June 2023 - We had an excellent stay here. Close to everything in Sorrento.

The hosts were excellent and more than accommodating, even picking us and all of our luggage at the train station even though it took two trips.

The place is very clean and they even stocked some groceries for us. Would definitely stay here again. Grazie!

Travel tips

  • We loved watching all the newlyweds leaving the church next door.

September 2022 - The view in the photo is from the front balcony - stunning! The back has a shady courtyard like a personal oasis. The front was busy during the day, great for people watching but the doors and shutters ensured peace at night. We had everything we needed at the apartment, just like "home from home". The harbour was a few steps away via a lift and the beautiful old town with a maze of alleys and interesting shops, restaurants and cafes was on our doorstep.

The owners were there to greet us and couldn't be more helpful - we could text them for tips too (nothing was too much trouble for them). Lovely people, so attentive with everything. They were there to greet us and carry our cases up the short flight of steps. They showed us the apartment. Air conditioning and had even set the TV in the kitchen for us on the BBC news! The fridge had supplies of milk, water, butter and other items and the cupboards had some provisions for those who may want to cook - plus cleaning materials. They came to say goodbye and helped co-ordinate our taxi to the airport. Throughout the stay, they were there if we needed them.

The Summer In Italy team were excellent at answering our emails and questions prior to the trip and just before we arrived re drop off. Everyone has been so helpful and pleasant - thank you so much for helping to organize such a memorable holiday!

Travel tips

  • Wonderful week and apartment in a perfect location!
  • Amazing selection of restaurants and those recommended by the owners were superb.
  • We did Pompeii, Capri, Amalfi Coast and a trip by boat around Sorrento. We booked with a tour company next to the station and it was all really good.
  • The Marina Grande fishermen's harbour a 15 minute walk around the next bay was lovely.
  • We especially enjoyed a trip on a smaller boat around the Sorrento Coast, with two lovely Italian men to look after us!

A perfect place from which to base our stay in Sorrento

May 2022 - We are retired ladies who found Casa Doretta to be a perfect place from which to base our stay in Sorrento. The location is excellent, close both to the elevators/ramp down to the beach and port area, as well as to the town center.

The apartment was well supplied with everything we needed for our stay, linens, soap, shampoo, etc. We only needed to shop for groceries for our breakfast. The market was a short distance away just beyond Piazza Tasso.

The bedrooms and adjoining bathrooms were perfect for us. The beds were comfortable, bathrooms and showers spacious and well appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our meals. The only drawback to staying here is that there is no living room. If you are the type of traveler who spends a lot of time at your hotel/apartment and wants to have comfortable seating to relax after a busy day, this may not be the place for you. We had full days sightseeing each day we were there and this was not a huge issue for us. There is adequate seating in the kitchen and on the back terrace. In addition, be forewarned that you might be awakened by church bells and singing in the morning! It contributed to the ambience of being in Sorrento!

The owner and his lady friend were very accommodating, meeting us upon our arrival from the airport, helping us with luggage, providing ample maps and information about our location and sightseeing opportunities.

The description of the property sounded like it would be perfect for our group of single ladies traveling together. The location also sounded perfect as we would be walking to the train station several days for our visits to Pompeii and Naples. I found the booking process to be easy, with prompt replies to my questions.

Travel tips

  • We used the limousine service of Giovanni Lerusce. He had been recommended by a travel agent friend. He has lived in Sorrento for many years and took us on day tours of the Amalfi Coast and Paestum.

Casa Doretta is a 'must book' property

June 2019 - Casa Doretta is a 'must book' property. I simply can't recommend this place enough - Book it... You'll love it.

All of the bedrooms are really spacious, with great storage and all having double beds with an on-suite (which is more like a main bathroom in every room if I'm honest as they're a good size) and air conditioning in every room, which is easy to control. Everything was catered for... Hairdryer, plenty of towels, iron, extra blankets, umbrella for if it rained (it was 30 degrees when we went!). A bedroom replaces a main sitting area but believe me it doesn't impact on your enjoyment... We sat on the balcony most afternoons watching the street below from the kitchen. The kitchen itself has loads of stuff packed in to make your stay easier if you decide to cook, with a tv (which is also in each of the bedrooms too).

The apartment itself is practically next door to the cloisters where a multitude of weddings take place. These are lovely to watch... And if you have enough of people watching, simply close the shutters and internal doors (which are excellent by the way), and suddenly you have a lovely quiet atmosphere. These doors are amazing as they make bedrooms pitch-dark.

It a bustling street outside and you're right in the heart of the old town - you have so many restaurants, bars and gorgeous side streets on your door step... You don't need to walk for ages to see everything as you're simply a short stroll away from all the best bits of Sorrento. Less than 10 min walk from the train station to Pompeii; bus stop to take you to Positano, or harbour to get the boat to Capri. Next to the cloisters on the other side are gorgeous views of the sea and Mount Vesuvius, and this is where you'll find the steps to the small public beach and host of private beaches where you can hire sunbeds.

