Osteria Vecio FritolinThe Osteria Vecio Fritolin, just a few minutes away from the Rialto Bridge in the zone of Santa Croce and it is proud to occupy a site where people have been eating traditional Venetian food for over 100 years. The fritolini were born in the early 1800’s: the word comes from the Venetian dialect frizar, meaning to fry, for these early fast-food eateries offered fish fried on the spot, then wrapped in absorbent paper to eat immediately or to take away. These picturesque places have disappeared but the Vecio Fritolin is a lasting monument to a popular Venetian tradition once enjoyed by rich and poor alike and the restaurant continues to prepare this historic finger-food. The chef uses only fresh local products of the highest quality.
