Fantastic

September 2015 - Simple old Italian apartment with magnificent views. Fabulous terrace which made it special.

Enjoyed being away from lots of tourists. Loved being in the heart of an authentic Italian village.

I found Summer In Italy to be very helpful and efficient. Thank you.

Travel tips

  • If you need any advice or help about getting about, places to go etc, do go to the tourist information office in town. Very helpful.
  • Local buses are cheap and cheerful if not always on time.
  • Restaurants to visit: La Brace, Vivaro.
  • There is a very small cafe/bar on the way down to La Gavitella Beach. Nice place to sit with a drink and take in the view.
  • If going to a concert at Ravello and using local buses, you have to change at Amalfi. If the Ravello bus is late, take the Ravello sightseeing bus. It will get you to Ravello much quicker!

May 2015 - Casa Alves is a gem: “perfect apartment, perfect location, perfect Praiano.”

5 of 5 stars for a stay in May 2015.

Once you've climbed the 3 flights of stairs and walk thru the apartment door, you are stunned by the sea view stretching before you. Visible from the living room, the dining room and kitchen, and even the master bathroom, Capri sitting on the horizon will take your breath away. Sunset is pink and beautiful with the lights of Positano twinkling nearby.

Two bedrooms, 2 baths, fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, air conditioning, all immaculately clean. And the balcony... Table and chairs, two sun loungers, umbrella, a view to die for and just enough happening on the street below to be interesting.

Travel tips

  • Restaurants, bars, grocery all steps away.
  • Ask to the owner for boat tours, excursions, swimming, fishing.

October 2014 - Casa Alves was very clean and had the most spectacular view. We enjoyed it very much.

We were out on the terrace every moment we could to enjoy the amazing view. We also liked that the kitchen was very well equipped.

Francesca [the caretaker] was very nice and helpful. We appreciated the advice for the boat ride to Capri - it was excellent - and the dinner recommendation as well.

Excellent service from Summer In Italy!!!

Travel tips

  • Little noisier than we expected because we were on the main street, three flights up. Once windows were closed at night, it was fine.

August 2014 - Casa Alves is a nice apartment with air conditioning.

The view of Positano is spectacular and, thanks to the view, you tend to forget the 36 steps you have to climb every time to get to the apartment.

Francesca and her father [the caretakers] will do everything to satisfy your needs and it was very much appreciated.

Booking process with Summer In Italy was very easy. Nice staff and everything was well explained. I knew exactly what to expect.

May 2014 - My family of 5 enjoyed very much our stay at Casa Alves.

The apartment was clean and perfect for the 5 adults. The view was spectacular - photos do not do it justice. The apartment is located just above the town of Praiano, which is a great alternative to the busy Positano to sleep and eat in.

Francesca [the caretaker] was helpful with the check in and answered any questions that we had about the area.

This was our second stay in Praiano (the first time we stayed in a hotel), but when we go back, Casa Alves will be where we stay! It was fabulous. Nothing negative to say.

Travel tips

  • Book it!
  • We enjoyed grabbing pizza from Restaurant La Brace (next door) and dinner at Trattoria San Gennaro just across the street.

April 2014 - Casa Alves has a great terrace with the most beautiful view! We had all our breakfasts there. The kitchen is well equipped and has everything you'll need for a long stay. The master bedroom is spacious and comfortable and there's another room pretty spacious as well. The only downside is that you'll need to climb about 36 steps to get to the apartment, but it seems like it is quite common around there.

The owners of Casa Alves were super nice and very helpful.

To sum, we had a great time in Casa Alves and we highly recommend to stay there.

I want to thank the staff of Summer in Italy and especially Melanie who answered any questions we had and made the reservation process very easy.

January 2014 - Casa Alves was a great base during a winter visit to Praiano and the Amalfi Coast. Main road was not busy so whilst the villa is on the main road, the villa was quiet and a short work to the local shops/wine bar.

Travel tips

  • Praiano in winter is quiet and not a lot of choice in terms of restaurants open, however one restaurant was open so we eat there a couple of nights and had good lunches on the other days in Ravello and Sorrento etc.
  • We enjoyed going to the local coffee shop/wine bar in the morning and evening and not having a lot of other tourists around.

October 2013 - A perfect apartment in a perfect location! It really doesn't get any better than Casa Alves. The owners were right at the door to meet us upon our arrival and insisted on carrying all our bags up the stairs. Stepping into the apartment was like stepping into a slice of heaven. The view is magnificent looking over to Positano and Capri in the distance. We enjoyed many dinners on the terrace.

The apartment was well appointed with everything you could possibly need... staples in the cabinets that were much appreciated... cleaning supplies... and spotless!

The apartment is perfectly situated for food shopping, dining, sightseeing, buses, etc. Praiano is a lovely town... picturesque, quiet, friendly, yet close to all the major sights of the Amalfi Coast by bus.

On our last morning my husband realized he had forgotten his glasses at Restaurant La Strada and Francesca (the owner) immediately called the restaurant for us and retrieved them! She and her father were always available if we needed anything. It is obvious they love Casa Alves and Praiano and want you to feel the same.

Thank you Francesca for sharing this lovely apartment... and thank you to Summer in Italy for your fantastic website!

August 2013 - Casa Alves allowed us to enjoy one of the most amazing places in the world! The booking process was easy to follow and organized. The directions to the apartment were perfect. Our apartment manager was just lovely and so helpful. The apartment actually exceeded our expectations.

The distance to the beach was fine, despite the steps, however, we are a very active family. I suppose that information should definitely be stressed, but it really didn't matter much to us.

The actual physical apartment was perfect for our needs for our family of 3 for a week. I would most certainly recommend it to others and would love to rent it again!!

Travel tips

  • Casa Alves is well suited to an active guest, as there is much opportunity to hike, walk to both beaches in town and even to participate in other activities organized by the local tourist office, such as a boat cruise, etc.
  • There is no immediate parking, but we were always able to find a spot not too far from the apartment (5-10 minute walk).
  • The apartment has all the amenities of home with a most spectacular view! The terrace was our favourite place to hang out and watch the sunset.
  • We most certainly enjoyed our boat cruise and recommend that to any guest staying on the Amalfi Coast.
  • For those guests looking for a physical challenge, hiking the Path of the Gods from Praiano to Positano will not only challenge your fitness, but offer you the most breathtaking views!
  • Though we had rented a car, public transportation connections are excellent and guests can really use either mode of transportation to get there and connect with neighbouring towns.
  • We were also fortunate enough to be staying in Praiano during a local festival, the Luminaria di San Domenico. This allowed us to glimpse into some of the local culture and traditions.

July 2013 - We loved our two weeks at Casa Alves. The views from the terrace, as every other guest has written, is just beyond spectacular. Really from anywhere on this western side of Praiano, but from the terrace, its totally unobstructed. Particularly in the morning shade, sitting out on the terrace having breakfast, coffee, just reading, doing yoga, etc, was just wonderful.

The location is also very nice. Within a very short walk of groceries, pharmacy, some great places for espresso, wine, gelato, etc. And many very good restaurants within very easy walking distance. The beach is not a bad walk either, but there are steps, so not good for anyone with a handicap -- you need to be in reasonably good condition to get around Praiano, but that's true anywhere on the Amalfi Coast... Well worth the effort.

Very easy booking process, good instructions, everything went smoothly. I had a few questions that were cleared up via email and online chat well before our arrival. I'm amazed that we've arrived at a point where it is so easy and painless to arrange a vacation halfway around the world without ever having to talk to anyone on the phone. I'm sure the Summer in Italy folks would have been great if I'd needed to talk to them, but their entire online procedure was seamless and easy to work out.

June 2013 - We thought Praiano was the best town to stay on Amalfi coast. We loved Casa Alves - it was a great choice.

The balcony is large with divine ocean views to Positano and the Isle of Capri in the distance. The apartment itself is spacious and well appointed. The bedrooms are large, beds comfortable and the bathrooms clean and modern.

The owners are absolutely delightful and insisted on carrying our suitcases up and down the stairs to the apartment.

The apartment is on the main road but we did not notice any noise.

You were very helpful and patient. Thanks

Travel tips

  • Don't be put off by the entry and stairs to the apartment -- once you are in the apartment you will be blown away by the view.
  • The local bus stop is only 20 m away and there are great restaurants within 50 m. We especially like La Strada and Tramonto d'Oro. There is a supermarket within 100 m.
  • There is backup Internet at the cafe 50 m down the road. Just buy a coffee and you get unlimited access for 3 days.

