Casa Marianna A is a charming apartment of 40 square meters (approximately
430 square feet) which sleeps two persons, with a terrace with a wide and
splendid view of the sea. It is equipped with air conditioning and parking
space. It is at approximately 1 km (half a mile) from the sea.
It is located in Conca dei Marini, a fishermen's burg situated between Amalfi
and Positano, and it is approximately 4 km (2.5 miles) from Amalfi and 13 km (8
miles) from Positano.
Casa Marianna A is part of an ancient building that clings to the rocky cliff,
placed on a picturesque tract of coast at a height of 100 meters (330 feet)
above the sea level, and almost sheer above the sea itself. Every view of the
landscape in this area is truly breathtaking. The house is part of the small
historical center of Conca dei Marini. You will reach it from the road climbing
45 steps.
In this area the houses are scattered along a narrow road cut into the sloping
coast. They all face the sea and the sun, and they are separated by gardens,
thriving vegetable gardens and lemon pergolas. The vertical connections, here
like all along the Amalfi Coast, are made with many picturesque "scalinatelle" (narrow
public stairways) with stone steps.
Here the authentic locals live their life, with its quiet rhythm, and there is
no crowd of tourists.
Yet, the tourist spots of the coast are all right at hand, beginning with one of
the most popular, the Emerald Grotto, which is only 2 km (1.5 miles) away.
Casa Marianna A consists of one large room where you will find a sleeping area
with a double bed and a living area. The sleeping area is separated from the
living room by a wall in which an arched window opens, and from the corridor by
an arched opening. The window between the sleeping area and the living area can
be closed with curtains.
The living area is furnished with table and chairs, a sofa and a satellite television. There is also a closet which encloses the
kitchenette, and a roomy bathroom with shower.
The kitchenette is equipped with a four-burner electric cooker and a
refrigerator.
The furnishing of Casa Marianna A is luminous, elegant and welcoming. The floors
are tiled with lucid hand-painted majolica tiles, a characteristic local
craftsmanship.
In the living area there is a large glass door that will let you enter a
graceful terrace, shaded by an arched porch, and equipped with a small table and
chairs. While still standing inside the house, you will see, beyond the
balustrade of the terrace, only the blue of the sky and of the sea, framed by
the white arch of the porch.
When you lean out from the terrace you will find out that the view of the sea
and of the Amalfi Coast is truly spectacular.
Below you will see a verdant tract of coast, where lemons are grown, and the
characteristic Cape Conca, a thin saddle-shaped ridge where a sixteenth-century
watch tower still stands.
At the horizon, on your left, you will see the entire arch of the Gulf of
Salerno, all the way to the coast of Cilento. On your right you will see the
arch of the coast of Amalfi, which includes a splendid view of the small islands
called "Li Galli" and of the Faraglioni rocks of Capri.
To reach the beach you have several options. The closest beach is the small
beach of Cape Conca, located in a suggestive inlet and rated amongst the ten
most beautiful beaches of Italy.
It is at approximately 2 km (1.5 miles). You will be able to walk there leaving
from the main coastal road, along a pathway that also includes 200 steps.
World-famous celebrities (from Jacqueline Kennedy to Caroline of Monaco) have
chosen this place to spend their vacation in villas hidden among the rocks and
scattered along this pathway.
You will also be able to reach another suggestive beach by car (approximately 3
km, 2 miles) or along a real hiking trail that start at 50 meters (50 yards)
from Casa Marianna A, with a difference in height of 100 meters (330 feet). This
is the beach of the Fjord of Furore.
Both are walks that you can't miss if you are fond of breathtaking seascapes,
and if climbing steps gives you no troubles.
Other beaches that can be reached more comfortably, by car or by bus, are the
beach of Praia and the beach of Amalfi, which are approximately 4 km (2.5 miles)
away.
Restaurants and bars are open during the good season on all these beaches. You
will also be able to rent beach umbrellas and deck chairs, as well as board
small boats to reach lovely and secluded small beaches.
Casa Marianna A is a great starting point to visit the entire coast. It is only
5 km (3 miles) from the quay of Amalfi, where you will be able to board ferries
and mini-cruises to visit the islands of Capri and Ischia, Positano, Sorrento,
Naples and Salerno.
The SITA buses link together the villages along the coast, and it is easy to
reach Pompeii, Herculaneum and the Royal Palace of Caserta. The bus stop is at
500 meters (550 yards) from the house. The closest shops are at 200 meters (220
yards) from the house.
Moreover, if you like hiking you will be able to easily reach the famous trail
along the ridge of the mountains that overlook the Amalfi Coast. For its
extraordinary beauty, made of precipices and breathtaking views, the trail is
called "Sentiero degli Dei": Path of the Gods.
