Further, the pizza at Restaurant La Brace was the best that we had ever had.
  • We loved sitting on the beach at the La Gavitella as well and walking through the town.
  • Ensure that you are in good physical condition to do the stairs if going to the beach and bring good walking shoes.
  • Do not keep a car if possible as it is not needed with the bus system and you will likely have to park far away. Further, there is a good chance that the car could be damaged.
  • The "lemon shop" (cannot remember the exact name) in Positano was amazing and we bought a lot from there.
  • Positano is a nice place to visit for a bit to shop around, but if you are looking for a more quiet getaway, Praiano is the place to stay. Further, the small markets to go grocery shopping in Praiano have very fresh produce and are very friendly.
