Absolutely beautiful home!

September 2023 - Casa Alfonsina is an absolutely beautiful home! We very much enjoyed our stay. The view was magnificent and we found everything we needed in the house.

While the hill and the stairs were a challenge, we quickly learned about the local bus and we used a taxi when we didn’t have the energy for the hill.

Summer In Italy was very helpful and provided us with all the information we needed. Thank you!

Travel tips

  • The bar next to the bus stop at the bottom of the hill is a delightful place that makes an outstanding gin and tonic!

The views are unbeatable and the host was very sweet

September 2023 - We absolutley loved our stay at Casa Alfonsina and wish we could have stayed longer! The views are unbeatable and the host was very sweet.

Nothing to improve that comes to mind. Everything was wonderful. The complimentary pasta and sauce really came in handy the first night! We did not want to walk anymore stairs, so we ate that and it was delicious! Thank you.

Travel tips

  • The pizza place right next to the church was our favorite pizza we had on that side of Italy!
  • Took a day trip via cab (quick 20 min) to Positano which was lovely, then ferry to Capri. We had a wonderful stay.

Chraming home with outstanding views

September 2023 - We loved our stay at Casa Alfonsina!

The home is clean, spacious, comfortable, and charming. The views are outstanding and you will not want to leave the terrace or balcony.

We had a great experience with Summer in Italy. 5 Stars!

Travel tips

  • The town of Praiano is located directly below the home. It is a lovely small town with many great restaurants and shops.
  • The tourist office is located close by which can give you tips on using the bus system to go around town or to the nearby towns of Amalfi or Positano.

Casa Alfonsina draws you in, and places you in the essence of the Italian culture as soon as you enter the villa!

September 2023 - Each room is spacious with beautiful colors and panoramic views of the sea. The lower terrace was fun and cozy for cocktails in the eve and to view the lights of town, listen to the church bells, and vista view of Positano! The upper terrace was absolutely incredible. It was like painting of Italy. We all met here in the morning for coffee, and planned our day. Sometimes it was hard to get motivated because you felt you didn’t need to go any where because it was so perfect. Perched high up in the sky, no sounds of cars just nature. I did enjoy listing at times to the locals having faint conversation in Italian! The Italian language is so beautiful! The kitchen was also large with plenty of room to cook a nice meal, and a big family table to share a meal.

The owners of the villa were the best host! They were responsive when you needed them! They helped us book boats, cabs, and also brought us delicious local fresh white figs, to go with out mozzarella, and tomatoes. :)

Travel tips

  • The property is away from all the hustle and bustle of tourist. We liked that. What we liked is that when we were done with our day, we came back to a very quiet place with beautiful views.
  • We mostly took cabs or busses to locations we planned for the day. The busses run every 15-30 minutes. The cabs can be pricy.

Very beautiful property

Thank you for being so cooperative with changing dates, etc.

Travel tips

  • The Path of the Gods was amazing - the woman in the tourist office was extremely helpful and her advice was most appreciated - we loved the weekly concert up on the Path of the Gods.
  • The buses were difficult due to the crowds - many buses would pass as they were full of tourists from Amalfi or from Positano. We solved by being on the first buses of the day.

Gorgeous views

May 2022 - Very much enjoyed our stay at Casa Alfonsina in May - absolutely gorgeous views from the top patio! Stayed here comfortably with three adult couples. Lots of space to spread out when we were at the villa.

Felt this villa offered a very authentic "vibe" and was very clean.

Travel tips

  • Do not bring a lot of luggage - pack light! Villa offers a washer (no dryer) and drying racks outside for your clothing.
  • Bring very reliable walking shoes/stair climbing shoes. This villa is up on the hillside (back to amazing views), but there is a shortcut down to street level for grocery market, restaurants, bus stop, etc. that it is 250 stairs. Walking down is easy peasy... going up really gets you in shape.
  • If hiking is your jam, bring supplies to hike the "Path of the Gods"... gorgeous adventure. Read more about it on the "All Trails" app. Could be an all day hike to Positano if you so choose.

Had a great time

September 2019 - My family and I had a great time at Casa Alfonsina. The house was beautiful, spacious, quiet, very clean and well maintained and the views from each of the terraces are so beautiful!

Praiano is a great place to base yourself while visiting the Amalfi Coast. It's a short bus ride to Positano and Amalfi and you can take a day trip to Capri. We very much preferred the smaller town of Praiano to return to after visiting the busy and more touristy towns. Praiano has plenty of restaurants and also a small market to stock up your kitchen.

Summer In Italy representatives were all very helpful and provided prompt responses to any questions and I highly recommend booking with them.