We were a family with two older children and can say that both us two adults and both kids loved the apartment. We're not people who like to lie around by a pool so this location was great giving us access to everything we needed, and we still managed to grab time most afternoons to quickly walk down to the sea and grab a swim so it really did tick all boxes.

Cristina and Vittorio, the owners, are amazing. They'd got water in for us, gave us some great information about the local area (even marking on a map the best places to go), made sure we knew how to use everything; leaving their contact number in case we needed them, and helped provide recommendations for restaurants and best ways to get to Capri and Pompeii. They are a lovely couple and we really enjoyed speaking to them. They are perfect hosts, so helpful and easy to get along with.

I'd definitely book with Summer In Italy again. It was our first trip abroad in 10 years and we loved every moment. Thank you!

Travel tips

  • You've great restaurants, bars and shops right on your doorstep.
  • If you can, go on a boat trip to Capri, Amalfi Coast or Positano. You get to see the coastline and to grab all those lovely postcard images.
  • Go to Pompeii - It's hot, really hot... So take water, sunscreen and a hat. It's so worth it and was my favourite trip. Set aside at least 4 hours when there to walk around, but you could take a whole day if you've the feet for it. We got the train which wasn't overpriced and took half an hour, and it has air-con which was bliss.
  • Go swimming in the sea - the water is lovely and so refreshing after the heat of the day.
  • People watch - The corner where the apartment is located is lovely. Grab a bottle of wine, sit on the balcony and watch the world go by - We did this most nights when we got in from our meal and we had to drag ourselves away to go to bed.

June 2019 - Our family of four enjoyed a 5-night stay at Casa Doretta last month - (June, 2019) - as part of a month long journey throughout Europe, and it was the highlight of our holiday!

Vittorio and Christina are gracious and generous hosts and greeted us like family!

The accommodations were spacious and comfortable and impeccably clean and the location is just perfect to explore Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. We loved being close to the center square but removed enough for peace and quiet.

This was our first time in Sorrento and we could not have made a better choice! We highly recommend Casa Doretta!

Working with Summer in Italy was fantastic -- (we just found you during a general internet search of rental apartments in Sorrento!) - and we sincerely appreciated all of your exemplary communication and assistance. It was a pleasure, and we hope to utilize your services again in the future.

Travel tips

The location couldn't be better

June 2019 - Casa Doretta fit our family of 6 people perfectly. Each bedroom having a full en-suite bathroom with shower was very convenient. The kitchen and the dinner courtyard served as our meeting places. Everything we needed was provided. The air conditioning worked perfectly during the unusually hot weather we had. The location couldn't be better. Steps away from the convenient lift to the beach and port and right in the heart of Sorrento's old town with lots of restaurants and shops right outside our door.

The hosts, Cristina and Vittorio, are wonderful. We loved everything about Casa Doretta and were sorry we had to leave after our week there.

Very professional service from Summer In Italy. Will definitely consider your service again on our next trip. Thank you for a terrific experience, start to finish.

Travel tips

  • Use the lift go to the beach or port.
  • Try Ristorante Sant'Antonino, Re Food, and Taverna dell'800, all within minutes of the house.
  • There is a wash and fold laundry service in old town, on Via Accademia.

Location is ideal

September 2018 - We enjoyed our stay at Casa Doretta. Location is ideal an easy walk to most areas in Sorrento. The apartment was clean and well stocked. There is no living room only a kitchen with a table. Bedrooms are spacious. Bathrooms very nice. I would stay there again.

Great price for the location and convenience of being within walking distance to everything, train and bus station, ferry boat station, main square, restaurants, shopping and beach. Internet access worked very well. It would be ideal if it had a washer and dryer but the laundry is within walking distance too.

Owners are very helpful in providing information on sights, ways to get around and restaurants. They responded immediately to every request we made and even picked up our laundry for us!

Summer In Italy was very easy to do business with. Directions and contact information was all perfect. All logistics worked out great. Thank you!

Owners were very friendly and helpful and live just a door away.

Loved my experience with Summer In Italy!

Travel tips

Around the corner is a breathtaking view of Naples bay, Sorrento harbor and Mt. Vesuvius. An easy stroll brings you to many restaurants, shops, quaint piazzas and the beauty of Sorrento.

Travel tips

  • We overlooked the lack of a living room in favor of the other strong amenities. As it turned out, gathering around the kitchen table with the big balcony doors open to daily Italian life was an unexpected gift.

Very good

September 2017 - We were 3 couples traveling in Italy and spent 3 nights in Casa Doretta in September. Great to find 3 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. The apartment was very clean and comfortable, great bathrooms, comfortable beds, the kitchen was a bit small for 6 adults but we were there only 3 nights. It is a perfect location, a few steps from shops, restaurants and sea. It is located on a busy road but once the good quality windows are closed, you don't hear anything. Overall a great place to stay.