May 2013 - The owner was there to help carry our bags up which was much appreciated.

We were 4 adults and we had plenty of room. The main bedroom was very comfortable the 2nd bedroom the beds were small singles and not that good for adults. Everything you need is in the apartment very well set up and maintained.

The views from the terrace were amazing, we could see Capri. Lots of places to eat nearby and the bus stop was very close.

Have used Summer in Italy before and it is still so easy to use. We are very happy with the service and would use it again.

Travel tips

  • Download a Sita bus timetable before you go. Buy your bus tickets at the bar opposite the church and you can go wherever you like along the coast.
  • Bar with no menu underneath is great for food (Vivaro).
  • The walk to Marina di Praia, approximately 3 km is worth it. Call in at the tower on the way to the beach and have something to eat at Bar Mare.

October 2012 - We stayed at Casa Alves with our friends for two weeks. We had a wonderful time. The location was the best, close to all amenities, restaurants, pharmacy, grocery store, tourist office and more.

The view from our terrace was jaw dropping. We could see Positano from our terrace. We had most of our meals on the terrace.

The owners were spectacular in every regard. They tended to our every need and made themselves available even though there was no need to call them, everything was perfect and in great working order. Very clean and a well organized place.

We would definitely recommend Casa Alves. Hope to visit again in the future.

Summer In Italy is our go to site. We have passed on your site to many, many of our travelling friends. Very professional and can be relied upon to give you the latest updates. With Summer In Italy you can rest assured that there will be no surprises that would ruin your trip. Would never consider using any other service.

Travel tips

  • Don't bother renting a car as the bus service is excellent, besides which parking is scarce.
  • Our favorite go to place: fantastic wine bar just below Casa Alves, Vivaro. Gennaro will make you a fabulous meal and he has a full bar with excellent wines. Great, great atmosphere.
  • Another fav: Bar Hotel Le Fioriere where Luigi, his sister Rosalia and their parents have a great cafe/bar where you can get wifi, while enjoying a glass of vino with delicious green olives/chips or a cappuccino.
  • Food was great at Restaurant La Brace, great pizza or whatever is on the menu.
  • Try Gennaro's by the church, where you can get an amazing seafood pizza.
  • If you walk out of the town (towards Amalfi) we enjoyed Locanda Costa Diva where you can have lunch under the lemon trees, gourmet delight.
  • Close by you will come to LizArt where you can purchase hand painted ceramics at the best prices we could find.
  • Further out of the town we found this little gem of an area, Marina di Praia. There are some great restaurants and a beach area.
  • Praiano also has a great little market, Tutto per Tutti where you can get great groceries.
  • You'll enjoy Praiano, a much quieter and peaceful setting.

Fantastic

July 2012 - Our family spent one week in Casa Alves this July. We were confident we made the right choice when we saw it online, but when we actually arrived... we knew for sure that this place was special.

The owner is very lovely and willing to help with anything.

Casa Alves is very spacious and was more than plenty of room for the four of us. It is very charming, but most importantly it is like a true home. There are special things hung on the walls and there is a good selection of books in the living room. Tv is small and only has Italian channels, but that wasn't a big deal to us and we enjoyed it for the little time it was on. The living room itself is small, but again, for our use it was good. Master bedroom is huge and the kids loved their twin beds in their own room. The linen in the master bedroom smells like heaven! Beautiful large dresser in the bedroom as well. The beds were comfortable enough for me. The twin beds were a bit firmer than the master.

We had two bathrooms which was a bonus, both very spacious. I loved the master bathroom with its beautiful wooden shutter window opening onto the balcony. There is a washing machine in the bathroom which we were thankful for. The only thing with that is the wash cycle is very long! Hair dryer also there but we never used it as it was just cooler for my daughter and I to let our hair dry naturally. The kitchen has everything you need and well equipped.

And the amazing deck... what can I say? It was there that we started our day and also ended our day. There is a table and chairs and also 2 comfy loungers. There is also a clothes drying rack at the end of the deck. We could not get enough of the view.

The location is perfect. Parking is challenging but we would find spots on the road and just walk to the place, about 10 or so minutes. The owner has pay parking on site, but we were lucky to find spots on the road for free.

There is a bus stop almost in front of the building that you could take to Positano, which is only about 10 minutes from there. There is not much in Praiano itself, but it has all the necessities, i.e. food market, pharmacy, a few restaurants and pizzerias.

The town is a good base for exploring the amazing Amalfi coast. A day trip to Capri is a must and it was our highlight, along with a day trip to Pompeii. If you want a nice sandy beach to spend the day at go to Meta, which is just past Sorrento. It doesn't take long to get there and the beach is sandy and the water is beautiful. It's a local beach and we loved it. No tourists!

It was very hard to say goodbye to Casa Alves. It has left us with treasured memories of Italy and I hope that one day we can return there. Its a very special place which has a little piece of my heart.

Summer In Italy! I can't tell you how lucky we were to have found you. I hope to deal with you in the future!! Take care everyone and thank you so very much!

Travel tips

  • The local bus to Positano, Ravello, and Amalfi town is right in front of Casa Alves. Very convenient and easy.
  • Make sure you take a day trip to Capri! It is a must see.

Summer in Italy made the trip a breeze. They answer any questions that may come up within the day you ask them. I started bugging them about two months before our trip and they were patient and helped make this a trip of a lifetime.

Travel tips

  • Take advantage of all the Amalfi coast has to offer. Praiano is a relaxing town and is only a short trip from all the major attractions.
  • The view from the deck is just about the best on the entire coast.
  • You will not need a car, public transportation is a block away.

June 2012 - We absolutely loved our stay at Casa Alves. It was in the best position, close to bus stop and access to beach. The view from our balcony was amazing, we spent so much time sitting out there eating and enjoying the beautiful view.

We were given a very warm and friendly welcome by the owner, Francesca, who met us as soon as we got off the bus from Sorrento and showed us through the apartment and demonstrated how everything worked.

We would definitely stay and Casa Alves again and have already recommended this apartment to our friends and family for future holidays. Praiano is a very beautiful part of the Amalfi Coast, a real jewel.

Summer in Italy is a very professional site. Your service was excellent and any contact was timely and efficient. You were a pleasure to book a holiday with and we thank you for your excellent service. Keep up the great work. We would definitely use Summer in Italy again.

Travel tips

  • The local tourist information centre is excellent and has all the information you need.
  • Day trips to Capri and Ravello are very worthwhile. We went into Positano and Amalfi on different days for shopping and more sightseeing.

May 2012 - We stayed in Casa Alves from April 28th thru May 5th, 2012. Casa Alves was the best part of our stay in Praiano! We used it as a base for seeing so many beautiful places on the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii and Vesuvius.

The view from the balcony was spectacular. We ate our dinner on the balcony. The view from the balcony was even better than was is seen on the pictures.

Francesca and her parents [the owners] were so nice and extremely helpful.

We loved our stay at Casa Alves and were sad to leave. We will be back one day!

October 2011 - We loved it there. Francesca and her parents met us at the Sita Bus stop and helped us carry our luggage up the 3 flights of stairs. A nice bottle of Vino Rosso was waiting for us!

We loved the location, didn't need a car as we walked or caught the bus everywhere. The market is close by for groceries as well as many great little restaurants.

We would highly recommend this apartment to anyone wanting to be in a smaller, less touristy area like Praiano. There is some street noise below, but we loved sitting and people watching from the terrace, and the noise was noticeable after a couple nights. The bedrooms are not at the front of the apartment, so it is not so bad for sleeping. And the sunsets from the terrace were amazing! The kitchen is very well equipped for cooking your own meals, which we did a few nights. The apartment is very nicely decorated, and had everything we needed for our one week stay.

Would highly recommend it.

Great service, found you on the internet through Trip Advisor. Will recommend you to my clients as I am a travel agent.

Travel tips

  • We did the boat trip to Capri from the Praiano Marina, very inexpensive and easy to do. We booked it through the Tourist office just down the street from the apartment (everything is just down the street from the apartment).
  • The beach in Praiano is a great spot to spend the day, if you can handle the 300 steps. There are a couple of restaurants down there, so you can spend the day.
  • Would recommend the Pizzeria next door to our apartment called the Ristorante La Strada - very good food, not expensive, had the lemon risotto: it was wonderful.

September 2011 - We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at Casa Alves. The apartment is very well equipped (plenty of kitchen equipment, crockery, glassware, silverware... even a safe!) and the view from the terrace is simply stunning.

