June 2013 - Casa Genziana is a delightful property, all the better for few other residents while we were there!

A really good holiday, with an excellent pool and gardens, and woodland walks outside.

Very good service. We shall certainly use you again.

Travel tips

  • A good supermarket is on the way in to Sinalunga.
  • Good restaurants in Lucignano.

June 2013 - Absolutely beautiful! It looks even better than the pictures on the web site. The grounds are amazing. Wish we could have spent more time at the villa but we had the rest of Tuscany to see!

You guys did good. You kept me informed before we went which made me feel comfortable. Everything went perfectly on our entire vacation in Italy: what more can a guy ask for!!!

Travel tips

  • Montepulciano and Radda in Chianti were nice. So is Cortona.
  • We certainly enjoyed the wine and cheese and it's true the wine is cheaper than water!!

October 2012 - I loved Casa Genziana. The complex consists of a villa divided into 4 apartments and a separate guest or caretakers' house where I stayed for about 10 days in Oct 2012.

The owner, Ms Michela, is very accommodating and speaks good English, having lived in Rochester, NY, for 3-4 years as a child.

My apartment was beautiful. The kitchen-living room window opens onto a spacious grassy yard with large pool and forested view. With the windows open, the mid-day sun and outside temp warms the living areas and, when closed, retain the warmth over night; with the windows closed, the entire apartment maintains a fairly even, comfortable temp, even when much cooler outside; doors in the house are solid oak with brass hardware; the yard is beautifully maintained; facilities include a shared hot tub, barbecue grill, kids play area, covered lounge area with cushioned furniture, washer/dryer; as is typical in Italy, trash must be carried out to communal dumpster, which is about 1 km.

This place is far from any town (5 km to Lucignano). You must travel a gravel road about 1 km to the house but this remoteness adds to its charm. You are really in the country. For me, the best part was being close to a major super highway (8 km to A-1). From there, I could get to many very interesting places in central Italy in less than 1 hour. In fact, my main reason for selecting this villa was its proximity to winding roads of which there are many once you leave the autostrada.

July 2010 - We had a fantastic time at Casa Genziana E. So peaceful and serene.

Went to the Il palio in Siena which was a highlight.

Great work guys. Fantastic arrangement for payment, directions to the apartment, and finally a beautiful, peaceful place! Thank you!

Travel tips

  • Watch the key!!! Don't leave it on the inside when you go outside and pull the door behind you. If you do you will have to wait... we did and wished we didn't.

August 2009 - Casa Genziana E can best be described as a 'little piece of heaven on earth'. From the moment we arrived and saw the beautiful well kept grounds and the azure blue swimming pool, we knew we would enjoy ourselves, but more was to come!

Casa Genziana E was cosy, and full of character and so very much a 'home' more than a holiday rental property. So much thought had been given to the furniture and accessories (even down to lovely bathrobes to use in the bathroom). To begin the day eating at the lovely little private outdoor setting was such a pleasure.

Still more was to come when we drove into the village of Lucignano and discovered the pretty little streets and fabulous restaurants. We spent most evenings there, strolling around enjoying the cheery greetings from the local people, having a pre-dinner drink in the lively little bars and then choosing which restaurant to dine in. I must say Rocco's was a firm favourite, followed by a delicious ice cream from the gelateria.

Finally, I would like to thank Summer in Italy for all their help with bookings, information etc. and rest assured we will most definitely be going to Italy again and will continue to book through your company. Thank you so much (and please extend our grateful thanks to the owners of lovely Casa Genziana E).