Travel tips

  • Casa Alfonsina is located above the main road, when getting dropped off by car, you still need to walk about 10 minutes to the house and there are small runs of stairs (3-5 steps) scattered throughout the 10 min walk which you will have to take your luggage up and down. Also, to get to the main road where all the restaurants and shops are, you will need to walk down about 225 steps. Once on the main road, you will have to walk down another 330 steps to get to the beach. I personally enjoyed the extra exercise and the views and scenery was really beautiful (especially going to the beach) that we didn't mind the steps and just took our time. If your family has no issues with the steps I highly recommend this house and also recommend booking private transportation for arrival and departure with your luggage. [Future guests please note, there is an alternative at walking down the hundreds of steps to the main road: taking the local bus!! Also, you might consider to walk along the route of cars/buses, no steps even if obviously longer than the shortcut with steps. :) ]

The outdoor space is spectacular with amazing views of the sea from multiple terraces

August 2019 - My family and I had a great time at Casa Alfonsina. The outdoor space is spectacular with amazing views of the sea from multiple terraces.

The location is great, providing easy access to town shops, restaurants and beaches. Just be prepared to walk up and down steps.

The owners take great pride in their beautiful house. Teresa [the owner] greeted us at the property and gave us run-down of everything in the house along with some tips about the area. Also, we had a rental car with us and they helped in securing us a spot for the duration of our stay.

I would not hesitate to return to this property.

Summer In Italy was very quick to respond to our questions and provided great info on the area.

The best rental

June 2019 - Thank you so much for your kindness during our stay!

We had three rentals during our time in Italy, one in Florence, one in Rome and this one. It was by far the best.

1) The view and terrace are outstanding. The terrace is huge, has two levels and there is a separate terrace off the living room as well.

2) It is very, very clean and well cared for. We were greeted by the lovely family who own it and they take very good care of it. Please treat is as your own as we did, so it remains as nice for our next visit!

3) We loved Praiano. It is not as touristy as Positano or Amalfi and we felt like more of a local than a visitor.

4) If you don't like stairs...well, it is the Amalfi Coast. I counted 206 steps here up from the main road in town. It's a bit, but we are mountain people and considered it just a little exercise. The beach is town is worth a visit, but an undertaking with stairs too. Again, it is the Amalfi Coast, so understand that you'll be hiking stairs.

5) We will return to this lovely villa if we have the chance. Enjoy!

Summer in Italy was helpful when we had some questions about meeting the family to get into the villa. Our language skills are lacking, so they stepped in to assist with a simple phone call. Their communication about the rental was excellent.

Travel tips

  • Go see our friend Gennarino in the garage next to the tourism office in town to hire a driver. He delivered us to Pompeii and the best guide and took us to Ravello - of which we were unaware. It is fantastic. He introduced us at a restaurant there and the food was outstanding.

Travel tips

  • Had a wonderful meal in a beautiful setting at Restaurant Franchino, Hotel Onda Verde - could not have asked for more.
  • Outstanding meal and a lot of assistance from the desk help at Hotel Tramonto d'Oro Restaurant with again a fabulous water view table and probably the best meal I had in our 10 day trip (the chicken - believe it or not - stuffed with ricotta). Kudos to Ivana the lady at the front desk who helped us arrange a boat to Capri even though we were not hotel guests.
  • Pulalli Wine Bar in Capri, very disappointing - limited menu - expensive.
  • Go for drinks or lunch at Restaurant Le Tre Sorelle in Positano - right down on the water (ask for Gaetano, he is more than delightful).
  • Best thing we did - hotel cooking course at the Hotel Buca di Bacco right next to Restaurant Le Tre Sorelle.
  • Be sure to see the nativity scenes by the side of the road. We hired a driver to do that and took a tour of a limoncello company with lots of tastings - jellies, sweet ice cream sauces, pistachio sauce etc, in Positano. Enjoy!

It was perfection!

October 2018 - My husband and I, our son and daughter and son-in-law had the pleasure of staying at Casa Alfonsina. It was perfection! A beautiful home, lovingly cared for. We cooked many meals in the well equipped kitchen and enjoyed the outdoor terrace all day long. It really is an amazing place.

We recommend this home so highly. We would love to return some day.

Teresa, the owner, was quick to respond to any questions or requests and even dropped off umbrellas for us during a downpour. She was so wonderful, and it was a perfect stay!

Summer In Italy was remarkable. You all answered all of my questions, no matter how small. You provided local information that was very helpful and every time I reached out with a question, it was answered so quickly and politely. THANK YOU for making this vacation our best family trip ever!

