Pian di Sco'

Pian di Sco'

The City of Pian di Scò covers about 18 square kilometers on the slopes of Mount Pratomagno about 40 km from Arezzo and Florence. The territory is divided into two major centers: Pian di Scò and the village of Faella. Example of a pristine landscape of Tuscany, Pian di Scò ranges from forests of beech trees to the hills terraced with olive trees.

The name Pian di Scò is controversial: some say the name comes from Pian di Resco (named after the river that flows near the village), others from Aesculus (oak sacred to Jupiter). The history of Pian di Scò, until 1800 coincides with the Romanesque Church of Santa María in Scò. Under the Lordship of Florence in the parish of Santa Maria di Scò, which consisted of thirteen churches and monasteries of Gastra and Castelfranco di Sopra to counter the power of the Ubertini's and Pazzi's in Valdarno, Pian di Scò joined the league of Castelfranco. Thus the ancient medieval village, lived and developed around the church, became in 1809 the Community of Pian di Scò.