Travel tips

  • Lucignano is full of great restaurants and two lively bars but if you choose to eat at home, there is supermarket stocked with lots of good food. On our last day we shared the lovely BBQ wood-fired BBQ with all the other guests who were staying at Casa Genziana E and the meat from the supermarket was great (as was the red wine we washed it down with)!
  • Don't forget to hang your key on the handy little nail beside the front door when you all go out to the pool (it will save you from having to climb through the bathroom window to get back in as we had to do!).
  • Phone coverage is best (and most consistent) if you climb up the slope beside the house.
  • Montepulciano is not to be missed - climb up to the highest point and go into the public building for a panoramic view - magnificent. Similarly Siena and Cortona are lovely places to visit (by the way, Bramasole, the house used in Under the Tuscan Sun) is apparently called Casa Lara and is on a different road to Francis Mayes' own house (ask at the tourist board if you really want to see it and they will point you in the right direction!).

June 2009 - We had a very good experience and a terrific holiday.

We were fortunate to have the whole of the property to ourselves which meant we had exclusive use of all the facilities including the swimming pool. We also had good weather apart from one day when there was a lot of rain including a thunder storm.

The property is of a high standard and is well maintained. The gardens are beautiful.

Michela [the owner] is very supportive but unobtrusive and the fact that she speaks such good English was a bonus to us.

This is the second time we have been with you and the arrangements worked very well.

Travel tips

  • Good shops at Sinalunga, especially Coop.
  • Lucignano has a good selection of restaurants and Snoopy's is great for gelati.

May 2009 - We had a marvelous time, most notably because the grounds are in and of themselves so beautifully kept. We used the grill, our kitchen, ping pong table, and pool. The price is just right for an affordable idyllic vacation in the countryside.

We were very warmly welcomed and well treated. Michela [the owner] made us feel right at home.

I have some interest if we'd ever be able to return, in checking out the other units. Our bedroom had less sunlight as it was on a lower level. But that is truly my only mild dissatisfaction in an otherwise perfect stay. We are already recommending this place to others.

All the communication with Summer In Italy was very friendly, prompt, courteous, and professional. Thank you for helping us have a terrific time on our once in a lifetime kind of getaway!

Travel tips

  • We really enjoyed a bike ride in the valley, using the free mountain bikes from Casa Genziana E.
  • It took us 2 hours to drive to Montalcino, which we loved, but just so you know it's slow going on the beautiful hilly roads.
  • Lucignano was a lovely town, all decked out in May for the Maggiolata (historical festival of the town).
  • Sinalunga had a big grocery store - the COOP in a mall.

May 2009 - We had a great time and were very happy with this place.

The cottage was very lovely and nice, and the kitchen had all the cooking utensils--perfect for a couple.

It was also very conveniently located near other towns like Lucignano which has some good eating places.

The landlady Michela was very friendly and helpful.

We would strongly recommend this place.

Travel tips

  • It requires a car to get around.
  • Be careful not to leave crumbs around as it will attract ants.

October 2008 - We enjoyed it very much.

The cottage is quaint but small and the bedroom though lovely has a "basement" atmosphere because of its downstairs location. Nevertheless, very comfortable but for no more than two adults...

Travel tips

  • Bring a GPS to be able to find your way around the vicinity. Road signs are confusing.

July 2008 - We were thrilled with our stay at Casa Genziana E. It was more beautiful than we expected.

We enjoyed hanging around the pool and garden area almost as much as sightseeing the nearby hill towns.

It was near perfect and I'm not an easy sell. My wife and I had a truly peaceful trip and didn't feel rushed because the surroundings were so comfortable.

I was most impressed with the kind and considerate service your company showed us. And, our casa was as good as promised.

Travel tips

  • Sinalunga is the nearest town with a large, market with so-so produce. We sought out the weekly farmers market there for some better produce. And a fun experience.
  • Don't miss the closest hill town Lucignano. Very small, but we had the best meal we've had in Italy at Il Goccino. Call ahead for balcony seating.
  • There aren't many walk-to cafes around, so bring breakfast foods you can prepare in the kitchen.

May 2008 - Casa Genziana E was a real pleasure. The facilities were marvellous, and we felt like a million dollars while we were there.

