The villa offers a balcony above the sea, a garden and an enchanting view of the Amalfi Coast, from Praiano to Positano and Capri. The villa has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a spacious kitchen, and a large sitting room with a divan bed that sleeps two people. Villa Daria occupies an entire floor of a historic three-story building that clings to the rocky coastline. The ocean view will spread out before you, offering a fascinating aspect from which to enjoy the glorious Amalfi Coast: between you and the sea there is only a narrow strip of green-fringed coastline, forming a narrow pathway that is capped by an ancient rectangular guard tower. Villa Daria is located in the “Vettica” neighborhood of the historic center of Praiano, on the sloping land that extends from the main coastal road down to the ocean. Here, there are small whitewashed buildings with vaulted roofs, connected by narrow vertical stairways and equally narrow lanes which can be traversed only on foot. Along these alleys you will find ancient votive shrines, each containing the image of a Saint painted on ceramic tiles. The owners of the properties along the alleys used to build these small shrines on the external walls to mark and protect the property itself. Walking along these alleys is pleasant, notwithstanding the steps, because at every turn a new and enchanting view of the coast and of the sea suddenly appears in front of you. Every house here has a small garden or a yard full of flowers. Scattered among the houses there are small plots of land, where neat vegetable gardens are grown, overflowing at any time of the year with vegetables and perfumed citrus trees. These gardens are as nice to see as flower gardens. This is where the real residents of Praiano live, away from the tourist crowds. You will find shops, cafés/bars and restaurants roughly 50 meters (50 yards) away. To reach the villa from the main coastal road, you will first need to walk down a short stairway of approximately 15 steps to reach the piazza of a splendid seventeenth-century baroque church dedicated to St. Gennaro. This broad piazza is angled towards the sea, and from here you will be able to enjoy a particularly charming panoramic view of the Amalfi Coast. A narrow pedestrian road leads away from the piazza—after walking along this path for about 150 meters (165 yards), you will arrive at the villa. Along this walkway, there are 109 stairs. The last part of the journey will take you down a small stairway that faces directly onto the sea. Here, the sea forms a fantastic narrow passageway, watched over by the ancient Torre di Grado, constructed in the 1600s to defend the area from invaders who approached by sea. The stairs lead to a patch of land cultivated with lemon trees and a vegetable garden which extends onto the cliffs that perch above the sea. This land belongs to Villa Daria, and is lovingly cultivated by the owners. The land here is jagged, much like the cliffs that support it. One part of this land, called “il Belvedere”, or “the Lookout”, is on an impressive outcropping of the cliff, surrounded on three sides by the sea. From this land, the sea can be reached by a pathway. When you reach the water, you will find a concrete platform from which you can bathe in the ocean. On the land surrounding the villa, and on a terrace adjoining the entrance to the house, you will find table, chairs and deckchairs where you can relax in the open air. The building, of which Villa Daria forms one part, rises from this land to face the sea. The house has a long corridor which leads to the various rooms. The bedroom with the double bed has access to a splendid terrace, from which one can enjoy enchanting sea views. From the bed itself, nothing but sea and sky spreads out before you—the sea view punctuated only by the silhouettes of the small islands known as “Li Galli”, and the distant coastline of Capri. The terrace is spacious enough for you to relax on it in a lounge chair. The other rooms have windows which offer unobstructed views of the sea and the green coastline. You will find a good-sized room with two single beds, and a sitting room with comfortable armchairs and a convertible divan bed that sleeps two. The kitchen is located near the entryway, and is pretty and spacious. Here, you will find a comfortable table where you can enjoy long, relaxing lunches, as well as benches that line the walls. The kitchen has a four-burner cooker, oven, refrigerator with freezer, and washing machine. From the window, you can look out on the coastline and the sea. One side of the room contains an antique stone coal-burning stove, which is still in working order. The bathroom has a bath tub with shower head. The furnishings are elegant and complete. The clear air is perfumed by the lemons and the sea, and the beauty of the seascape is both touching and exhilarating. Everything around you exudes a sense of cheerfulness and joy of life: you will understand that you have arrived in a special place, and you will keep the memories of this vacation forever in your heart. Nearby Villa Daria, you will find a number of public access paths to the sea, which lead you through the typical terrain that the Amalfi Coast is famous for. The first, and closest, ocean access is from a concrete platform next to the Torre di Grado, situated on a rocky outcropping above the water. Next to the tower there is a small inlet in the cliff that can be reached on foot. From this inlet you will be able to dive. It is a very striking spot, not very well known at all, and visited just by a few locals. The other point of access to the ocean, again on foot and walking along a path that includes 300 steps and 300 meters (330 yards) through the ancient village of Praiano, is “Gavitella” beach. Here the beach is at the bottom of a small and verdant rocky inlet. During the good weather, you will be able to reach Gavitella beach in a comfortable and enjoyable way by sea. Indeed, a ferry service with small boats will take you to this beach both from the beach of Praia and from the beach of Positano. The service is provided by the manager of the beach facilities at Gavitella and it is complimentary for customers of the facilities or of the restaurant. Near the Gavitella beach, and also remarkable, both to see and to swim in, is the “Fontana dell’Altare” (the fountain of the altar): a natural swimming pool hollowed out in a cave by the sea. Other famous beaches nearby are La Praia (approximately 2 km/1.5 miles), and the beach of Positano (approximately 5 km/3 miles). At these beaches you will find beach facilities and a wide choice of bars/cafes, as well as charming restaurants and clubs that open in the evening as well. Here, you can rent boats and take part in a range of aquatic sporting activities. Villa Daria can be reached by bus: the stop for the bus that connects the villages of the coast is approximately 100 meters (110 yards) from the villa. You will not need a car. If you have one, you will be able to park it along the road, either free of charge or in paid parking spaces, depending on availability, at a distance of at least 300 meters (330 yards) from the house. Praiano is situated 7 km (4.5 miles) from Positano, and 7 km (4.5 miles) from Amalfi. From Praiano you can easily reach the tourist centers on the Amalfi Coast and the Sorrento Coast, as well as Capri. While staying at Villa Daria, you will enjoy a vacation in a natural environment of amazing beauty, and you will also have an ideal base from which to visit Pompeii, Paestum, Naples and the Royal Palace of Caserta. You will be able to visit the famous beaches of the Amalfi Coast and the characteristic fashion and artisans' shops, as well as attend the many cultural and artistic happenings that take place throughout the year. Those who like go out at night will find that the Amalfi Coast has a lot to offer, from piano-bars to very exclusive night clubs. If you like hiking, in the area you will find walks that are famous for their extraordinary beauty, such as the "Sentiero degli Dei": the Path of the Gods.