The owners were very welcoming and accommodating arranging to meet us early to put our luggage in the apartment.

Summer In Italy was a very good company to deal with. Very helpful and easy to work with. Thank you!

Travel tips

  • Took a day trip to Capri with Tours of Capri company, ideal to do from this location. Just over an hour on the hydrofoil to reach Capri. Great company to deal with also.

Fantastic

September 2017 - We very much enjoyed Casa Doretta. The apartment was carefully chosen and suited our requirements exactly.

The accommodation was spacious and comfortable. The location was ideal for us within easy walking distance of all the places we wanted to visit in Sorrento. There were plenty of restaurants to choose from for our evening meals. We were able to walk to the station to visit Naples and Pompeii and to the harbour where we got the ferry to Naples and to Capri.

The owner met us on arrival and was extremely helpful. He provided lots of useful information to help us find our way until we became familiar with the area. On departure we were able to leave our luggage securely at the property until our time to go to the airport. The owner also organized a taxi to get to the airport. He could not have been more helpful or friendly.

We hope to return to Sorrento and will stay at Casa Doretta again.

Efficient and easy to book with Summer In Italy. Would definitely recommend to others and would use again.

Good

September 2017 - We enjoyed our stay in Casa Doretta. The one thing the apartment lacked was a living room but that was our mistake at the booking stage. Nevertheless we were quite happy with the property, its location, mainly, and the helpfulness of the owners. The terrace was a bit disappointing, though. The kitchen was very nice and was well stocked.

We were very impressed with the owner. Because we arrived mid evening in Napoli, we arrived quite late in Sorrento but he was there waiting for us with his wife and spent some time explaining everything to us.

We were very impressed with Summer In Italy. We had a number of questions we asked you at and after the booking stage and you were always quick and courteous in your replies. Well done!

Travel tips

  • Beware, there is no living room, just the kitchen.
  • The property is very centrally located and shops, main piazza and lift to the beach are all nearby.

June 2017 - Casa Doretta was the best for our family of two adult sons, and my husband and I. Three ensuited bedrooms is the best way to go!

This spotlessly clean, quiet apartment is located in a very well kept modernised building, and is within a central location with eateries and shopping. The bus and train is a ten minute walk away. It is a two minute walk to the elevators which take you down to the beach and ferries.

We booked from Australia and Luca was very prompt and helpful with our questions, before we left for our family reunion in Sorrento.

June 2017 - We loved staying at Casa Doretta.

The apartment was very clean, and had lots of extra little things - like laundry detergent, iron and some staple food supplies (oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, coffee, tea, sugar etc) - which came in handy when we wanted to eat in the apartment.

The location was perfect as it was right in the middle of Sorrento, just a short walk to the port, shops and restaurants.

May 2017 - Our week at Casa Doretta was the best part of our trip to Italy.

Beautiful well appointed kitchen with a balcony that overlooks a lively and charming intersection, perfect for people watching. Lovely tiled bathrooms and charming bedrooms. There is no living room but we did not miss it - the kitchen became our gathering place.

A small but welcome detail was the laundry rack on the terrace where we dried our hand washed items and made a trip to the laundromat unnecessary. There is also a large assortment of guide books for reference.

Vittorio and Cristina [the owners] were helpful and charming, giving us a great orientation to the town and our accommodations.

Travel tips

  • Casa Doretta is conveniently located near shops, restaurants and public transportation.
  • Home cooks should not miss the opportunity to shop for beautiful, fresh seafood, bread and salumi and prepare a few meals in the apartment.
  • For a five-star dining experience, Restaurant L’Antica Trattoria.
  • Great dinners at Restaurant Bagni Delfino in the marina and Restaurant Inn Bufalito.
  • The Corner Shop for wine and grappa.
  • Step out on the balcony with a glass of wine and enjoy the view and people watching.
  • Great hikes in the environs of Sorrento. Trail maps available near the main transpiration hub. You will need to take the bus to these destinations and be sure to clarify where your bus stop is (this can be confusing).
  • Day trips to Pompeii and Paestum.

August 2016 - Casa Doretta is outstanding in every way.

Two blocks from the town center, half a block from the ATM, a block from the steps leading to the beach and balconies that overlook the town's comings and goings.

The kitchen is large enough that all can share in the cooking (think Italian version of "The Big Chill") and is well equipped. A lovely outdoor table graces the greenly terrace.

The host is attentive and caring.

If you want everything in Sorrento for a reasonable price, Casa Doretta is for you! It certainly was for our family including two 16 year old boys!

