An event that moves around town and celebrates the sea, the sun and the hometown hero who sang about his birthplace. The festival takes place in Polignano a Mare, where music great Domenico Modugno was from. You probably know him for his most beloved and world-renowned song, Volare. A photo in front of his statue with arms spread open while humming Volare is a must for any visit to the town!) The festival focuses on fish and the sea.

Mareviglioso, playing on the words "mare" (sea) and "meraviglioso" (marvelous), brings beauty, music and fun to the seaside town. It starts in the old town center and arrives at Grotta Ardito, to the south, a wide terrace overlooking the Adriatic and Polignano, where food stands and local crafts, along with excellent regional wines, are found.There are street artists, exhibits, old artisan crafts, and food -all to the background music of Domenico Modugno.

Highlights: street fair atmosphere; great seafood and homage to the area's fishermen and fishing traditions; music and dancing and concerts. The Palio del Mare is a palio event that includes a blessing of the fleet, a boat parade on the water, and a boating competition.

The Mareviglioso Festival is held towards the end of August every year; check for exact dates.
