The apartment has been created inside an old watch tower, and it features a garden, a terrace, and a splendid view of the sea and with air conditioning. The apartment is 1 km (about 0.6 mile) away from the sea. Villa Merlata is in Conca dei Marini, a fishermen’s hamlet located between Amalfi and Positano. It is about 4 km (about 2.5 miles) away from Amalfi and 13 km (about 8 miles) away from Positano. There is a living-room with a kitchenette, a double bedroom on a mezzanine, and a bathroom with shower. The place Villa Merlata is a watch tower which dates to mid sixteenth-century. During that period several watch towers were built along the coast of Amalfi in most panoramic places in order to protect people from raids by the Saracens coming from the sea. Torre Merlata is one of the aforementioned watch towers, and it has remained intact up to nowadays as it preserves the elegant merlons of the battlement or crenellation on its top, which renders it unique all over the coast. The tower stands high on a prominent stretch of coast about 100m (about 328 feet) above sea level. From its top, your eyes will behold a vast panorama of sea, the picturesque Cape of Conca dei Marini. Every bit of scenery in this area is really breathtaking. The house is part of the small historical center of Conca dei Marini. You will be able to reach it quite easily: from the main road, all you have to do is walk for about 50 m (about 164 feet) on a footpath. You will be able to reach it quite easily: from the main road, all you have to do is walk for about 50 m (about 164 feet) on a footpath consisting of about 50 steps. You can park you car along the road. In this area the houses are distributed along a little road carved out on the slopes of the coast. All the houses face the sea and the sun, being separated one from another by their flower gardens, lush vegetable gardens, and small lemon pergolas. Going to the upper/lower part of the village here, just as in all the Amalfi Coast, means taking the several picturesque narrow stone-step stairways. The real inhabitants of the place live here, with their tranquil pace of life away from crowds of tourists. However, all the tourist attractions of the coast are quite at hand, specially one of the most famous and visited one, which is the Grotta dello Smeraldo (Emerald Grotto), only 2 km (about 1.2 mile) away. The house The garden... Villa Merlata is an actual tower. You reach it after crossing a small square garden paved and fenced-in by an old stone wall. The garden is rich in flowers, and you will find a table, chairs, and deck chairs at your disposal. There is also a barbecue corner. …its interior… From the garden an outdoor staircase will allow you to get into the tower. Inside you will have unique interiors, with a really high barrel ceiling. A tall arched window illuminates the room: through this window you will see the Cape of Conca dei Marini from above, which is a subtle green promontory surmounted by an impressive watch tower. It is a view if exceptional beauty which will please your eyes throughout your whole vacation! The space inside the tower has been arranged so as to turn it into a comfortable and nice vacation home. Those holes which were once ancient embrasures through which arquebuses were aimed at assaulters are now small windows or niches where decorative pieces of local artifact are displayed. The tower has been vertically divided by a mezzanine. On the lower part you will have the living-room and the bathroom, whereas on the mezzanine you have see the double bed. The living-room is cozy: you will have a comfortable couch, a table with chairs, a television, and a kitchenette. From the living-room you can reach the bathroom with shower. The kitchenette is equipped with a four-burner stove, an oven, and a fridge with freezer. ...the panoramic terrace From inside the tower you can reach the top terrace. The floor of the terrace is not flat, but a bit inclined and slopy, just like the shape of the tower’s ceiling. That is why placing a table or chairs on the terrace is not possible. From the terrace you can enjoy a 360° view of the sea and the coast, which is rendered even more enthralling seen through the beautiful crenellation frame. The beaches To reach the beach you have several options. The closest beach is the small beach of Cape Conca, located in a suggestive inlet and rated amongst the ten most beautiful beaches of Italy. It is at approximately 2 km (1.5 miles). You will be able to walk there leaving from the main coastal road, along a pathway that also includes 200 steps. In order to arrive at the beach during spring/summer, you can use the local minibus which is offered to you free-of-charge by one beach establishment, where you will even see seawater pools. World-famous celebrities (from Jacqueline Kennedy to Caroline of Monaco) have chosen this place to spend their vacation in villas hidden among the rocks and scattered along this pathway. You will also be able to reach another suggestive beach by car (approximately 3 km, 2 miles) or along a real hiking trail, with a difference in height of 100 meters (330 feet). This is the beach of the Fjord of Furore. Both are walks that you can't miss if you are fond of breathtaking seascapes, and if climbing steps gives you no troubles. Other beaches that can be reached more comfortably, by car or by bus, are the beach of Praia and the beach of Amalfi, which are approximately 4 km (2.5 miles) away. Restaurants and bars are open during the good season on all these beaches. You will also be able to rent beach umbrellas and deck chairs, as well as board small boats to reach lovely and secluded small beaches. Nearby tourist attractions Villa Merlata is a great starting point to visit the entire coast. It is only 5 km (3 miles) from the quay of Amalfi, where you will be able to board ferries and mini-cruises to visit the islands of Capri and Ischia, Positano, Sorrento, Naples and Salerno, Agropoli and the coast of Cilento National Park. The SITA buses link together the villages along the coast, and it is easy to reach Pompeii, Herculaneum and the Royal Palace of Caserta. The bus stop is at 500 meters (550 yards) from the house. The closest shops are at 50 meters (55 yards) from the house. Moreover, if you like hiking you will be able to easily reach the famous trail along the ridge of the mountains that overlook the Amalfi Coast. For its extraordinary beauty, made of precipices and breathtaking views, the trail is called "Sentiero degli Dei": Path of the Gods. The closest airport is in Naples (60 km).