Travel tips

  • The market is so close. There are steps downhill, going down is a breeze but coming back up took a few breathing breaks, just so you know. However, I wouldn't change a thing. We loved it so much. This darling town is so much better than the tourist laden towns nearby.
  • The bus is down the steps and easy to catch to Amalfi or Positano.
  • The restaurants are all wonderful, we especially enjoyed Kasai, a bit of a walk, but delicious.
  • We also love walking so we went to the furthest beach, and although quite windy, we loved it and highly recommend you do that.

The house is in impeccable condition, so well made and in excellent condition

September 2018 - We had a wonderful stay here with another couple. The house is in impeccable condition, so well made and in excellent condition.

The kitchen was well stocked. There are two terraces to enjoy the view from and we took advantage of that during our stay. The bells of San Gennaro chime every quarter hour which was lovely, though thankfully when you close the shutters to the bedrooms you do not hear them.

The location is fantastic given how many steps it takes to go anywhere. We were happy to be high enough to get the views but still a 5 minute walk down to the main road of the town.

Our host Teresa was very helpful and kind.

We had an easy booking. Communication was excellent and the house was all that was promised and more.

Travel tips

  • We had some great meals at Hosteria Il Pino, Restaurant Kasai and Restaurant M'Ama!
  • Most restaurants offer a shuttle service. Getting picked up and dropped off at Bus Stop 16 is the best way to get to and from the restaurants. Walking to M'Ama! and Kasai was quite easy.

Summer In Italy was great to work with for our home for the week! It is an excellent company to work with. Any questions I had were answered in a very timely manner. I was given great recommendations regarding tours, cooking school, and car service. I will definitely use Summer In Italy in the future!

Travel tips

  • Praiano is a great central location on the Amalfi Coast. Very quiet and not as busy as the surrounding towns.
  • We did not rent a car or drive, used private drivers -- Claudio Lucibello owner of Amalfi Coast Car Service (recommended to us by Luca at Summer In Italy). Claudio and his drivers we excellent! We used his service for the entire week. We trained into and out of Salerno. Claudio organized a day trip to Pompeii and lunch at Mt. Vesuvius winery, excellent! Arranged a private boat for a day trip to Capri, an afternoon of shopping and wonderful dinner in Positano and a day in beautiful Ravello. I highly recommend Claudio Lucibello and will use his company on our next visit to the Amalfi Coast.

A dream vacation home

May 2018 - Casa Alfonsina was a dream vacation home. We spent the entire week marveling at our luck in being able to stay at this villa. The terrace views are magnificent and the villa is spacious and well-appointed. We would love to come back!

Summer In Italy has been a great resource. The people were in touch all through the process of selecting and booking a villa, and provided helpful information about transfers, what to expect at the villa, communication with the non-English-speaking owner, and they make sure we knew we could contact them at any time with problems and questions. We do not speak Italian and had not previously traveled in Italy. We wanted a vacation with complete freedom to do what we wanted to do, but with back-up support. We felt confident that the Summer In Italy staff would be there if we needed help.

Travel tips

  • Don't miss the small authentic family-run limoncello makers at Il Gusto della Costa (Via Gennaro Capriglione, 24). We were given a short tour and generous tastes by Valentino, and left laden with gifts to take home.
  • Another highlight was the Path of the Gods hike. You can begin the path right from the villa. We went all the way to Positano, stopping at Nocelle for refreshments at a delightful outdoor cafe. The hike is challenging and took us a few hours but if you are able to do it, it is an unforgettable hike.
  • We also enjoyed walking through town to the Marina di Praia Beach where we soaked up the sun and enjoyed drinks at Restaurant Il Pirata.
  • If we had had more time, we would have signed up there at the Marina di Praia Beach for a day trip by boat to Capri.

Fell in love with the place

October 2017 - My husband and I stayed for 1 week (Sep 30, 2017) and fell in love with the place. Casa Alfonsina had everything we needed and the views from every window were absolutely amazing. All in all, the place exceeded our expectations. Often reality doesn't live up to the pictures but the pictures were 100% accurate. We will definitely go back.

The weather was perfect and much less crowded than during the summer months. It is very private and peaceful. We travelled into Positano for the day and were so glad we weren't staying there - too busy.

The owner met us on arrival and took us to the house.

Summer In Italy were excellent every step of the way. They communicated all of the essentials as well as many helpful tips, excursion ideas. There is no parking onsite but Summer In Italy was able to arrange private parking for us at a great rate (street parking is extremely limited). They explained all of the rental details clearly with no misleading information. We were very happy with Summer In Italy and will use them again.