The location right over the Costa Amalfitana main road is most convenient placing local shops, bars, restaurants, internet point etc. at easy distance and noise was not a problem.

The owners, Francesca and Maurizio, were most helpful - wonderful people.

Thoroughly recommended.

Great site and great service from Summer in Italy.

Travel tips

  • We travelled by rental car as our Casa Alves stay was part of a longer trip. However, we would recommend that guests avoid this method of transportation. Driving along the Costiera Amalfitana is a hair-raising experience and parking is a problem everywhere. Note, Casa Alves offer their own garage parking at extra cost and we were most thankful for that.
  • Public transportation is quite efficient and frequent and can take you anywhere on the peninsula. You can also appreciate the fantastic views, which you certainly can't if you're driving!

June 2011 - Our stay was excellent. We were impressed with the cleanliness of Casa Alves. The living room was a little small but the balcony was outstanding and made up for that. We spent much time enjoying the beautiful views from that balcony.

After visiting Positano and Amalfi, we were very glad that we chose Praiano. It was not touristy nor did it have so many shops that it would be hard to buy something that you did not see everywhere else.

We found SII by chance on the Internet and just put in the Amalfi Coast as a location. We liked the looks of Casa Alves and the price but also the location overlooking the sea. We dreamed about it for a whole year and were not disappointed and would recommend SII and Casa Alves to anyone. Any questions we had were answered very quickly and we found that helpful. Thank you Luca for all your help. God's blessings to you and your staff.

Travel tips

  • The shopkeepers were wonderful and very helpful. Most understood some English so speaking was not a problem.
  • The local restaurants were very good especially the one right beneath Casa Alves called the Wine bar where many locals gathered.
  • It was a good location for day trips and the bus system is very good and convenient.
  • If you are looking for a sandy beach you are out of luck. It was hundreds of steps down to the beach and then it was rocky. However the water was warm and the beach area was good. Casa Alves did have beach towels available for our use.
  • Bring your walking shoes for if you want to see the homes in the hills you have to walk up many hills and steps. After a few days that got easier and more fun.

November 2010 - Casa Alves was the perfect apartment for our holiday on the Amalfi Coast. Praiano is a nice, quiet town to use as a base and Casa Alves is in an excellent location in Praiano.

The balcony and second bathroom are what set Casa Alves apart from other rentals. The view is incredible and the apartment provides plenty of space for two couples or a family.

The owners are very pleasant and helpful.

We would rent Casa Alves again and highly recommend it to anyone who is visiting Amalfi.

Luca, Elisa and Alfano were very helpful and always responsive to our questions. Summer In Italy made the entire rental process very easy. We will use Summer in Italy again in the future. Thank you!

October 2010 - The best feature of Casa Alves is the balcony. The location is beside the bus stop. The apartment was spotlessly clean and Francesca and her parents [the owners] were very attentive.

We had a wonderful holiday.

We are very glad we booked through Summer in Italy and you will be our first stop when we visit again.

Travel tips

  • The people of Praiano were very friendly and welcoming. We tried to give some business to all the local shops. There is only one exception. Avoid Ristorante La Brace.

October 2010 - We stayed at Casa Alves Oct 9-16. The apartment is very charming with an excellent view.

We arrived late but the owners came to meet us and actually carried the bags up the stairs. They had a bottle of wine waiting for our arrival. The hot water heater element burned out but they had it fixed while we were out for the day.

The owners are very accommodating. I would rent again.

September 2010 - Casa Alves was a dream come true. We spent hours on the terrace looking out at the view and cooking great Italian food. We loved it!

Summer In Italy staff were all friendly, efficient and provided more than enough information for our stay.

Travel tips

  • The view from the terrace was spectacular! Can't say enough. Vivao Wine Bar below the apartment was wonderful. The proprietor was friendly and provided some unique and very enjoyable snacks.
  • Hosteria il Pino was a fun and very friendly place to eat dinner. The view is beautiful but still not as good as Casa Alves itself!
  • Ravello is not to be missed. It's quieter and, if you survive the drive up, provides osme of the most beautiful views and scenery I we have ever experienced.
  • The grocery store on the upper section of Praiano (Tutto per Tutti I think it was called) has a pretty good wine cellar in the basement. Wine and Champagne etc from Campania and other parts of Italy and France. Small but well stocked.

July 2010 - We had a fabulous stay at Casa Alves. The owners are delightful, helpful and provided us with a beautiful villa to call home for our week in Praiano. We were so glad we stayed in Praiano vs. the much more touristy and crowded Positano or Amalfi.

The villa was well stocked with everything we needed. We cooked nearly every night and ate on the terrace at sunset gazing at the sea.

Paradise!

Excellent service! We will recommend Summer in Italy to others.

Travel tips

  • There is a wonderful little market for fresh food and wine only one block away. There is also an excellent fish market and butcher.
  • The bus system between coast towns is very efficient. I wouldn't want to drive on the coast road!

July 2010 - We loved our week at Casa Alves - I dream of the view from the terrace (and our en suite!).

The location was very central for the part of Praiano we wanted to be in - variety of shops/eateries nearby.

We spent most of the time on the terrace - the lounge area was a bit cramped for 5 but the TV had English channels! We had fab weather so we didn't have to be inside. The kitchen was very good - especially the big fridge. The air conditioning was great to use at night when it was still and hot. Having 2 bathrooms was a bonus which made our stay more enjoyable too.

Travel tips

  • We found it hard to beat eating meals on our own terrace so bought supplies from the local shops - fresh fish and meat, local cheese, bread, salamis, tomatoes, lemons etc or take away pizza from Restaurant La Brace nearby. We dined out once at the Trattoria San Gennaro which was great pasta and location by the church - they even let us take home a doggy bag!
  • Bus easy to catch nearby but not always on time. Easy to do trip to Pompeii - we left about 7.30 am and had 3 hours there before the crowds got too big and the heat too much. We were back in Praiano by about 2!
  • Walk to La Gavitella beach is tough on the way back up but the pick of it or La Praia Beach.

June 2010 - We stayed in mid June 2010 for a week. The whole coast was surprisingly not crowded. We absolutely loved Casa Alves, Francesca and her parents [the owners].

This is a hidden gem. The view is the best on the Amalfi coast. The apartment is large and clean, beds comfortable, AC great.

We have only marvelous things to say about the entire experience. We rented a car and used the garage, which worked out great. The town of Praiano is magical. I wish we could move there. Driving along the coast we easy. Unless you are a driving weanie, it was no big deal at all and a must in order to enjoy all there is to see.

The only thing I recommend is not to tell too many people about this - it's that special!

We will use again for sure. Molto bene!

Travel tips

  • Visit Ravello.
  • Find the hidden away Praiano beach where you can rent a speed boat and have lunch and dinner at Restaurant Il Pirata.
  • Restaurant La Brace next door was marvelous.

June 2010 - We enjoyed our stay at the Casa Alves very much.

It was spotlessly clean and the kitchen was well stocked with all manner of cooking utensils and pots and pans. There were lovely dishes and glasses for all occasions. The master bedroom was luxurious with its own balcony doors. The second bedroom was small but functional. Having two full bathrooms was so convenient. Also a washing machine and drying rack made laundry an easy task.

The veranda was amazing, a highlight of our stay, just sitting there with some good Italian wine and soaking up the outstanding view and the sunsets. Or reading a book and watching life go by on the interesting street below. We even enjoyed a fireworks display one evening.

Nearby restaurants at the local hotels are very good and the service is so friendly and welcoming. There are friendly grocery stores, butchers and even a fish stall right on the main street. A fresh cup of coffee is easily found too. Also a couple of lovely gift shops.

The trip down to the seaside is well worth the hike and other strolls along the winding walkways past the church and hillside homes is delightful.

The only negative I can report is the rather steep stairway from the first to second floor passing some less than attractive construction. But it's fun to imagine what lovely hideaway might be in progress.

May 2010 - After experiencing the "steps" everywhere we were very happy that Casa Alves only had 37 steps! it was bright, CLEAN, and comfortable.

The beds were very comfortable and the view from the main bed out to the water was great. We especially liked having a washing machine. It had everything we needed, good hot water and pressure, we only used the kitchen for breakfast and snacks, but everything was there that you would need if you wanted to cook. We thoroughly enjoyed the terrace and watching the world go by and the incredible views of Capri and Positano. Also having access to the garage was an added bonus.

All in all we would go back there.

Summer in Italy was great. The newsletters were especially helpful. Everything went smoothly which is the most important thing when traveling!

We had to call Summer in Italy on arrival because our phone wouldn't go thru to the owners and the response was immediate! Thanks so much.

