The biggest jazz jam in Italy takes place every July in the medieval city of Perugia. The 40-year old tradition is a stalwart festival of the summer, and many jazz fans plan their vacations around it.

Umbria Jazz is held in different points around town, including the two beautiful and historic theaters, Teatro Morlacchi and Teatro Pavone, as well in the city's main square, Piazza IV Novembre. Other events take place in the stadium, known as the Arena Santa Giuliana, and the Carducci Gardens.

The festival attracts local acts and legends alike, with greats such as Miles Davis, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, BB King and Keith Jarrett having made appearances there. Tickets can be purchased online in advance.
