It features a terrace with a view of the valley and the sea. You will be on a hill overlooking the sea, actually 7 km (about 4.3 miles) away from the sea and the splendid sandy beach of Acciaroli. There are a bedroom with a double bed and a single bed, a large living-room, a bathroom with shower, a second bathroom with only a sink and a toilet seat, and a kitchen. The place You will be in the historical center of medieval origins of San Mauro Cilento, gracious little town of the Parco Nazionale del Cilento (National Park of Cilento), of a thousand inhabitants, and located 500 meters (about 1,640 feet) above the sea. The small town of San Mauro Cilento is located on the slopes of Monte (Hill) Stella and it faces the sea. The town is surrounded by lands cultivated with olive groves and splendid oak chestnut woods. Weather is pleasant all year round. Even during hot summers, the temperatures are never too excessive, for they’re milded by the breeze coming from the sea and the fresh air coming from the woods. Here you will be able to get to know the inhabitants of the place and their simple way of living. You won’t see crowds of tourists but the warm hospitality of a typically Italian southern small town. From San Mauro Cilento the sea and the golden sand beaches of Acciaroli are easily reached, and during summer you can arrive there with convenient bus trips. A few feet away from the house you will have shops, bars, restaurants, and a large public parking area. Its history Casa Gianluigi B is an apartment inside an old stone building which is part of the historical center of San Mauro Cilento. It was built during the medieval times. The building has a history which is linked to the fall of the Eastern Roman Empire under the hands of the Turks in the middle of the fifteenth century. During that period important families related to the emperor, killed in battle, escaped from Constantinople (Istanbul nowadays ) and headed towards Cilento. It was here that the last heir of the throne of the Empire in the East, Rogerio Paleologo, lived in exile and where the dynasty of the last heirs of the Emperor Constantine was extinguished. The apartment Casa Gianluigi B is part of a large stone building, and the apartment is located on its upper and most panoramic position. In order to reach the apartment from the street, you will first enter a fascinating courtyard in the middle of which there is a well. A staircase of about 40 steps will lead you into the apartment. You will step into a large living-room illuminated by a large window which takes an entire wall. Through this window you will have a wide view of the surrounding hills and the sea far in the horizon. In the living-room you will have a table with chairs, a couch, armchairs, and a satellite-dish TV. The living-room communicates with the kitchen. The kitchen is furnished with a table and chairs. You will have a four-burner stove, an oven, a fridge with freezer, and a washing machine. From the living-room you can enter the spacious double bedroom. Besides the double bed, in this bedroom you can also have a single bed. From the bedroom you reach the bathroom with shower, large and comfortable. From the living-room you can reach the second bathroom, which features only the sink and the toilet seat. At Casa Gianluigi B, furnishings are complete and elegant. The terrace An outside staircase (about 20 steps) will allow you to go from the living-room to the terrace on the top of the apartment. The terrace is very spacious, and you can enjoy a 360° view of the surrounding hills and even embrace with your eyes a long stretch of coast far in the distance. The terrace is furnished with an umbrella and deck chairs. You will find it perfect to sunbathe or enjoy the sunset over the sea every evening. The beach The nearest beach is the long golden sand beach of Acciaroli. The water is clean and transparent, and the shallow sandy bottom is perfect even for kids to go for a swim. If you want you can use the services of the beach establishments of the place, which offer you parking space, umbrellas, and sun loungers. At the beach you will also have bars and restaurants. The climate is mild, and you will be able to go for a swim from late spring to mid autumn. Don’t miss the chance of enjoying the sunset over the sea from the beach: every evening is a fascinating and different spectacle of nature! Nearby tourist attractions While staying in San Mauro Cilento you will be able to visit both by land and sea the beautiful coast of the Parco Nazionale del Cilento (National Park of Cilento), which stretches from Agropoli to Palinuro. In Acciaroli, only 7 km (about 4.3 miles) away, you will have the tourist port, where you can rent convenient and economical ferries and hydrofoils during summer to Palinuro, Santa Maria di Castellabate, Agropoli, Salerno, Amalfi, Positano, Capri, Sorrento, and Naples. You can even rent boats for private tours or participate in fishing competitions, following the steps of Hemingway. Let’s not forget that Acciaroli was the fishermen’s town which inspired Hemingway to write the famous “The Old Man and the Sea”! Obviously visiting the famous Temples of Paestum, the museum of the place, and the archaeological ruins of Elea is almost an obligation. With a one-day tour you can also visit the archaeological ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Also unforgettable will be the visit to the Grottos of Pertosa and the Certosa (Chartreuse) of Padula, both easily visited on a day only. If you enjoy hiking, in the area of the Parco Nazionale (National Park) you will have several trails to be unraveled through the mountains.