Travel tips

  • Praiano was the perfect location to go everywhere. We went from Sorrento down the coast past Salerno to Paestum on day trips. We had a car so everything was "close" for us.
  • The wine bar below the apartment was by far our favorite. Gennaro is great as is his wine and food. Luigi at the Internet cafe was helpful and very personable also!
  • The grocery was close and handy, go to the one on the main street, it is less expensive.
  • It was a perfect 2 weeks.

May 2010 - Casa Alves was one of the true highlights of our 3 weeks in Italy! Everything was top notch and had all the amenities of home.

It was close to the bus stop for travel to Positano and Amalfi. Casa Alves had all the cooking and eating needs we could ask for.

We had satellite tv which was nice to come home to just to get the news of the world.

Thanks for making everything come together it was great!!

Travel tips

  • When traveling to the other towns make sure you don't wait for the last bus to come home as they tend to fill up and become overcrowded which can ruin what was a great day.
  • If you don't want to cook there are some great restaurants in the town.
  • Our hosts were perfect in every way (English-speaking, pick up at the bus, carrying the luggage up the 35 steps etc). A small climb compared to our friends who were 65 and 95 steps to their villas.
  • We took side trips to Pompeii, Positano and Amalfi, all of which were just short trips. My wife and daughter did the adventure of the Walk of the Gods which they totally loved!

September 2009 - We had the best time possible at Casa Alves. We met the owners and they were charming - a lovely welcome gift was much appreciated.

The apartment was perfect - better than we expected. It was spacious and clean and the kitchen was well equipped.

We spent most of our time on the balcony - the view was spectacular and is was private and relaxing. We had great fun watching the activities below in the street.

The owner recommended Restaurant Il Pino in Praiano - it was by far the best meal we enjoyed in Italy. And I must say that the view from the loo is the best in the world.

I will be recommending Casa Alves to anyone visiting the Amalfi Coast.

Travel tips

  • Spend as much time as you can at the apartment or in Praiano - it is perfect for relaxing and escaping the crowds.
  • If you want to see the sights - Ravello was beautiful and Positano is so chic for shopping, gelato and drinks at the beach. The trip to Capri was a very big day and too much tourism for us - but if you go, the boat trip around the island is breathtaking.

August 2009 - Our family of 5 really enjoyed our stay at Casa Alves. The beautiful, roomy terrace provided amazing sea and sunset views which could not have been better. We ate our breakfast and enjoyed early evening drinks there daily.

The 2 bathrooms and kitchen were newly renovated and quite nice.

Francesca and her parents were very friendly, helpful, and a pleasure to deal with, always.

Although the second bedroom and living room were small and a bit cramped, it had little affect on our enjoyment of Casa Alves. The air conditioning was fine in the hot weather.

When we visit the Amalfi coast again, we will definitely stay at Casa Alves again. It was really lovely.

All was really great... We enjoyed your newsletters... The landlords of Casa Alves were wonderful...

Travel tips

  • The ride to Amalfi from Praiano is really quite beautiful to take.
  • We could not decide about renting a car but in the end, we did not and relied on the local bus service. We are happy about that because, truthfully, the roads seem to be very tricky to drive on safely...very crowded and narrow.
  • Praiano neighborhood shops are right there... the grocery, tobacco shop, etc.
  • The beach is right there as well. There were a lot of steps so if you have any physical issues, you should try a beach that is not so far down cliff side...
  • Have the pomodoro tomatoes and the buffalo mozzarella... really delicious and fresh.

July 2009 - I decided to join my parents in Italy after seeing the photos of Casa Alves, the apartment they rented, online. When we got there in person, the photos didn't do the apartment justice.

What a spectacular place. Every room looks opens up to the balcony, and Praiano has the most beautiful view of any town on the Sorrentine peninsula/Amalfi coast.

Travel tips

  • Day 3: ferry from Positano to Capri

July 2009 - We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Alves. We thought the location was excellent... close to the bus and many great restaurants. The only negative (which wasn't bad at all) was the climb up to the apartment. However, after talking to many tourists staying in other places, we discovered we had it pretty easy.

After being there for a week we got to know the locals and enjoyed their company many days. If we decide to go back to the Amalfi Coast we would stay there again.

April 2009 - Casa Alves was just perfect and more than exceeded our expectations!

When we arrived, Francesca and her parents warmly greeted us - even taking our bags upstairs!! They took lots of time to show us the flat and point out the important things we needed to know. Francesca's English was amazing -better than our English perhaps!!! They answered any questions we had very clearly and gave us excellent local information to make our stay in Praiano just perfect.

The apartment itself was spotless - such a very high standard of hygiene throughout. It was equipped with everything we needed - and more - the family had even left us fruit and wine - what a start to our holiday!! It was more like staying in a home that renting an apartment. In fact we actually stayed in some evenings and made dinner - never have wanted to do that anywhere else we have stayed before!!!

The outlook from the balcony of the Casa Alves - totally amazing - we never tired of just sitting there and taking in the perfect views of the Amalfi coast - this will I am sure remain with us for a lifetime.

The location of the Casa Alves was just a perfect base to explore the rest of the Amalfi coast from.

On our last evening, Francesca came to ensure that all had gone well during our stay which was very thoughtful - it was good to be able to express our thanks to her in person for making our holiday to Amalfi just perfect.

I would also like to pass on our thanks to Luca and others at Summer in Italy, for also having a large part to play in making our holiday just perfect!! Your website is so well organised and interesting, with any information we required to read before our visit. Your communication with me was great too. The information you sent me was very detailed and meant that I had a clear idea of what to expect during my stay in Casa Alves. I will certainly be recommending you to as many people as possible!! I will also recommend you on the "Trip Advisor" website - that was where I got your website in the first place!!! I know that when we are planning future trips to Italy, I will be checking with your website before looking elsewhere!!

Travel tips

  • Just enjoy this wonderful apartment and all it has to offer. It is an excellent standard of furnishings and is spotlessly clean. It is ideally situated in Praiano to make it an excellent base to explore the Amalfi coast from.
  • It has a few stairs to reach it, but not hard to climb - we are not particularly fit and had no problems!!!

January 2009 - We absolutely loved it!! The rooms were large and very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped with more essentials (sugar, salt, teabags, coffee, some spices, flour, etc., etc.) than I have ever seen in a vacation rental! I actually felt like cooking!

The view was spectacular! Unfortunately it rained and was colder than we expected, so we couldn't really enjoy the balcony.

The owners, Maria, Maurizio and their daughter Francesca were wonderful! Their warm welcome and holiday gifts (homemade Panettone, wine and more) were totally a treat for us! Our girls kept repeating - 'they were so nice' every time we spoke of them.

Travel tips

  • Casa Alves's location between Amalfi and Positano is perfect if you want to get away from the bustle of the touristy Amalfi coast.
  • Do not plan on driving unless you are a) Italian :) or b) very adventurous. The Sita bus which stops right outside will take you everywhere conveniently. Buy the tickets at Bar Del Sole - two blocks away or have the tourist office, a few feet from there, help you with the local bus. Amalfi and Positano and even Naples, Sorrento, etc. are just a scenic and stress-free bus ride away. We even found a taxi rental in town a few buildings away.
  • Very close-by: a small fish market, meat market, a couple of grocery stores with delis, Internet cafe, what else could you possibly need? Oh, and when we didn't cook or go out to other towns - we liked La Brace (great pizzas) and Un Piano nel Cielo (gourmet) for dinner and loved Le Fioriere Bar for their special teas and friendly staff.
  • The only thing to keep in mind - you will get a work-out going up and down the 3 flights of long steps to the apartment - but nothing compared to the 400+ steps we took down to the beach!

October 2008 - We had an excellent week at Casa Alves.

The owners and manager were helpful and met us on arrival.

The view was outstanding and the time there was very relaxing.

The water pressure was low but you could still have a decent shower.

Location is good as very close to bus stop. Enjoyed local shopping and being able to eat relaxing meals at home.

Weather was great for the whole week and we always tried to get home for sunset to enjoy the view whilst having a glass of wine.

Overall the week was a highlight in our 3 month holiday and we would definitely go there again and would recommend it to friends.

Also found Summer in Italy very good to deal with and very helpful.

Owners had left plenty of local information for us to read and had left a nice welcome bottle of wine which was appreciated at the end of a long day's travel to get there.

Place was very clean and nicely presented. Website showed a good representation of place so no nasty surprises.