We have no complaints, and would like to compliment Michela [the owner] on her beautiful establishment.

For 6 of the 7 nights we were there we were there alone and we very much enjoyed our evenings by the pool looking up at the medieval village above us and hearing the church bells mark the passing of time.

The rental fee was probably the only item of any significance that we had to pay in advance. We are pleased that we did because the accommodation was outstanding.

We had been recommended to Summer in Italy by previous satisfied customers and we are happy to do the same.

Travel tips

  • We ate on two nights at La Rocca at a nearby town, Lucignano. The meals were very nice but the service was not particularly friendly.
  • Do not fail to go to Siena and leave yourself quite a lot of time. It is a pleasure to just sit in the Piazza del Campo.

October 2007 - Even with the pool closed, we really enjoyed ourselves at Casa Genziana E. We were looking for a place where we could relax and have a little taste of Italy and we really hit the jackpot.

Very well maintained, this villa is a peace of heaven on hearth, a nice place to clear your spirit just by looking at the beautiful garden.

The house was awesome and everything was perfect.

I really recommend this villa to anyone that wants to stay within 2 hours of Rome.

We had no surprise when we got to the villa, your web site had a lot of information and we had no problems finding the place. Thanks.

Travel tips

  • The town just before the highway exit [Sinalunga] is the place you want to stop for shopping. They have a mall and everything you can look for.

December 2006 - Casa Genziana E was an oasis. We loved every moment of our stay there. The gardens were lovely and we went for hikes and runs in the adjacent conservation area each day - it was truly beautiful.

The access to the main highway from Florence was very convenient as was the location relative to Montalcino and other parts of wine county.

Michela [the owner] was incredibly welcoming and friendly - she made us feel right at home and that the Casa was truly "ours" for our stay.

Travel tips

  • Although fire wood is provided you need to get your own kindling in order to start the fire - which is a must have at night!

October 2006 - We greatly enjoyed Casa Genziana E. The setting, located in a 17 acre parcel, is beautifully and lovingly landscaped and presents very attractive views in every direction.

The farmhouse is edged by forest lands with hiking paths and there are bicycles available for use.

The Casa itself is extremely comfortable and well appointed.

The owners, who speak excellent English, are very warm and friendly, and they have done everything possible to make their guests feel welcome. They provided all necessities and even had lovely spa terrycloth robes and slippers waiting for us.

Although public transportation is nearby, a car is really the way to go. The property is very close to main roads and is 5 km from the lovely walled, hill town of Lucignano which has some great restaurants and is off the tourist track and 6 km from Sinalunga which is a good town for food shopping and other necessities. Exploring Tuscany and also Umbria is very easy from this spot.

We would certainly return to it and have very lovely memories.

June 2005 - We received a wonderful warm welcome from Michela [the owner]. She was very helpful to us and made our holiday perfect. We enjoyed the Christening Party we had been invited to and were we honoured to be asked.

The garden and pool, the building itself make Casa Genziana E the perfect place to stay.

It is a big step to trust the whole of your holiday arrangement to the internet, but the site was reassuring and the email contact with your staff was brilliant. We are very grateful for all the advice we received. Our queries were promptly answered with helpful suggestions and it all helped to make our holiday a success. The local knowledge was invaluable. We will definitely recommend Summer in Italy and will use you again. Many thanks.

March 2005 - The moment we arrived at Caza Genziana E we felt completely relaxed. It was very quite and cozy, perfect for a second honeymoon!

We very much enjoyed the fireplace and loved being able to cook meals in the villa. We also made many road trips from Caza Genziana E, which was perfect because it was pretty much centrally located to every place we wanted to go!

Michela [the owner] was very friendly, a gracious host!

You guys at Summer In Italy were perfect! We loved your dinner recommendation... "La Rocca" was fabulous!!!

Thank you so much!

If you happen to be near Lucignano, do not miss eating at Restaurant La Rocca... it's delicious!