Summer In Italy was incredibly helpful. Provided alternatives to apartments that were already taken. Checked in with us before during and after our stay. Easily and willingly gave us great tips on things to do. Offered advice on best and worst. Summer In Italy is a great partner when the area you are visiting is new and you need eyes and ears on the ground! Why shop anywhere else?

Travel tips

  • We enjoyed buying local produce and foods and cooking them in the spacious kitchen.
  • Take a couple of chairs with a small table and glass of wine out to the patio to people watch.
  • Use Circumvesuviana for the 25 minutes train ride to Pompeii.
  • For runners, lots of good running routes through the early morning town.
  • Da Filippo is a wonderful out of the way restaurant which provides transportation.
  • Stay in Sorrento. Visit Positano.
  • Rent a small boat from Capri to go around the island and swim wherever you like.

July 2016 - Casa Doretta is in a fantastic location, many bars and restaurants are seconds away. So you don't get absolute peace and quiet at the front but it was not a problem and you will also see the weddings from the church next door! There are shutters which keep out a lot of noise and the road is very narrow so the traffic is minimal.

The patio is in a small courtyard surrounded by flowers and small trees and is a peaceful haven - lovely to sit with a drink or two. The three very comfortable bedrooms have their own bathrooms which is a bonus. True there isn't a living room so you sit in the kitchen - open the doors, let the light flood in and people watch. We only ever had breakfast and the kitchen was very well equipped, more like a home than a holiday rental. Coffee, tea, condiments, etc. were all supplied so you only have to buy minimal provisions.

Vittorio [the owner] is very pleasant and helpful and gave us a guide around the immediate area. You feel nothing is to much trouble for him.

We loved Casa Doretta and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property.

June 2016 - Casa Doretta was the perfect place for my month in Sorrento.

The apartment is spacious, bright and well maintained, with an exceptionally well equipped kitchen. It has three roomy bedrooms, each with its own spacious bathroom. There's no living room, but we sat at the kitchen table or the cute outdoor patio table, and luckily, we had great weather so weren't inside that much.

The location is perfect. We wanted an in town location walk-able to everything and the apartment is in the center of everything. It has a charming street view. We were there in June and saw about three weddings a day from our kitchen window, since we were steps from a lovely park and church.

I loved to keep the windows open during the day, but at night I needed to close them because of street noise. The air conditioning was excellent, so that was fine.

I hope we can return soon, and highly recommend it!

Vittorio [the owner] is terrific -- he was helpful and responsive and a pleasure to deal with.

May 2016 - Casa Doretta was ideal for us as we were 3 couples. We each had our own private space with a bathroom.

The apartment was very well appointed. We used the kitchen to cook meals on several occasions and found most things we needed.

There is no living room but we didn't really miss it as we used the kitchen table or the outside area to gather in when we were 'home'.

The location is ideal; walking distance to everything.

We loved Sorrento.

Emails and questions were answered promptly and in a very friendly manner. We loved all the information and advice we received about Italy, especially the funny way it was presented. We think Summer in Italy is doing a fantastic job and if ever we are back in Italy, we'd be sure to use you and also recommend you to others. Thanks Luca.

Travel tips

  • We took the advice of Vittorio, the owner. He recommended shops and restaurants to use. He even walked us around town to introduce us to the butcher and bread shop owners and point out other places of interest.
  • We used a driver for a day trip along the Amalfi Coast. This can be done more affordably with the local bus but there were 3 of us sharing the cost.
  • We loved walking to the end of the street to watch the sunset over Naples.
  • Go into the cloisters of the church next door in the evening, it is lit up and quite beautiful and very peaceful.
  • Be careful when stepping out the main front door of the apartment as you are right on the busy road.

September 2015 - This property was wonderful, found it better than the pictures. We were two couples traveling together and there was more than enough room. The owner was also very accommodating getting us from the train station to the apartment, which was very well cared for and clean.

There is no living room, which we didn't miss a bit. Ended up gathering in the kitchen while preparing dinner or sitting on the patio. The balcony was also great, watching the many bridal couples arrive at the church next door.

Sorrento was a great choice, we originally targeted Amalfi, but this was a better choice, a lot to see and do and the location to the shopping, dining and views were right out our door.

Travel tips

  • We saw comments about the walk back up from the Marina area, these were really not challenging. There is a lift from the main marina and the older marina was lovely and not challenging to walk up if you are reasonably in shape.
  • We found two markets close by, really they were great for local wines. Also a fish market was just up the alley. Across the street the hotel lobby was very nice for a coffee and pastry in the morning.

June 2015 - Casa Doretta is a wonderful place to stay, right in the heart of town and within easy reach of the train and bus services, about 10 min walk so no car is required. We were a party of six and found we all liked our chosen bedrooms with en-suite bathroom.

We were met at the rail station by the owner who was very pleasant and informative. He even took the time to track down my brother in-law to one of the nearby bars in order to make sure he received his deposit back before leaving.