Keep up the good work. Found you to be very helpful and descriptions on website (and photos) very accurate and gave good idea of what to expect.

  • The restaurant recommended by owners was very good.

October 2008 - The apartment was lovely.

The kitchen was well equipped with everything one might need to cook, or simply enjoy a little wine and cheese preparation. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms nicely finished and functional. The television if you find time to watch, has a variety of stations including movie stations (with English options). The outdoor terrace is a dream with a drop dead view that changes nightly with the sunsets.

The hosts are very welcoming and helpful.

From our perspective there is not much else you could ask for in a vacation accommodation.

We were very impressed with the service from Summer in Italy and would not hesitate to recommend to others (we already have!)

Travel tips

  • The town is very small with a host of good restaurants and small grocery, butcher and fish merchants. On the restaurant front, we were most partial to Il Pirata at the beach, the atmosphere and view at Il Pino, and the food quality at Le Brace.
  • The small orange local bus is the best option to Positano and back.
  • A nice little getaway within Positano for a relaxing time is Cafe Pupetto right on the beach at the end of the pleasant walk between Positano's beaches.
  • We enjoyed both Cetara and Vietri sul Mare if you are travelling south of Amalfi on the bus... the 24 hour 6 euro bus pass is a great deal.
  • We enjoyed Sorrento... although too many cruise folks when we happened to be there... the port area is less crowded.
  • We found things a bit uncertain/hectic when we got off the Circumvesuviana for the first time upon arrival at Sorrento... the routine is actually simple once one knows... you can buy a 90 minute bus ticket to Praiano (3 euro) at the bar/tabacchi at the arrival level of the station... Sita bus stop is just outside and down the stairs.... the first bus stop in Praiano is at Hotel Tramonto D'Oro near the Casa Alves... very straightforward.
  • I personally found Salerno a bit underwhelming in relation to the bus travel to get there... however,if one is going to Vietri sul Mare, it's only a few more kilometres to Salerno in any event.
  • While Amalfi is picturesque, thought Positano far more interesting and varied for wandering than Amalfi.

September 2008 - We are from Belgium and our mother language is Dutch, so excuse us if our English is not well spelled.

We had a wonderful vacation at "Casa Alves". The owners (Francesca and her father) welcomed us with fruit and drinks.

The apartment was great and had more then everything we needed.

The view was even better then the pictures we saw; it was absolutely STUNNING!

All the shops were nearby and the people of the village were very friendly.

The only thing that bothered us was the noise of the bar next below to us; Italians have the habit of meeting each other on the street so getting to sleep can be a bit of a problem.

At the other hand you get used to it after a few days, and it's vacation so you can sleep when you get home.

Also don't worry if you hear big bangs at approx 2 at night; it is not the beginning of World War III but only just fireworks. It's a tradition in that area.

If we go back to that area of Italy, we certainly go back to "Casa Alves"!

Travel tips

  • If you have any doubts of booking this location: just book it.
  • The view on the gulf and Capri is the best in Praiano.
  • We tried all the restaurants in Praiano and we found "Hotel Smeraldo" the best, it is just across the street: very cosy and the owners are very friendly.
  • At "Bar Del Sole" we spent many hours watching tourists and locals, having a good time.
  • We made all our excursions with the local buses (Sita): it's cheap and full of surprises, all included.
  • Positano: beautiful but very touristic and expensive. Sorrento: likewise. Amalfi: very beautiful. Ravello: STUNNING! Capri: beautiful, you have to see it but very touristic and very expensive. Herculaneum, the excavations: very well preserved, worth a visit. La Grotta dello Smeraldo: DON'T. It's ridiculous.

August 2008 - We thought it was an excellent place to stay. It was clean and the owners were very helpful and willing to please.

The situation was ideal being in the village and so close to shops, buses, etc.

The view was marvellous.

Being in a small village we were very pleased to be there rather than in busy and touristy Amalfi and Positano.

We think Casa Alves was an excellent place to stay and would willing return.

July 2008 - We more then enjoyed it, we loved it. It had everything you could possibly need for comfort and the view was amazing.

The owners were extremely nice and greeted us warmly. They answered all our questions and assured us they would be available in case we needed them, which we didn't.

The apartment was beautifully kept and everything worked perfectly.

The location couldn't be better. Great restaurants and the local grocery stores were only doors away. We loved it so much that we actually spent more time on the terrace than site seeing. When we did drag ourselves away, having the bus stop a few yards away from the front door was a pleasure.

I would definitely recommend Casa Alves to anyone planning on visiting the coast. The apartment is perfect for a family of 4-5 people.

Another added plus was having air conditioning. Some days can be pretty hot so there is nothing better to come home to then a cool apartment. There are two units. One in the master bedroom and the other in the living area which cools the second bedroom also.

This is the perfect place to stay for anyone planning a visit to this amazing part of Italy.

Keep up the good work. The apartment was even better than the pictures. We have been recommending your site to all our friends.

Travel tips

  • The restaurants all have incredible food. We did not have one bad meal.
  • The Trattoria San Gennaro (just down the road) serves large portions of their delicious dishes so I recommend that you order one antipasto and one main dish and share it with your partner.
  • The buffalo mozzarella and mortadella are out of this world. We bought ours at the local grocery store just down the road and couldn't get enough of it.

July 2008 - Pictures do not do it justice, this is just a lovely perfect villa with wonderful views. You can see all the way to Capri.

We enjoyed the location of Casa Alves. This place is a true gem, everything needed for your home away from home.

The owners are very sweet and helpful.

This was our honeymoon and I have to say a trip of a life time and large in part to this villa and this town. The people are all so nice and friendly. I would recommend this place to everyone!

For planning our honeymoon over the Internet this experience working with Summer in Italy was far better then expected. Everything was very simple and easy.

Travel tips

  • Enjoy what this villa has to offer which is everything.
  • If you want a bite to eat there are plenty of places from fine dining to pizzeria’s near by. If you want a before or after dinner drink there is a great wine bar that serves appetizers.
  • The market is fully stocked, the bus is easy to access, the travel info station, Internet access store, all in walking distance and centrally located. Even the "beach" is down the road. There is a taxi service in town.
  • You can cook your own meal and just take in the wonderful view from the villa and its large deck.
  • This is a perfect villa in a perfect town. Get out walk around and take it all in. Do your research cause this place and its surroundings has wonderful things to offer. Realize when you look out the villa's windows that this is the exact area over this sea view where Homer has Odysseus first experience the call of the Sirens in his Odyssey. I could stare out to the ocean all day in this villa. It gets more beautiful at sunset. To relax make it to One Fire beach just below the villa and to Restaurant Il Pirata down the road and visit the tower, it's open sometimes.

June 2008 - Wonderful location with one of the best views you could possibly hope for.

We enjoyed visiting Positano and Amalfi but were glad we were not living in them.

Wonderful website. The apartment was exactly as I expected it to be, except that the view was even better and the apartment even bigger than I had imagined. You will always be my first choice for accommodation in the future.

Travel tips

  • There is a local taxi just a few doors down the road who took our party of 3 from Praiano back to Naples airport for 100 euros. This was much more reliable and quicker than when we had caught the 2 buses there and good value. It removed all the stress of getting to the airport on time.

June 2008 - We stayed at Casa Alves in June 2008. The owners met us at the bus stop (we were at the wrong one) and walked us up to the apartment and even carried our bags up the two flights of stairs.

The apartment had everything we needed and more, including some food supplies in the cupboard, fruit in a bowl and basic bathroom necessities which we weren't expecting.

The views over the bay were stunning, and the apartment was very close to a bus stop and good restaurants.

Our experience with Summer in Italy was fantastic - and the apartment exceeded our expectations. Thank you for helping to make our holiday great.

May 2008 - Francesca [the owner of Casa Alves] and her family gave us a wonderful welcome, guiding us into the garage, carrying our luggage up stairs, telling us about the house and leaving a lovely bottle of wine.

The location was just superb with fabulous views. Being on the main road did not worry us at all - at night virtually all traffic ceased. Access to the bus services (Sita and local) was convenient, the small delicatessen was also nearby with all basic needs (including wine!) with a helpful staff and a good choice of restaurants. Buona, buona!

Your professional services were greatly appreciated. We will recommend to friends and acquaintances that they use Summer In Italy. Wonderful!

Travel tips

  • Amalfi offers more sightseeing than Positano.
  • Sorrento had a nice feeling about it - an easy Sita bus ride for the day.
  • Capri tour from Marina Praia is good value - book at Tourist Office.
  • To stretch the legs, walk up to the old Dominican convent.
  • If you have a flat tyre the Gommista (tyre repairer) is about 8 km along the road to Amalfi - does not speak English but we managed to buy a new tyre.

