Casa Armonia is a fascinating ancient house of Positano, of 90 square meters
(approximately 970 square feet) which sleeps four persons. It has a terrace of
10 square meters (approximately 107 square feet) and splendid, wide view of the
sea and of Positano. It is equipped with air conditioning and satellite
television.
It has two bedrooms, a sitting room, a living room with fireplace, a kitchen, a
bathroom and a terrace with an outdoor shower.
It is situated in the high, residential part of Positano, in a pedestrian
precinct, and you need to descend 110 steps to reach the roadway, where you will
find the bus stop and a variety of shops.
Casa Armonia is perfect for those who wish to spend a holiday in an area where
the genuine residents of the place live, and not only other tourists. Here you
will find, in the house and in the surrounding environment, all the flavours of
the original way of life, not yet spoilt by tourism.
The main entrance, decorated by a stone arch, opens on a tiny pedestrian square.
The house is a typical building of the '700s, composed by of a loggia that faces
the sun and the sea, and of four rooms on a single level, topped on the outside
by round domes, which indoor become high vaulted ceilings.
Positano has become famous all over the worlds thanks to its spell, cast on
foreign artists and intellectuals, who have often bought and restored the
ancient houses of the village, taking great care in keeping the ancient
structure.
Often these houses are for their owners not just a holiday house, but rather a
nest for their soul, a charming place to return to, often from very far away,
year after year, to feel once again the emotions that this unique place can
give.
Casa Armonia is one of these houses, chosen by its owners for the spell of its
ancient structure (who has been left untouched, even when it meant to sacrifice
comfort), for its position in a bunch of other ancient houses that cling to the
rocky coast, and for the incomparable view that can be enjoyed from its terrace.
From the lovely entrance door, which is at the top of a flight of five or six
stone steps, you will enter directly in a room furnished with sofas and a
writing desk. This room, like the others, has the characteristic, authentic very
high vaulted ceiling, typical of the ancient houses of the Amalfi Coast. This
way of building was used to provide natural air-conditioning to the house, as it
allows for a circulation of the air that keeps the house cool in the summer and
warm during the winter.
An arch, screened by a curtain, connects the sitting room to the living room.
Here you will find a dining table, another sofa next to a nice stone fireplace,
the entrance door to the kitchen and a glass door to enter the terrace.
The terrace of Casa Armonia is indeed a special place to enjoy the charming view
of Positano: in front of you there will be only the sky, the sea and the
unmistakable profile of the high rocky cliff sheer above the sea, covered by the
vegetation and spotted by white small houses. If you look below, at ten meters
you will see a small garden, the roofs of a couple of other villas, and then sea
and sky.
From one side of the terrace you will see, from above, a view of the nearby
small lovely square of the "Chiesa Nuova" (the "New Church"), which is a
peculiar octagonal building, with a green amphiteater made by the steep hills
that surround the small bay of Positano on the background.
The largest part of the terrace is shaded by a pergola, and two long benches,
covered with pillows, are built into the outside wall. On the terrace there are
two small table with chairs, and lined on the thick short wall tiled with
majolica tiles, large terracotta pots where geraniums, jasmines and
bougainvilleas.
It is a perfect frame for an "al fresco" breakfast and to enjoy the sunset or
the moonlight over Positano.
In a corner of the terrace there is a brickwork shower box, if you wish to take
a shower outside and dry in the sun.
An area of this ancient terrace still has the original majolica tiles of the
'700s, with a pattern that resembles a coloured marble mosaic, which have served
as a model to rebuild the ancient hand-made floor of the terrace and of the
adjacent rooms.
From the living room you will enter a small kitchen, which has a lovely small
window with a view of the sea and is equipped with four-burner cooker, microwave
oven, refrigerator with freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and small
appliances.
The remaining part of the house is made up of two bedrooms, which are connected
to each other and to the bathroom. The bedroom with a double bed has a glass
door to enter the terrace and a window. In a corner of the room there is a
magnificent grand piano.
The bedroom with the double bed is connected to the bedroom with two single
beds, which also has a window with a panoramic view, and which is connected to
the bathroom.
The bathroom has a second door that opens on the living area. It has a bath tub
with shower head.
The furnishing of the house has been invented and composed in time, choosing and
collecting antiques and handicrafts objects, each of which contains, for the
person who chose them, a memory and a soul.
If you love things that have the spell of time and of life, you will appreciate
all this. You will feel like you are spending your time not in a perfect
modern-day holiday house, but rather in a place that old-time friends have
opened for you as their welcome guest.
Casa Armonia is located in a very quiet area of Positano, amidst stairways and
small alleys that make up a neat maze, which has not been spoilt by the assault
of the places for tourists.
You will find that the cheerful, lively, chaos of the area of Positano most
visited by tourists begins 110 steps below.
You will reach the road where the bus stops and where you will find cafes,
restaurants and grocery stores along a stairway.
From this road you will be able to reach the center of Positano and the beach
with the local bus.
But at least once during you stay you will have to take a special walk: from
Casa Armonia all the way down to the beach. It is a walk of a few hundred steps,
which unravels along stairways and alleys that offer fantastic views, and that
will allow you to see Positano in a rather unusual way.
Staying at Casa Armonia you will enjoy a relaxing holiday in a place that is not
perfect as a house built for tourists can be, but has the charm of the real
things, perfect if you are looking for this kind of luxury in your holiday home.
The local bus will take you in just a few minutes to the most elegant shopping
streets, to the famouse beach, to night clubs and restaurants. The ferry and the
long-distance bus will allow you to comfortably visit the other famous tourist
spots of the coast of Amalfi and Sorrento, as well as Pompeii and Paestum.
