It has a lovely, well-kept, private garden from which you will enjoy very nice views of the surrounding mountains as well as a partial view of the lake. It is located in the small hamlet of San Giovanni, roughly a mile from the center of Bellagio. Inside the house you will have a double bedroom, two twin bedrooms, two bathrooms, a spacious living-room with a fireplace and a divan bed that sleeps two guests, and a large and well-equipped kitchen. The place Casa Lory is a cute three-storey house which is located in the hamlet of San Giovanni, a suburb of Bellagio which can be reached with a five-minute walk. It is approximately two kilometers (roughly one mile) from the center Bellagio itself. San Giovanni is a characteristic fishermen's hamlet locate on the shores of Lake Como. In San Giovanni you will find a pebble beach, a highly recommended cafe and restaurant, called Mella, where you will be served fresh lake fish brought to the table directly from the boat of the owner (well, it does stop in the kitchen, of course!). There is also a grocery store, as well as the church of San Giovanni, dating back over 1000 years. You will be able to reach Casa Lory by bus or by car. As the bus stop is approximately 500 meters from the house (550 yards) and taxi service is not always readily available, we recommend having a car to tour the area. However, once you are at the villa you will find that, if you like walking, using the buses and the ferries you will be able to reach the many interesting lakeside villages, as well as the towns of Como and Lecco, and their train stations. Private boat trips on the lake can be arranged as well. If you have a car, you will be able to park it in the garage located below the building. Please note that in order to reach the house you will have to drive along a short alley which appears to be intimidatingly narrow. It is actually larger than it seems, and even a mid-sized/moderately large car will go through folding the side mirrors. We do recommend, however, renting a medium-sized vehicle rather than a large one. In the basement of the building you will also find a shared token-operated clothes dryer, as well as a shared ice-maker. Casa Lory is divided into five apartments (A, B, C, D, E): one takes up the entire ground floor (apartment A), two are located on the first floor (apartments B and C) and two are on the attic floor (apartments D and E). The apartment Casa Lory A takes up the entire ground floor of the building. The apartment is large and luminous, and all the room have glass doors overlooking the garden. The style is modern yet traditional, with floors tiled with wood and terracotta tiles that are at the same time practical and elegant. From the entrance door you will enter the living room, which is equipped with two sofas, one of which opens up into a bed to sleep two guests. The living room has huge glass doors that overlook the extremely well-kept garden and make you feel on vacation the moment you step in. Here you will find a fireplace, as well as a satellite television. The living room is the only room of the house that is equipped with an air conditioning unit. From the living room you will be able to enter a short corridor that gives access to the bedroom with a double bed and to one of the two bathrooms, equipped with bath tub and shower. Again from the living room, walking across an intermediate sitting room, you will reach the large and well equipped kitchen. The kitchen has a table with chairs, a refrigerator with freezer, a four-burner cooker, oven, dishwasher and small appliances, including an American-style coffee-maker and a kettle. Strategically located across the garden, you will find a barbecue. A corridor will take you from this part of the house to the two other twin bedrooms and to the second bathroom, which has a shower. Along this corridor you will also find a small service area where the washing machine is installed. The large garden of Casa Lory A is arranged on three sides of the building, and it is equipped with tables, chairs and a large umbrella, as well as with the barbecue. This garden is reserved for your own use, and it is not shared with the guests of the other apartments (who share a separate garden area). From the garden you will have a view of the mountains that surround the area and, partly, of the lake, which can be briefly seen in the background, behind the trees. You will love the garden: it is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the sun. It boasts a century-old olive tree and you can tell how much love and effort the owners put in making it special for their guests. Nearby tourist attractions While staying at Casa Lory you will be in tranquil location, which is an excellent base for day trips throughout the area. You will enjoy the feeling of living amongst the locals and being part of the community. You will be approximately 90 minutes from Lugano, Bergamo and Milan, and roughly 30 minutes from Como and Lecco. The popular attraction of Villa Carlotta, in Tremezzo, will be an easy trip by ferry across the lake, and you will be able to walk to the botanic gardens of Villa Melzi. In the area you will find a wide range of tourist services: fitness center, squash facilities, and mountain bike rentals, a sports club with swimming pool, tennis court, sauna, and gym. Water skiing is also available, and there is an 18-hole golf course 30 minutes away. From Chevrio (a 15-minute drive) you will be able to enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Como. Several cafes and restaurants, as well as shops, are available in the center of Bellagio (a 5-minute drive or a 20-minute walk). Bellagio is the most well-known resort of the area, often referred as "the pearl of the lake". It lies at the tip of the headland that splits Lake Como's two branches (the west branch toward the town of Como, and the east branch toward Lecco). Its charm fascinated, in past centuries, artists and poets, such as Pliny the Younger, who once owned what is now Villa Serbelloni, and then Taine, Longfellow, Twain, Stendhal, Flaubert, Faure, Liszt. The original charm is still intact, and makes of this destination a must-see for travellers to Lake Como. The closest airports are Milano Malpensa, Milano Linate and Bergamo Orio al Serio.