April 2008 - Casa Alves was perfect for us! I really enjoyed it. Praiano is a picturesque town, and Casa Alves has a good location within it, in the Vettica Maggiore section of town, not far from Positano.

The apartment is a nice size, with 2 spacious bedrooms, a dining area, and an adequate living area. The bedding was comfortable and the furnishings were attractive. It was convenient to have a kitchen for breakfast and snacks, but we ate dinners out. This is vacation, right?

We spent much of our time on the lovely terrace... what a spectacular view! The children loved the multiple glass doors leading to the terrace. It let a lot of natural light into the villa, too.

I really appreciated that the bathrooms were very clean - I arrived with Clorox wipes in hand, ready to tackle the job, but found everything already sparkling! I was very pleased.

We were glad it was only 36 steps up from street level, because we did so much walking each day.

Signora Francesca [the owner] and her parents were lovely. They even left items we might need in the house, like napkins, and a large water bottle, and some snacks. If I return to the Amalfi Coast one day (and I hope to), I would stay here again. All 4 of us loved Casa Alves.

I spent 30 hours online researching various sites and locations. The Summer in Italy site provided an impressive amount of details, ratings, and photographs.

I was confident the villa would meet our needs because I knew so much about it before I arrived. Plus, your staff was helpful, answering all of my e-mailed questions quickly.

And the villa was great, so I have already recommended your website to a friend looking to travel to Italy.

And I will use your website again next year, God willing!

Travel tips

  • Casa Alves is great, and has a terrific location.
  • The folks at Restaurant Smeraldo across the street made us feel right at home, and gave us tasty food. We ate on the terrace both times - a lovely view! They were also kind to our 2 daughters. It was great to eat and just walk home across the street.
  • We were able to attend mass just down the street at lovely San Gennaro on Sunday, and there was a food store very close by with plenty of fresh fruit, etc. Adjacent to the food store, was a good ceramic shop, with pleasant owners. The people in Praiano were warm and helpful.
  • We came to enjoy the history, art, architecture, and scenery of the Amalfi Coast, and we found all of the towns offered that... but I found that prices at shops were more affordable in Praiano and in Ravello, than in Positano.
  • Casa Alves is also right by the tourist office and the bancomat (ATM). You can get Sorrento and Positano ferry info from the tourist office. Don't miss Capri!
  • The only difficulty we had with the villa was pulling in and out of the garage, due to visibility issues, so I generally got out of the car to assist my husband (the driver). Plus, the garage doors are not a simple push-button operation was we have at home.
  • Everyone told us that driving was difficult, but as we are from the NYC area and it was not the high season, we figured it would be fine. We found that driving can be manageable for an expert like my husband (in the spring, not summer), but finding parking can be a challenge. In some towns, there aren't many parking areas, so even if you are willing to pay for a spot, it might take a little time on a weekend to find one that isn't full. Everyone seems to love the SITA bus system, so it might be worth looking into. (My husband despises buses, so it wasn't really an option for us.)
  • The area around the villa was relatively quiet except for Saturday night, when there was a party downstairs, but that really gave us no trouble. My children slept right through it. And, hey, it was Saturday night!
  • The walk down to the Gavitella beach was easy, but it is 400 steps back up, so travel light. We ate on some jetties at the beach, so that gave my 6-year-old the fortitude for the return journey. :)
  • Our entire trip was wonderful: we enjoyed Praiano, Positano, Ravello (Duomo, Villa Rufolo, Villa Cimbrone view), Amalfi, Capri (Blue Grotto, Villa Jovis), Pompeii and Oplontis. Just beautiful. What a memory.

April 2008 - This apartment was perfectly located for exploring the Amalfi Coast. We were a stone's throw from a pharmacy, a wonderful hotel bar (Hotel Le Fioriere) that served delicious espresso every morning, a grocery store, a taxi stand, the bus stop, a bakery, and souvenir shops.

The town's people were very friendly, waving to us every day when we left the apartment.

The pictures on your web site do not do this place justice. It was beautiful! The apartment is very clean and well maintained. Unfortunately, we picked a time when Italy saw it's first cold snap in April in 40 years, which severely limited our time sitting out on the balcony. The view is unbelievable from this apartment!

We had a good time anyway and the owners were just great. I had an emergency call from the States and they came over to get me to call home. They were very nice people.

This apartment had everything you could possibly need for an enjoyable vacation. We had fun walking through this town and got to see all of the beautiful towns along the coast from Sorrento to Paestum. (It hailed on us in Paestum!) We even went to Sunday mass at St. Gennaro's with the locals. We could not understand a lot of it, but it was a beautiful service just the same.

We took some fabulous pictures from the balcony and the apartment was very roomy. There were only three of us, but it would have still been comfortable with a couple more. There are two full bathrooms, which was really nice.

You guys were great all year while we planned this trip. Too bad you cannot control the weather, otherwise it would have been totally perfect! I studied well over 100 apartments last year before deciding on this one. I also read reviews of your agency on other travel sites. I am really glad I chose this one. Anytime I had any questions, Andrea or some other representative from your agency went out of their way to answer my questions. There were no surprises, which is always nice. I would not hesitate to use you again.

Thanks to all of you for a memorable trip.

Travel tips

  • Explore as much of this little town as possible. There are steps behind the church that take you along the coast in both directions. Going to the right takes you down to the beach, (be prepared for a lot of work coming back up), and going to the left takes you by a pretty park, an out of the way hotel, and many gorgeous views of the sea.
  • We did a lot of shopping in this little town. The people really appreciate it when you do, and you can find things at much more reasonable prices than in the more touristy places.
  • Most of all, save extra money to take a taxi whenever possible. The buses are a lot cheaper, but the crowds make getting around a lot harder and for a little extra money you have your own personal tour guide. They love to talk about the area and every one we used was great. We used Benvenuto for a day trip and to and from the airport, Claudio Lucibello after a concert in Ravello and Mr. Rispoli Gennaro has a taxi stand right in the middle of Praiano. We used him for a trip to Sorrento to catch the ferry to Capri. He dropped us off right at the docks and picked us back up when we called him.
  • In Praiano, we ate at Restaurant La Brace and the restaurant in the Hotel Smeraldo which were both good. Hotel Smeraldo has a beautiful terrace over the water, but it was raining and cold the day we ate there, so we stayed inside. They don't have meals as early as we Americans do, but they were good sports about letting us sit there sipping cappuccinos until it was lunch time.

October 2007 - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Alves and recommend it without reservation.

The apartment is well situated, as it is in close proximity to Positano and Amalfi and lots of other interesting towns/places. A car is not necessary as the local bus and ferry service is great.

The apartment was very clean, comfortable, and well equipped, and you can't beat the view.

The apartment is located off of the main road, so you can hear the buses/cars honking sometimes, but it didn't bother us at all because we were too busy looking at the beautiful sea from our balcony, and we saw some wonderful sunsets. We enjoyed the location as it is away from the hustle and bustle of tourist towns such as Amalfi and Positano, but we could get to those places in no time at all on the bus.

The owner was very accommodating -- she even loaned us an alarm clock as we had an early morning departure.

Travel tips

  • There are local buses that will take you to nearby towns for one euro.
  • The Sita bus will take you to further cities, and for five euros you can ride for a 24 hour period.

October 2007 - Very, very nice, we will absolutely recommend this place, however not for disabled and very small children. The apartment is spacious, very well kept(quite new), clean, charming etc. Have never experienced that a rent-for-week-apartment has been so well supplied with kitchen utensils.

The terrace is magnificent; sunny until sunset, spacious and with excellent and panoramic view to Positano and Capri. We actually lived at the terrace.

The living room is a bit limited as there are only two chairs for "after-dinner-seating", but as long as you may stay at the terrace, that is not a problem.

Maurizio [the owner] and his family is very loving and helpful. Also recommend Praiano/Vettica Maggiore over Positano as we feel Positano is a bit of a tourist-trap, but at the same time only a bus-ride away when you stay at Casa Alves. Bus stop is right outside the house. Some traffic noise, but no problem after dark.

Travel tips

  • Parking may feel like a problem, but if you don't mind some walking, there is no need to pay the extra cost.
  • The stairs to the beach is beside the entrance at Hotel Smeraldo just across the street.

Travel tips

  • If you would like to do some tours stop by at the hotel across the street and you can book through them.

