Holiday Home Description

Villa Carmen is a small ancient house of Praiano, with a splendid view of the sea. It is 80 square meters (approximately 860 square feet) large, and it sleeps six persons. There are two terraces, of 10 and 15 square meters (approximately 107 and 160 square feet), a balcony and a rustic garden, all of them with a wide view of the sea.

The house is built on two levels, and it has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living room and a kitchen. It is equipped with central heating.

Villa Carmen is located in the heart of the historical center of Praiano, which is an ancient fishermen's village located halfway between Amalfi and Positano, and made up of a cluster of small white houses that cling to the rocky cliff, sheer above the sea.

Seen from a distance, it seem that the houses have been built one above the other, following the contour of the steep coast. When you take a closer look you find out that they are separated by thriving gardens and vegetable gardens dug into the side of the cliff. They are reached along narrow alleys and picturesque "scalinatelle" (stairways cut into the cliff), which seem to reach for the sky or dive straight into the sea.

Villa Carmen is just one of these cute small houses, white-washed, with the shape of a cube, topped by its typical barrel dome, and clinging to the sloping terrain. You will reach it from the road walking through a tiny yard, shared with another similar house, where bushes of flowers and roses frame well-arranged rows of salad and other vegetables.

You will enter the house through a small entrance door that will take you to a large terrace, equipped with a table and deck chairs, from where you will only see sky and sea.

From the terrace you will enter the living room, which has a balcony from where you will be able to admire a wide panorama of the sea and of the coast. Looking at the sea on your left you will see the inlet of Cape Conca, on the right a nice shot of the rocky cliff, covered by olive trees, that dives into the sea. Looking below, you will see a narrow horizontal stretch of small green vegetable gardens, and a stretch of candid roofs of small houses, with their white profile standing against the blue of the sea and of the sky. Even if you are sitting in the living room, looking through the glass doors you will see only sea and sky.

The living room has a characteristic high vaulted ceiling, and it is roomy and furnished in a welcoming and elegant way. Inside you will find a dining table, a sofa and small armchairs.

From the living room you will enter the kitchen, which is well-equipped with four-burner cooker, oven, refrigerator with freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The kitchen has a nice window with a view of the sea, and it is close by the terrace, so that it will be easier to set up outdoor meals.

To reach the bedrooms you will have to descend to the lower level along an internal stairway. The two bedrooms are spacious, and they comfortably contain a double bed and a single bed each. Next to the bedrooms there are two bathrooms: one is "en suite" with a shower, the other one has a bath tub. Both bedrooms have glass doors to enter a second spacious terrace with a view of the sea. A couple of meters (yards) below this terrace there is a small rustic gardens, where vegetables are grown.

The area of Praiano where Villa Carmen is located is inhabited by authentic locals, who live their peaceful life framed by the splendid natural beauty of the coast, of the sky and of the sea.

At close distance from the villa you will not find crowds of tourists, nor the clutter of tourist shops and restaurant: you will see just a few shops selling basic items, and the friendly faces of the locals that you will meet in the streets. By the way, don't be surprised if everyone here will be saying hello when they meet you in the street - get ready to greet them and to smile back!

Still, the vitality and the happy vacation life of the coast of Amalfi are close at hand: starting at just one kilometer (half a mile) from the villa you will find nice restaurants and wonderful night club on the sea. At approximately 6 km (4 miles), in Positano, there are colourful shopping streets, where you will be able to shop for fashion and local hand-made goods. By the Spiaggia Grande (the main beach) of Positano you will find famous tourist attractions.

If you enjoy staying at the beach, you will be able to reach the beach of Positano or the beach of "La Praia" by bus. A nearby very characteristic beach in Praiano is the one called "Gavitella". It can only be reached by foot, descending approximately 400 steps, and it is located in a picturesque inlet right below the village.

If you like hiking, in the area you will find walks that are famous for their extraordinary beauty, such as the "Sentiero degli Dei": Path of the Gods.

Villa Carmen is the right place to stay if you are looking for the most authentic charm of the Amalfi Coast, just out of the frantic holiday life of the most crowded areas.

The tourist spots of the coast are easily reached, since at 20 meters (yards) from the house you can take the local bus, which connects Praiano to the beach of Praia (2 km, 1.5 miles) and with Positano (6 km, 4 miles).

The local bus will take you to the stop for the long distance bus (at 600 meters/660 yards) that will allow you to reach Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento, Naples, Pompeii, Paestum and so on.

Ferries to reach Capri as well as the other villages along the coast are available in Positano (6 km, 4 miles) and in Amalfi (8 km, 5 miles).

It can sleep six persons. On the first level there is a large living room with a balcony with a view of the sea and a kitchen. The living room is furnished with a sofa, armchairs, and a table with chairs. From the living room you can enter the terrace of 15 square meters (160 square feet), with a wide view of the sea, and equipped with table, chairs and garden furniture. The kitchen is equipped with four-burner cooker, oven, refrigerator with freezer, dishwasher, washing machine.

On the bottom level you will find two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Each bedroom has one double bed and one single bed. One of the bathrooms has a bath tub, the other, en suite, has a shower. From both the bedrooms you will be able to enter a nice terrace of 10 square meters (107 square feet), with a view of the sea. A couple of meters (yards) below this terrace there is a gardens, where vegetables are grown. The house is equipped with central heating.

It is possible to park a car close by Villa Carmen. The stop for the local bus is at 20 meters (20 yards), the stop for the out-of-town bus is at 600 meters (660 yards).

The rental price includes: final cleaning; electricity; linens; towels.

A 25% deposit is paid at the time of booking. The balance is due 60 days prior to arrival at the property.

Upon arrival at Villa Carmen the property manager will ask you to pay a security deposit of EUR 200, payable in cash. The security deposit will be returned to you prior to your departure less any charges for accidental damages to the property.