The only thing that would improve Casa Doretta would be a lounge area with comfy sofas, but it is no big deal as we all spent many an hour sat around the kitchen eating, drinking and watching the world go by outside. All in all a very nice place to stay. I would stay there again in a heartbeat and would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting Sorrento. Peace and quiet is average as Casa Doretta is on a busy street, but please don't let that put you off it is an asset, great people watching balcony.

Summer in Italy were absolutely great. They kept us informed and up to date with the booking procedure from start to finish. I felt we were being looked after by a very professional company. They also made sure we had plenty of contact numbers in case we needed anything day or night which I thought was very kind of them. I would also like to thank Luca personally for everything, he really gave us that one on one feeling. I would not hesitate to book with this company again and would highly recommend them to anyone. April 2015 - We were three couples in our 50's-60's from Philadelphia, PA. We were hoping for a convenient, comfortable location to experience Sorrento and serve as a base for touring the region. We got much more than we expected.

We loved the location - overlooking a city street so we could watch the locals as well as the tourists. For a city location it was quiet with the occasional vehicle at night and the church bells for effect. We felt like locals for the two weeks with every convenience within an easy walk and always felt safe, day and night. We didn't have a car and didn't miss it since we hired a car and driver to drive the coast.

The rooms were clean, large and plenty of privacy with the three separate, clean baths and all the hot water we needed. The kitchen was great, the six of us could squeeze in and we took several meals at the table in the courtyard. The owner was wonderful.

A great experience, we highly recommend it. Everything was well maintained and worked, even the wifi.

Very good experience, no complaints, highly recommend. Would definitely use Summer in Italy again.

Travel tips

  • It's not a high end hotel, it's a wonderful local flat. It's an old building but the electrical and plumbing systems, doors and windows are all new.
  • We never needed the heat or A/C, just opened the windows (April).
  • The few times we ran into the neighbors they were always very pleasant.
  • Suspect the area gets a bit crowded in high season.

November 2014 - We loved Casa Doretta. The owner was very attentive and for a nice touch he provided transportation from the train station for the 5 of us including our luggage free of charge. This was a nice touch.

All 3 bedrooms as well as bathrooms were very clean.

Many Thanks to Luca. I was given information in a timely manner and I much appreciate being able to pay by credit card in advance. This means that we do not have to carry as many Euros to pay the owner on arrival.

Travel tips

  • This is wonderful place to stay, but keep in mind that there is no living room so if you are a large group there is no place to gather except the very small kitchen. This would not be a big problem if you go in the summer because there is a very nice outdoor patio but we did not utilize it because we were there in November, rained almost every day. Due to others posting this info we knew this ahead of time and we would rather have the 3 bedrooms and 3 baths.

October 2014 - Excellent accommodation for our party of five - busy enough during the day to keep us interested - quiet enough at night.

There is no living room but we didn't miss it - kitchen was big enough to seat all of us when needed. Bedrooms and bathrooms are beautifully presented. Patio was fine although shaded. Kitchen was well enough equipped for our needs.

Very kind and thoughtful landlord.

We loved it and will return if we can.

That was our third trip to Italy booking with you and it wont be our last.

September 2014 - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Doretta. We found it very homely with very good quality fixtures and fittings, especially the bedroom with the antique furniture, if you like a softer bed this was the room to have.

It was in an excellent location a minute away from the lifts to the harbour. We were there for wedding in the cloister and I couldn't have booked a nearer place if I had tried. The cloister was so close I didn't find it for a few days!! It was just round the corner.

The owner was there to meet us on arrival and he was easy to get in touch with and very helpful even when we rang late at night to ask for advice on how to get to the local hospital.

Summer in Italy were excellent and I would book again, the communication was very reassuring and professional at all times.

Travel tips

  • We were very close to all the shops, and spent many an hour meandering around all the little streets, we had a lovely day trip to Capri and had a very enjoyable meal at the Garden cafe/restaurant which had an amazing view over the sea.
  • There are boat trips from Capri out to see the caves which some friends went on, it lasted a couple of hours and they enjoyed it.
  • We also went on the hop on and off open top bus around Sorrento which runs regularly, you meet the tour operator at the train station and it's a short walk to get to the bus, there are headphones giving you local history and information for most of on the trip with some background music in between. It was an ideal way to see the local area.
  • We had some lovely meals out and a trip to Pompeii was worth it, you can get on the local train to Pompeii and then pick up a tour to go round Pompeii.

July 2014 - We loved Casa Doretta. Vittorio [the owner] was there to meet us on arrival and leave us with information on the sights of Sorrento and surrounding areas.

The apartment is in a very good location close to shops, restaurants, transport and the sea. It was very comfortable and clean. If there was a downfall it was not having a couch to flop into after a long day sightseeing but it didn't bother us we enjoyed sitting at the kitchen table overlooking the street with a glass of wine watching the world go by.