August 2007 - Casa Alves is a beautifully presented, very well equipped apartment. The view from the terrace is stunning - easily the best view from any hotel/apartment we have ever stayed in.

The owners - Francesca, Maria and Maurizio - are amazingly friendly and welcoming. From gifts of wine and fruit on our arrival, to calling with a surprise birthday cake on our daughters 16th birthday, to driving us to Sorrento on our last day, they were the perfect hosts.

I'd like to rate Casa Alves with 5 stars across the board - but as it is on the main road in the centre of Praiano, it's not completely peaceful and quiet. But hey, its an apartment in an Italian coastal village. I loved sitting on the terrace in the evening, having seen the sunset over the Amalfi coast and Capri, watching the passers by.

The Summer In Italy website is excellent. Lots of information and plenty of photographs of every apartment. The arrival instructions they sent us shortly before the holiday were detailed and very useful - down to advising us to say "Per piacere, puo farci scendere a l'hotel Tramonto D'oro" (where Francesca and Maurizio met us) when boarding the bus in Sorrento!

June 2007 - Casa Alves exceeded all of our expectations.

The views from the terrace were heart-stoppingly beautiful and the location could not have been more convenient. Everything we needed – groceries, wine, liquor, ATM, bus stops (Sita and local), fishmonger, butcher shop, tobacconist, several bars and restaurants, car service, pharmacy – was less than five minutes away. Casa Alves is located about two hundred meters from Praiano's town center, and they're all level.

Although we spent the majority of this trip just enjoying Praiano - and there’s so much to enjoy – first-timers will appreciate its central proximity to Positano, Amalfi, Ravello and Capri.

Francesca, Maria and Maurizio, the lucky owners of Casa Alves, were very kind and attentive to our needs. We had a little drainage problem in both showers the third morning of our stay, which we just assumed would take hours for someone to get to, but Maurizio arrived on the scene and had both drains unclogged within 30 minutes of my initial text message to Francesca. Needless to say, we were sufficiently impressed.

We will definitely stay at Casa Alves the next time we visit the Amalfi Coast, which we pray will be soon. Thank you Summer In Italy for making everything so easy and for answering all of our email questions in a timely and courteous manner. Your site and customer service are spot on.

Travel tips

  • Marina di Praia is one of the most beautiful and unique beaches in the world. Take the local Praiano-Positano bus to the Praia stop and walk down the cobblestone loop.
  • Make sure there’s a bus schedule in the apartment. We found one in the basket on the TV.
  • Restaurant Il Pirata on the cliff walk at Marina di Praia is an after-beach delight. The views are intoxicating and their fried Calamari with lemons is to die for, but they close at 3:00, so get there early.
  • La Gavitella beach for lunch followed by a water taxi to Positano is a must. The steps to La Gavitella start right across the street and to the right of Casa Alves, and there are at least two hundreds of them, so we strongly recommend that you eat at La Gavitella en route to Positano.
  • The Church of San Gennaro is eye candy. You have to go inside.
  • The pizza at Trattoria San Gennaro, which overlooks San Gennaro Square, is some of the best we’ve ever eaten, especially the Pizza San Gennaro. Go one hour before sunset and sit at the far end of the garden overlooking the Square.
  • If you like to dance and/or listen to good dance music, you’ll definitely want to check out Music on the Rocks in Positano. It used to be a cave where fishermen kept their nets. We caught the 8:00 local Praiano-Positano bus to Positano, ate at Max’s (go there) and went to Music on the Rocks around 10:30 with the intention of having one drink and catching the midnight bus back to Praiano. Oh well, so much for good intentions. We ended up staying until 3:30... and we’re old! You can get a taxi back to Praiano from Positano’s town center for about €30, even at 4:00 in the morning.
  • Go to the little bar located a few doors to the left of Casa Alves. We can’t remember its name, but it’s an absolute gem of a place and only takes a minute to get to.
  • Spend a lot of time enjoying the view from Casa Alves’s terrace, especially in the morning and at sunset. Burn it into your cranial hard drive. You’re going to need it when you get back home!

June 2007 - Casa Alves was even better than the description and pictures. We were amazed by the convenience and the cleanliness. The steps were a little difficult for us because we are older and have some medical problems but our daughter and grandchildren didn't mind at all. They even climbed the 383 steps to the village beach every day and loved it.

Francesca and Maurizio [the owners] were most welcoming and communicated to us in English which was helpful.

We enjoyed so much the village markets with their fresh foods and loved cooking in the kitchen and dining on the terrace with its spectacular view.

The bus stopped just down the street whenever we decided to take a trip to Amalfi, Positano or Ravello.

Praiano and Casa Alves were just what we were looking for in a vacation, relaxation and new experiences. Thank you to Summer in Italy and Casa Alves for surpassing our expectations.

Travel tips

  • Restaurant La Strada was suggested to us by Maurizio as nearby and economical for take out pizza. The selection was large, the price was right and the taste wonderful. We even went back for a more formal dinner on the upstairs terrace and enjoyed the fresh caught fish and the homemade pasta.
  • The small market down the street supplied us with fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses, cold-cuts and everything we needed to cook meals in the villa.

June 2007 - We loved our stay at Casa Alves and could not have asked for anything more.

The location was perfect for us and our 3 children. Close to the bus stop for both buses, close to wonderful restaurants, we loved stopping by the Bar Del Sole every night for a coffee, gelato, wine or other treat for the kids. We loved stopping by the church most evenings where our kids and many other local kids played and adults gathered.

We enjoyed visiting Pompeii, Capri and Positano but loved coming home to Casa Alves each night.

The entire apartment was beautiful, even more than we expected, but the terrace was just amazing. It was so large, with a table and chairs and two loungers. We would eat out there, read, nap. The view was perfect.

One of our favorite restaurants was La Gavitella and we enjoyed being right near the 400 steps down to the beach. We can't wait to come back to Praiano some day.

May 2007 - My 15 year old son and I stayed at Casa Alves from May 19th through the 26th. We very much enjoyed our stay there. The view was incredible and I loved the fact that three of the rooms opened onto the balcony. The first thing you saw in the morning was the hazy mist of Positano. The balcony was nicely decorated with flowers and lounge chairs.

The villa is conveniently located with the bus stop practically at your door. A few of the nights were a bit noisy as there is a hotel across the street. One night there was a wedding and it was fun to watch. The little bit of noise wasn't enough to really bother us.

For some reason -- and this was because of my own unfounded assumption -- I thought the villa would be a little more secluded. But the house had everything -- including a welcoming bottle of wine.

Francesca [the owner] and her family were so nice, helping us up the stairs with our bags, etc.

We had all the peace and quiet we needed, as well as the lively atmosphere of the town when we wanted.

I booked with Summer in Italy by chance and cannot say enough about your great service. I will be coming back to Italy and will certainly use your service. I have told everyone I know about Summer in Italy. You are very nice people to deal with and being able to do everything online with a credit card is wonderful. • The beach is well worth the walk. Don't give up just because of the steps. The closest beach is practically straight down from the house and well worth the trip. On the way back up the steps, just think you're working off the great food you'll be eating!
  • When in doubt about... anything, ask at the tourist office. The lady that worked there helped us with everything from Internet access (which is in town and very good) to planning our trip to Pompei (a must see).
  • If you can, take the ferry up or down the coast, it's a great alternative to the windy highway and offers an unforgettable view of the Amalfi Coast.

It also had a great location within Praiano, close to every where we needed to go to.

I would love to stay there again!

I will definitely go through Summer In Italy again! Everyone was so helpful and made everything stress free! Thank you!

Travel tips

  • We loved going to Capri, it was a great boat ride, and had amazing sites to see!
  • We really enjoyed relaxing at the house on the terrace, and going to the beach!

March 2007 - Casa Alves was a great! We were surprised that the views were even better than the pictures. Not only did we sit out on the patio for the views, but also to watch the activity down below on SS 163. Even with the casa above the main road, noise was not even an issue.

We would stay there again in a heartbeat, it would be perfect for 4 people or 2 couples.

Travel tips

  • The SITA bus stop is right across the street and offers the best way to get up and down the coast.
  • Some of the restaurants down at the beach were not open yet in March, but the location has many restaurant options within walking distance.
  • Also a fish market, butcher, and grocery store within walking distance too. A great location.

December 2006 - Casa Alves is located in Praiano which is not in the main tourist circuit but it is a much more friendly environment and you can feel part of the village.

In particular we were met by a host family to introduce us to the area and the unit and they were a most exceptional family. This is truly a great-value-for-money experience.