Travel tips

  • Tip for arrival at the house if driving, you must park the car and then walk with luggage up and down stairs so pack light.
  • The house is above the main street and there are many steps. It's a great workout but not ideal for anyone with mobility issues.
  • The mains street has a local supermarket, a post office, a few gift shops, hotels, restaurants.
  • The food at the restaurants was amazing... Our favourites: Restaurant La Strada (upstairs), Restaurant Che Bontà (casual but great pizza/pasta), Restaurant Tramonto d’Oro (fine dining, excellent food, views).
  • If driving, rent the smallest car possible - roads are extremely tight.

Outstanding villa!!!

June 2017 - We LOVED Casa Alfonsina! We were traveling with my 82 year old father so I wanted to be sure we rented a villa with great views and space for him to move about in case he had difficulty with the steps of Praiano. Casa Alfonsina was like the "icing on the cake" on this trip!! It surpasses all hopes and expectations!

All rooms were very comfortable. The kitchen was equipped well for our needs. The terraces were amazing, giving us a place to take in the views both morning and evening. The oscillating fans in each of the downstairs bedrooms were greatly appreciated. I appreciated having a few business cards from local businesses that were available in the kitchen. It would have been helpful to have access to printed local bus schedules and a map of the coast at the villa. Overall... outstanding villa!!!

Ms. Teresa and her daughter Lucia [the owners] were so helpful at check-in and Ms. Teresa saved the day when my Dad locked himself out (thank you so much, Ms. Teresa!). Ms. Teresa keeps the villa spotless and her flowers and plants are so healthy and beautiful.

You all were great to work with. I enjoyed receiving your weekly emails about Italy... Fun learning about the culture, foods and words and weekly bits.

Travel tips

  • We did not have a car and used the SITA bus and the Praiano local bus without problems.
  • We used TonyTaxi for transportation on our departure day... He was awesome!
  • We loved the salad and pizza at Che Bontà... A wonderful family operated restaurant. And they made crepes for us even though the item is not on the menu!
  • The ladies at Ceramiche Da Mario located next to the food market in Praiano were helpful in so many ways.
  • We visited Il Gusto Della Costa, a limoncello factory in Praiano. If you visit in the morning you may even get a tour by owner, Valentino!
  • We made several day trips. One to Paestum to see ruins of Greek temples dating to 600BC... Very interesting and worth the trip. One to Ravello which has the unforgettable Villa Rufolo... A must see.
  • We used La Sibilla to book a day-long excursion to Capri... Totally worth the 70 euro fee.
  • If you are in good shape, I highly recommend hiking up to the Path of the Gods. You can reach it from Praiano by 1,000 steps... Difficult but not impossible. Be sure to start early in the morning, take a hat and water and don't forget you camera... The views are breathtaking!

We were a family of 6 and we had more than enough room to enjoy our week long stay without getting in each other's way. The kitchen was great to work in with everything that you needed and we enjoyed the large fridge with ice maker.

The view from Casa Alfonsina is absolutely breathtaking! We enjoyed many of our meals on the extremely large outdoor terrace and also enjoyed beautiful sunsets in the evenings. We loved the peacefulness of Praiano and found everyone to be so very friendly. It was close enough to Positano to do day trips and to other places as well without it being too busy.

We would highly recommend Casa Alfonsina to others and we hope to have a return visit very soon. Thank you to Ms. Teresa for sharing your beautiful home with us!

We were extremely pleased with choosing Summer In Italy to book our stay in Italy. All of the staff at Summer In Italy were so very helpful and responded to all of the questions we had with regards to our villa. The site in general is wonderful with so much useful information to help people out when booking their Italian vacation. It made everything so much more enjoyable knowing that we actually had someone to answer any questions that we may have. I can't say enough good things about Summer In Italy and have already recommended you to others looking to plan their Italian vacations. I will definitely use the Summer In Italy site again for the near future!

Travel tips

  • Enjoyed gelato every day at Bar del Sole.
  • Did not rent a car but instead arranged to be picked up by the taxi service by Claudio Lucibello at the Naples airport. Claudio was wonderful and we would highly recommend him to others.
  • We travelled around by the bus services and found this to be much easier than having to worry about where we would park our car since we visited Italy during their peak season in the summertime.
  • Be sure to do a day trip to Capri if possible. This was one of the highlights of our trip. We were a family of 6 and we rented a boat with another family of 5. We departed at 9 am enjoying a fun-filled day out on the water sightseeing and swimming with a return time of 6 pm. Our captain was extremely accommodating and we have memories to last a lifetime with fabulous pictures to look back on and enjoy.
  • Enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Chez Black in Positano one evening and the food was fantastic.
  • Shopped at the little grocery store on the main street and prepared many meals at Casa Alfonsina since we enjoyed it so very much out on the beautiful terrace. Be sure to buy the olives and wine at the grocery store. The olives are fantastic and we couldn't get enough of them! Wished that I could take them back to Canada.