Would stay here again.

June 2014 - We were a party of 6 adults and we were delighted with Casa Doretta.

The location in the town is excellent - everything you want is within easy reach - the overall standard of accommodation is very good and the owner, Mr Vittorio, is friendly and helpful.

This apartment is perfect if you want to soak up the atmosphere of Sorrento and explore the town, the stunning scenery and surrounding area on foot or by bus and train.

We have appreciated your services and will happily recommend you to others. When next we visit Italy it is likely to be with Summer In Italy.

Travel tips

  • You will find a butchers, bakery, fishmongers, fruit and veg stall, a small supermarket and shops galore all within 5 minutes stroll in the alleyways of the town.
  • There are many good restaurants to suit all budgets.
  • We found the local people to be friendly, polite and considerate.
  • Access to the beach and harbour is via nearby lift or steep cliff path and whilst beach facilities are generally private and expensive, there are free public areas.

April 2014 - We loved the Casa Doretta. From the moment we arrived we were pleased. It was exactly what it showed in the pictures and we were all happy.

Honestly the location is great! 2 minutes walk to get to the shops or the Main Square. And a bonus was that the lift to take us to the port was right outside the front door, couldn't be happier with the location.

Great place and I will surely be staying there again on our next visit!

I was very happy with the service that Summer in Italy gave me. I honestly will not book another vacation in Italy without choosing something from Summer in Italy. It is located in the perfect spot in town.

You can see the beautiful street from the terrace and a very short walk around the building is the most gorgeous view of the water.

March 2014 - Casa Doretta is well located (in the heart of Sorrento). It is in a quiet spot, with a good outlook down the street. It is very good condition and well set out.

The three bedrooms are excellent - very large and comfortable - each has its own high quality en-suite bathroom. Kitchen is large and well equipped. The kitchen is "eat in" and this is essentially your living area (there is no separate living/lounge area) but there is an outdoor courtyard area which is pleasant in warmer weather. No washing machine (we hand washed or used laundry in Sorrento). Very clean, well equipped and comfortable.

We loved our stay here and would recommend it to other travellers.

Summer-in-Italy were great to book with. At each stage we got good information and they answered our questions promptly.

Travel tips

  • This is a great spot. Very comfortable living and easy to settle in. Some basics were available and the supermarket near the rail station was the best (note: it is open 7 days but closes in the middle of the day like many things in Italy - reopens 4 pm).
  • You can walk to most local places and to the ferry and train.
  • We explored locally, went to Capri (well worth the day trip) and took day trips to both Pompeii and Herculaneum (by train).

October 2013 - We loved Casa Doretta. It was very clean and well-appointed.

Of course, the noise level was high due to it's position near the street but that's what we expected! Bedrooms were fine, the beds took a little time to get used to because of their firmness. Bathrooms were lovely.

October 2013 - We were 4 women. We loved the bedrooms which were very comfortable, very clean and with good storage. The bathrooms were very efficient and comfortable. There was always enough hot water for each of us and plenty of storage room for our toiletries.

The Casa Doretta was extremely clean. We were delighted with that. And the owners were extremely cooperative and attentive and willing to do anything to help us out.

The one drawback was the lack of a communal living room. But we sat in the small kitchen with the door to the small balcony opened to the exciting street below and we were happy to have a chance to watch Sorrento "in action". The location was wonderful!

July 2013 - FANTASTIC! BRILLIANT! Stayed here for 11 nights Starting July 5th 2013, and enjoyed it very much.

Although we had slight problems getting to sleep at the weekends due to noise in the street and round about, you could say we were going to bed too early about 23:00 - all that fresh air and excellent pizza with Italian wine tired us out. Certainly the streets were still busy with folk walking about until after midnight.

The apartment was excellent, lovely and clean, very good condition, everything worked, all 3 en-suite bathrooms were fine, all kitchen equipment worked fine (only used the fan oven twice), all air conditioning worked fine in all 3 bedrooms AND the kitchen, what a relief that was after visiting Pompeii, Herculaneum, Capri, Vesuvius. As many reviewers have noted, there is no living room, but only occasionally did we feel a couch might have been nice. While we were there we never sat out on the terrace, it was simply too hot, even though it was in shade. We did sit out on the kitchen balcony a few times, great for people-watching!

Signor Vittorio, the owner, was very helpful, his English was much better than my Italian, I phoned him, he agreed to meet us and let us into the apartment a couple of hours early, which was very helpful, meeting us off the hydrofoil from Napoli, and taking us up in the lift from the seafront - it comes out right beside the apartment :-) and he even paid for the lift (1 euro each, but he simply waved away my offer to pay - a true gentleman!).