I think the unit is lovely, we were an Australian family of 4 and the unit was excellent.

Travel tips

  • Shop locally - eat locally and enjoy the village.

November 2006 - It's a wonderful flat, right in the village.

The rooms are large and airy. Both bathrooms were new with nice showers. The kitchen was also new and offered everything we needed. The flat was very clean and well appointed.

The owners were wonderful and made us feel very welcome.

The views were magnificent, both by day and night.

The whole set up was wonderful for 2 adults with 2 small children, we couldn't have asked for more.

You do a wonderful job. You made the booking process very easy and your instructions/directions were spot on. Many thanks.

Travel tips

  • If you are driving, do rent the garage space. Once you've parked just leave the car. The bus stop is a 5 minute walk down the hill. Without a doubt, the best way to get around is on the bus, you can purchase tickets at the tobacconist next door. It's very inexpensive and everyone gets to see the views, it's also stress free!

October 2006 - We had a wonderful time at Casa Alves.

The view from the terrace was just incredible, even better than the photos.

The hosts were kind and helpful.

I really enjoyed your quick and nice replies to all of my enquiries. I would warmly recommend your services to everyone I know!

Travel tips

  • If you like walking, there are some beautiful hikes at Amalfi. Walk up in the mountainside to Positano (lots of ups and down, but worth it!). We also had a very nice hike from Nerano to the tip, Punta Campanella, with beautiful views to Capri.

October 2006 - Casa Alves was a very enjoyable apartment, adjacent to the main attractions on the Amalfi but not too close to large amounts of tourists.

We were met by the owner/managers who had prepared with some basic foodstuffs, which was helpful as we had arrived on Saturday afternoon.

The apartment was perfect for a relaxed holiday after almost 2 months travelling through Italy, and we have wonderful memories of watching the glorious sunsets from the balcony

We were very impressed with the service provided by your company, and would use it again. We travel reasonably regularly to Italy and stay in apartments where possible.

Travel tips

  • Sita buses provide excellent and cheap transport from the doorstep both ways (north and south).
  • Arriving at Positano/Amalfi by ferry from Naples and taking the Sita bus is a quicker method.

October 2006 - We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Alves - the owners were lovely and very accommodating.

The view was fantastic. The two bedrooms were large and the two bathrooms were well appointed and modern.

Without the use of the garage, though, parking would be difficult [parking space in the garage is available upon request].

There was a little supermarket down the road and restaurants around the apartment so it was very easy to live there. Bus stops were nearby and overall we had a fantastic time.

I found it easy to deal with Summer In Italy, everything was as you represented it to be and when we had a small problem with language you were available to help.

Travel tips

  • If you have a car you will need the use of the garage and getting in and out of it is a little tricky due to traffic but hey it's Italy!
  • Take away pizza on the balcony is a wonderful way to spend the evening and not expensive!

September 2006 - From the moment we arrived, the owners made us feel so welcome. We were delighted with the apartment, the views, the small gifts (olive oil, fruit, beer, coke, biscuits, washing powder) and the warmth of Maurizio, Maria and Francesca.

The local shopkeepers were just gorgeous and coped with our poor Italian with good grace.

We loved being able to walk down the road and choose our evening's meal (wonderful fishmonger, butcher and the superb fresh local fruit and veg).

Casa Alves was extremely convenient with the Sita bus stop just down the road - it was an experience travelling on these buses, yet the bus drivers handled the extremely tight roads with care and expertise!

We dined at La Brace - what a wonderful restaurant - our children (aged 11 and 10) thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We spent many evenings on our balcony enjoying the wonderful view - watching the lights come on in Positano was an evening delight.

We were delighted to receive one evening a home made cake and bottle of wine from the owners - absolutely delicious.

We were overwhelmed with Maurizio's offer to drive us (and our luggage) to Sorrento on the day that we left so that we wouldn't have to catch the Sita bus with our luggage - that tiny little Fiat will probably never be the same - but we so appreciated it!

Considering that Casa Alves is on the main road to Amalfi I was expecting it to be quite noisy but there was hardly any traffic at night - now that I have seen the road I am not at all surprised - I wouldn't want to be driving at night! We loved all the buses tooting as they approached a corner.

We can't thank the owners enough for making our stay so enjoyable. They had really thought of everything - olive oil, biscuits, balsamic vinegar, tea bags, coffee, mosquito repellent, plug in repellent for the apartment, washing powder (so gratefully used as we had been on the road for 5 weeks), beach towels, large pots for pasta, BBQ.

I am so impressed with Summer in Italy. From the very first time that we contacted you our queries were replied to promptly and efficiently with clear information. Your instructions of how to get to Casa Alves were fantastic. We would certainly book with you again and have recommended your website to friends.

Praiano was a magnificent ending to our 5 weeks in Europe with our children - neither wanted to leave and both would like to return to live there!

Travel tips

  • Casa Alves is so well situated out of the tourist bustle of Amalfi or Positano. It is well served by fabulous fresh produce - butcher, fishmonger, local supermarket that also sells local fruit and vegetables.
  • We had no need for a car whilst we were there as the Sita bus stops 50 meters from the door (you buy your tickets from the tabac - 1 euro each way to Amalfi/Positano) a little more to Sorrento.
  • Pompeii was worth the 1 1/2hrs travel (Sita bus to Sorrento, then train to Pompeii) - so much larger than any of us imagined and we were amazed at the amount of excavation done. We hired 2 headsets (1 adult/1 child) - these were very informative but you also have the option of hiring a guide - just be careful to choose a recognized guide as there are a few non "gypsies" there).
  • Smeraldo grotto is a lovely spot to visit (Sita bus in Amalfi direction - just ask the driver to let you know when to get off
  • also go later in the morning to avoid the tourist buses!) we then took a boat ride to Amalfi for lunch.
  • Paul and I both had haircuts at the local barber and hair salon - what a treat of an experience! I looked like an Italian Movie star when I walked out!!! Amazing considering that very little was spoken during my 2 1/2 hrs there (The granddaughter speaks a little English).
  • We didn't visit Capri (maybe next time) though most people that we spoke to were very disappointed - very touristy and extremely expensive.
  • Bar del Sole was just great - wonderful view from its terrace (nearly the same as Casa Alves, just a little lower) and the drinks were so inexpensive - also has a great gelati bar in there.

September 2006 - We didn't know what to expect of Praiano or our internet rental and were a bit apprehensive. Not only was the website user-friendly, but the owners were even more so.

Beautiful views, nice apartment, convenient location for transportation and groceries; a friendly town with fresh produce and even gelato.

The owners were courteous and made us feel welcome. Thank you!

September 2006 - This is an amazing little gem on the Amalfi Coast - perfectly located in Praiano just a stones throw from Positano, Amalfi etc if you can brave the buses! or driving!

The apartment is lovely with loads of extras such a beach towels, welcome drinks, cooking basics, fruit etc.

The owners are really friendly and helpful and have taken real pride in creating an amazing home for you for a week - we barely moved off the terrace all week as we got the sun from aroun 10 - 8 every day - the views are breathtaking as well!

If you have a car hire a space from the owners it makes life a lot easier!

Thank you very much.

August 2006 - Our stay at Casa Alves was delightful! We thought that there was no way the pictures of the place could be real - but the view is actually more impressive than the pictures convey.

Maurizio and his family were wonderful - and we felt like family each time we encountered them in Praiano.

Praiano is the perfect place to stay on the Amalfi Coast. It's centrally located but less touristy than Positano and Amalfi. Lots of Italians take their summer vacation there and everyone was quite welcoming.

If you plan to go to Capri, definitely use the private company that they recommend at Casa Alves (you will see a laminated sign by the door). The captain loves sailing and it shows - he took his time exploring the different islands on the way back, stopped frequently for us to swim, and offered us sodas and beers.

We can't say enough positive comments about the owners and Summers in Italy. Everything was handled quite professionally.

You won't want to leave!

June 2006 - We loved the Casa Alves and the town of Praiano.

It was so convenient to town yet peaceful that all ideas of day trips to Pompeii, Capri, etc. were quickly discarded.

Everything was absolutely lovely and we hated leaving - hope to be back very soon. Thank you so much for everything.

June 2006 - This property is the very best to be found on the Amalfi Coast, views are outstanding ++++.

Praiano offers everything one would desire, right at your doorstep. The owners are truly the very best. Upon our arrival, a very friendly and warm welcome.

People here are very friendly, helpful, and go out of their way to make your stay one to remember.

Public transportation is perfect and gives you a true feeling of the people and its coast. You can't go wrong here.