Fantastic

June 2013 - Great facilities with 3 genuine bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The eat-in kitchen is very large with many appliances and utensils provided. The only minor wish is that it is at the back of the apartment and so has no views, but otherwise it is well equipped, and there is another smaller kitchen upstairs.

The best feature is the enormous deck that has absolutely beautiful views and looks out over the sea to the Isle of Capri and faces west so you can watch the sunsets - amazing and worth the price of the villa alone.

We also liked the more authentic, traditional feel of Praiano versus Positano which we felt was a bit "touristy" now. The local village has a good choice of restaurants (and bars) but is 200 steps down (which is good if you are eating a lot!)

Travel tips

  • The beach is not much to speak of and is 400 steps down so if you are coming to swim a lot you might want something with a pool or a bit further up or down the coast nearer the better swimming beaches.

Fantastic

May 2013 - Casa Alfonsina was very spacious and accommodated our family of 6 very comfortably. The views and the large terrace are gorgeous!

The owner went above and beyond to make our stay perfect by arranging for parking in a neighbors garage when we arrived at dusk and had no where to park.

Thank you Melanie for all you time in helping us find this villa... In the end, this couldn't have been more perfect for our family. We loved the views and the central location! Grazie mille!

Travel tips

  • This is a great location, however you need to be physically able to walk up/down the steps to get into town.
  • Rent a small car for easier parking and driving along the narrow coastal road.
  • Great little village with local market, butcher and restaurants.
  • We enjoyed taking the bus to/from Positano about 25 mins ride, drove to Ravello (very scenic ride) to see Villa Cimbrone which is fabulous with incredible views!

October 2012 - Loved our stay at Casa Alfonsina. The folks were helpful and kind. Bottom line, I found this website by a simple Google search, and I have already recommended this house and website to friends!

I loved being in Praiano... less touristy than Amalfi and Positano, but very close to both.

October 2012 - Great facility. furnished well and very comfortable. Great view.

To park, either you climb 250 stairs from the main street or walk and climb 50 stars and 300 meters to your car.

September 2012 - We all loved Casa Alfonsina and would certainly book this home again in the future. It had all the amenities we wished for and the view was outstanding!

The owner was very pleasant and accommodating with all our needs. She and her son were very professional and made us all feel immediately at home.

I will always contact Summer In Italy for future trips to Italy. They were prompt and detail oriented on all aspects of booking our trip from the beginning to end. I always felt confident throughout our trip that if I needed to contact them they would be there for us.

I highly recommend Casa Alfonsina and Summer In Italy.

August 2012 - We spent a glorius week at Casa Alfonsina, it was perfect for 3 couples. The hike up and down the stairs was challenging at first, but we soon got used to our daily workout, which kept our energy going.

The kitchen is large with all you need to prepare fantastic Italian meals. We liked the large refrigerator with ice maker and the American coffee maker. The clothes washer came in handy and everything dried fast on the top deck and smelled fresh.

We especially enjoyed the view from the upper deck where we ate our meals and watched the sunsets every night.

The owner, Teresa, was accessible and very attentive to our needs.

I highly recommend Summer in Italy to all my friends and clients. You have a great website with plenty of pictures and information to help plan a wonderful trip. Italy is our favorite destination and we cannot wait to return.

Travel tips

  • We love the small village of Praiano with the beautiful church and friendly residents.
  • There are 2 small grocery stores that receive fresh fruits and vegetables every day, a butcher shop and fish market.
  • There is a friendly tourist center with maps and all the info you need to enjoy your stay.
  • We took the bus to Sorrento and connected to the Circumvesuviana train to Pompeii.
  • We highly recommend taking a day trip to Capri with Positano Boats (office located by the church). It is a relaxing way to get there with swimming on the way.
  • Do not miss a trip to Amalfi and Ravello with the best pizza at La Vecchia Cantina.

July 2012 - We all loved it - beautiful view, very relaxing, with everything we needed at the house

You have a great site with very helpful information at every stage! Thank you!

Travel tips

  • Praiano is ideal for people wanting a relaxing time. My friends and I found Amalfi and Positano to be very busy on our day trips there.
  • To do: hire a lilo and chill at the local beach/cove, check out the club-in-a-cave Africana, rent a boat from Positano to tour the coast on your own, walk the Path of the Gods.