Travel tips

  • Take a 5 min walk along the street you see from the kitchen window, you will find a FANTASTIC VIEWPOINT of the Gulf of Napoli and Vesuvius.
  • Go on the little tourist train, well worth the tour.
  • Find Gelati Raki (along the main shopping lane of limoncello and souvenir shops) and have a large ice cream cone with two flavours, perhaps coconut and coffee and hazelnut? We visited 4 times after dinner out, didn't waste our time with restaurant desserts but came here instead. BRILLIANT ICE CREAM!!!
  • Great place to stay if you like weddings - we saw about 9 over our 11 day stay, in the bedroom closest to the sea you hear the organ very clearly, but my daughter did not mind this!
  • If you don't like handwashing in kitchen sink, ask Signor Vittorio where the nearest laundrette is.
  • We liked Pizzeria L'Abate (just round the corner, 1 min walk away) and Aurora (up in main square, Piazza Tasso, 2 mins walk away).
  • Visit ruins at Pompeii (40 mins on Circumvesuviana train) and Herculaneum/Ercolano Scavi (60 mins) and take a day trip to Capri by jet boat, where you should go up to Anacapri where (if you have a head for heights) you should take the chairlift up to top of Monte Solaro.
  • Don't forget a boat trip on Capri to the Blue Grotto, takes a couple of hours for 3 mins inside the cave, but totally unforgettable. Take the funicular down from Capri, but take an open taxi from Anacapri down to Capri first, great views!
  • For days out at Pompeii, Ercolano or Capri, take good comfy shoes and bottles of water or you'll be sorry. Ercolano is better than Pompeii, much smaller, no tour buses, many things better preserved.

June 2013 - Excellent property. Very centrally located, couldn't be better. The owner, Vittorio, is extremely friendly and helpful. He arranged for parking and it was a pleasure dealing with him.

The property is made up to a very high standard. Only downside is that there is no living room (only kitchen with a dining table).

Very good

April 2013 - Location, Location, Clean and Helpful.

We stayed at Casa Doretta for 11 nights at the beginning of April 2013. Our group varied from 2-3 couples depending on the night. Casa Doretta has a great location in Sorrento. It is 1 blocks to the old town with its charming little alleys filled with restaurants and shops, less than a 5 minute walk to Piazza Tasso (main square in town), 10-15 minute walk to the train station (in addition to the trains this is where the buses to the Amalfi coast leave from, in addition there are buses to the Naples and Rome airports, and the Sorrento Hop on Off Tour bus) and about half way to the train station is a good sized supermarket and right around the corner from the apartment is the lift going to the port where all the ships come and go for Capri and the Amalfi coast.

The apartment is in a large building with other apartments, noise was not an issue. It consisted of three large bedrooms each with its own in suite bathroom, the bathrooms are good size for Italy and one is extremely large. It also has a small kitchen which is well equipped with everything you need to cook in. The front two bedrooms and kitchen have balconies overlooking the street where you can sit and enjoy the sun and people watching. Since the building is on a bend in the road you have a full view down the street. Each room including the kitchen has its own AC/heating unit. We felt very secure since there is a main keyed door on the street level, the 22 steps to a gate which we never locked leading to the apartment and terrace area and then the entrance door to the apartment. The back bedroom also had an entrance that could be used instead of the main entrance, we never used it. Since it was not summer yet we did not use the terrace which was in the back and had no view, it was OK but nothing special. The apartment was well stocked with toilet paper, soap, napkins, towels, linen and cooking utensils and supplies. Fresh towels and linens are supplied midweek.

Vittorio, the property manager, spoke excellent English and was very helpful in every way. We were arriving by rental car and called him a hour out and he was at the property to meet us, showed us where to park while we unload, which he helped us do. He helped us bring groceries and luggage up to the apartment. He explained the property to us and told us where the supermarket, train station and laundry where and answered our many questions about the apartment, and Sorrento area in general. Since we had time before the rental car agency opened he got in the car with us and gave us a quick tour of the city center and directed us to the rental car return location. At check out he was there promptly at our requested time, 5:30 AM, and took us and our luggage to the train station in his vehicle. We called him a couple of times with questions and he always responded in a timely manner, we had the feeling were not alone, he was always there if we needed him. Vittorio was very helpful and just a nice person.

The only cons we would have are that the apartment did not have a washing machine, however a self service laundry was a 10 minute walk. Parking is not provided which was not an issue for us. As mentioned in earlier comments the only common area is the small kitchen which with 6 adults can get crowded especially if you're cooking a meal with everyone in the kitchen. This was not a problem since we only cooked in once and just used the kitchen for breakfast, sandwiches and snacks, after all we are on vacation.

Bottom line is we would highly recommend Casa Doretta to anyone and especially those without a vehicle. The location is the best, the apartment is clean. bedrooms are large and the Vittorio is super.

