There is a terrace and a garden, which has a small swimming pool 4 m x 3 m x 1 m (13 feet x 9 feet x 3 feet). It has splendid sea and coast views. The villa is air-conditioned and there is a parking space. There are three bedrooms, an open plan living area divided into a kitchen, dining room and sitting room, two bathrooms and a toilet. One of the bedrooms is actually a suite as it has its own large lounge and a fantastic terrace with sea view. Villa Rachele is part of a three-storey house built on a slope and clings to the rocky coast. Villa Rachele itself covers the bottom and middle level. A totally separate apartment, with an independent entrance, is on the top level (it has a terrace overlooking the garden of Villa Rachele) and is occupied by locals. All the rooms face towards the sun and the sea. The terraced garden is planted with trees and also faces the sea. An outside stairway link the different garden levels. The main entrance is at a higher level than the rest of the house. At ground level there is a pretty doorway with an antique marble column beside it and two gates, which lead, one to the garden and the other to the parking space. All the habitable parts of the house have been built on a slope lower than the road; therefore, even though the villa is in the centre of Praiano, it is well protected from outside noise. As soon as you enter the house there is a nice, wide curved stairway built in the '700s style By going down this stair you arrive in the upper storey of the Villa, where there are two double beds, a bathroom with jet shower and a toilet. The bedroom suite is really large and quite fascinating. At the entrance of the room there is a two-seater settee placed in front of an antique grey stone fireplace. Just the thing for a moment of relaxing. There are two long, old steps also made of grey stone, which divides this part of the room from the sleeping area. There you will find a double bed. The floors are magnificent because they are tiled in '700s ceramic in colourful green, yellow and blue. There is a large arched glass door on the sea-facing wall, which allows you to see the sky and sea from inside the room. This door leads out onto a magnificent terrace of roughly 20 square meters (215 square feet), which is overlooked by a porch closed on three sides. The terrace is furnished with two sun loungers and a remarkable iron wrought table and two chairs. The terrace is enclosed by iron railings on two sides and by a low wall at the front. This wall is covered in flowers and colourful geraniums and frames the splendid panorama of the sea, the sky and the coast. The other double bedroom on this floor is decorated in white and blue ceramic tiles. It has two large luminous windows, which give sea views. The third bedroom along with a living area and a large bathroom with shower is on the lower floor set apart from the rest of the house. This bedroom has two single beds. There is a glass door which leads directly out into a pretty corner of the garden. The sitting room is open plan with the kitchen area separated from the rest of the room by a small wall. The dining area is furnished with a table and some chairs. The area nearest the garden is the actual sitting room and is furnished with settees, armchairs, a television and a single sofa bed. There is a lovely stone fireplace in the middle of the kitchen area and the kitchen itself is well equipped. There is a cooker, an electric oven, a microwave, a large fridge/freezer, a dishwasher and other small electrical appliances. The washing machine is in a small utility room, which leads out into the garden. The sitting area with its settees and armchairs is in front of arched French windows that are nearly as high as the walls and faces the sea and garden. One the sidewalls there are other arched windows, which allow you to enjoy the beauty of the garden from inside the room. The sitting room leads out onto a terrace filled with flowering Bougainvillea. There are characteristic stone benches and is enclosed by an antique balustrade. This terrace leads out to both a pretty part of the garden full of flowerbeds and to a garden below that you reach by going down ten steps. This is a big, square garden and is situated at the lowest level. It is cool and shady due to the many trees that grow with extraordinary luxuriance, which is typical of the Amalfitan Coast. There are citrus, peach and ornamental exotic trees. Under the trees there is a large table made of stone and wrought iron, chairs and sun loungers. The swimming pool of roughly 12 square meters (130 square feet) is in the sunniest part of the garden and is 1 meter (3 feet) deep. At the foot of the side garden there is a wall from where you can enjoy a splendid view of the coast below. Above the wall is a romantic colonnade covered in an abundance of Wisteria. Between each column the wall takes the shape of stone benches that are shaded by a pergola. This is a perfect place to rest and contemplate the blueness of the sea and sky. From there you can also enjoy the coastline from where you can make out an antique tower from the Saracen era at Praiano and the unmistakeable headland of Conca dei Marini. It is a place of romantic dreams of which you will take back with you in your heart at the end of your holiday. Villa Rachele was originally a beautiful and impressive farmhouse with arched vaults. As happens many times the Villa was bought and restored by foreigners who came as tourists and became enchanted by these places which are considered to be some of the most beautiful in the world. Whoever ordered the restoration work certainly loved the place. They knew how to appreciate and put to good use the antique artwork and culture of the place including the production of hand-painted Majolica. The floors have been made of richly decorated Majolica of the‘700s, a lot of which has been salvaged from local antique churches. Each floor is differently decorated and therefore you can admire a variety of different elegant designs in rich colours, which makes this Villa seem like a living museum of old ceramic. The house is richly and completely furnished with antique furniture. It is welcoming and mirrors the owner’s personality. Villa Rachele will make you feel as if you are wanted guests at a friend’s house instead of tourists renting any house for the holiday period. Although there is a parking space inside a wrought iron gate for the guests’ use, a car is not really necessary. The Villa is in the centre of Praiano. The local bus that takes you to Positano is 20 meters (22 yards) from the house while the bus stop for further away towns is 600 meters (650 yards) away. The grocer is 10 meters (11 yards) away. In the area where Villa Rachele is situated the local people live their quiet lives surround by the splendid, natural beauty of the coast, the sea and the sky. The neighbourhood is not full of tourist and the amenities for them. There are only a few shops and the friendly faces of the local people passing by. By the way, do not be surprised if they all greet you when you meet in the street. It would be nice to be ready to answer their courtesy with a smile.... The lively and happy holiday life of the Amalfitan Coast however, is near at hand: as near as 600 meters (650 yards) you will find nice restaurants and marvellous nightclubs situated by the sea. Positano is 6 km (3.5 miles) away with its colourful streets full of shops and boutiques where you can buy clothes and local craft ware. All this is around the Spiaggio Grande (Big Beach) along with lots of other ideas for the pleasure of the tourist. If you want to go to the beach there is a bus that will take you to either Positano or Praia. However you can reach Praia on foot by following a fantastic footpath, which in parts is actually dug out of the rock at a summit shear above the sea. Another characteristic beach near Praiano is called Gavitella. This can only be reached by going down 400 steps and is situated in a picturesque natural setting below the town. The bars and restaurants near the beaches are open during the summer season. For those who enjoy walking there are signpost pathways famous for their extraordinary beauty, such as the “Sentiero degli Dei” (Pathway of the Gods)... A holiday at Villa Rachele is perfect for those who want to feel the authentic spell of the Amalfitan Coast in a Villa that has a unique character and who want to keep away from the frenetic holiday life in overcroded areas. The most famous tourist centres though, are in easy reach. The local bus at 600 meters (650 yards) away takes you to the bus stop to catch the buses to Amalfi, Positano. Sorrento, Naples, Pompei, Paestum and others. At both Amalfi 8 km (5 miles) and Positano 6 km (3.5 miles) there are ferries to the coastal towns and also to the Island of Capri.