February 2013 - Casa Doretta was AMAZING! Vittorio [the owner] was so helpful and the apartment is absolutely beautiful. Vittorio met us with a car at the train station. He recommended different delicious restaurants in Sorrento, and suggested someone who could take us on a tour of the Amalfi Coast.

The location, just off Piazza San Antonio, and steps from Villa Comunale, was perfect. We could walk do Villa Comunale and down to Marina Piccola in at most 10 minutes. We were so close to the historical center.

The apartment itself was gorgeous. It is decorated beautifully, with lots of wonderful inlaid wood. Each room is decorated differently, but all have their own bathrooms. Each bathroom had a rainfall shower and a towel warmer.

We had fresh squeezed orange juice each morning as there are orange trees in the courtyard!

I cannot recommend this apartment enough!

Thank you for helping me plan a last minute vacation! The apartment was fantastic!

October 2012 - Four of us spent a week in Casa Doretta in October of 2012. What a wonderful apartment. The furniture and the quality of the the construction were superb.

The location was great. It was only a short walk to the main piazzas and to many stores and restaurants. Though there was no living room, we all congregated in the kitchen as Italians always do. The kitchen was very well equipped and included a dishwasher. The kitchen had a small balcony overlooking the street. We spent a lot of time watching people go by. The kitchen and each bedroom had a TV. The bathroom and showers were great with plenty of hot water.

Vittorio, the apartment representative, met us on time and was extremely kind and helpful. He even checked back in the middle of the week to see if everything was OK. Thank you Vittorio and Summer In Italy for a great experience. On a previous trip to Sorrento, we used another rental company, which was much more expensive and very cold and impersonal. Summer In Italy and Vittorio were the best and I am sure will be using them again.

Travel tips

  • Just remember that Casa Doretta does not have a living room. That did not affect our stay in any way. The kitchen served as a great getting-together area.

April 2012 - We absolutely loved Casa Doretta and were made very welcome by Mr Vittorio [the owner], who met us at the bus station and then ferried us and our many suitcases to the apartment. The apartment is central and has fantastic views for people watching.

It was spotlessly clean and the bedrooms were stunning, all having their own balcony. The kitchen was great even though we didn't really cook.

Even though checkout was a 10 am, Mr Vittorio allowed us to keep our suitcases there and arranged for a taxi to transport us to the bus station again.

All 3 couples would definitely stay there again.

October 2011 - We stayed in Casa Doretta in late October of 2011. For our purposes, it was the perfect place to stay along the Sorrento coast.

We had a group of 5 of us and wanted to rent a house with a location where we wouldn't have to rent a car and could use public transportation to get around. Casa Doretta is perfectly located in Sorrento -- we had only a 5-10 min walk to the main bus station/train station. To catch ferrries it was either a quick 1 euro elevator ride to the shoreline or a 5-10 min downhill walk (the uphill coming back is fun!).

The house is very well maintained and has very nice showers. We bought groceries and made breakfast in the casa. We did make dinner 1 night there. If the weather is nice, there's a nice spot outside to eat/relax under the fruit trees in the courtyard. When it was raining, we were a bit cramped in the kitchen but we tended not to linger there long.

Booking with Summer in Italy was great. The house we rented was absolutely perfect for our needs and we'll definitely look at your other properties the next time we visit Italy.

Travel tips

  • This property is definitely geared towards people who want to use Sorrento as a base city for getting around and seeing all the other sites (Pompeii, Capri, Positano, etc). If you are looking for a property just to hang out and relax, you may want to look for other places.
  • We loved Pompeii way more that we thought we would and had very nice days hiking in the area.
  • Food wise, our two favorite places we went to in Sorrento were Pizzeria Aurora (in the main part of town) and Inn Buffalito (our favorite place of the week).
  • We did venture over to Vico Equense for the famous Pizza a metro which was worth the trip (we went there on our way back from Pompeii).
  • Another off the beaten path place was Restaurant Eughenes in Termini. We did a hike from Termini out to the tip of the peninsula and then looped back to Termini. Our lunch after that hike with our guide was awesome! Best rice balls we had on the trip!

September 2011 - We all really enjoyed our visit to Sorrento, and Casa Doretta exceeded all of our expectations. The apartment is in a fantastic location, very central yet quiet - it is adjacent to San Francesco church & cloisters and near to the lifts to the marina.

The apartment was equipped and furnished to a high standard, and the air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms were great. The set-up was ideal for our party of 3 couples, and the friendly welcome from Vittorio [the owner] was appreciated.

We really enjoyed our visits to Pompeii and Herculaneum, which you can get to easily by train from Sorrento, and our trip to and around Capri - it is well worth the (small) extra expense of doing this on a smaller boat than using one of the bigger operators (we used capitanoago) - our trip had 11 passengers and took us to all sorts of places a bigger boat could not go.

I would not hesitate to recommend this excellent apartment to others.
