Villa Liliana is a charming small house with a garden and
terraces which give green valley and sea views. The house is divided into two
apartments, A end B. The house is on two levels and is built on a piece of
sloping land on the side of a hill completely covered in magnificent olive
trees. The house itself is surrounded by olive groves cultivated by the owners. The Mediterranean vegetation of the Parco del Cilento
which is all around the house is luxuriant and splendid.
The house is roughly one and a half km (1 mile) from
Ascea-Velia, an old village built on a hill peak overlooking the sea.
The air is clean and the place is quiet.
From the garden and the terraces your eyes sweep across a
vast panorama: beneath you there is the green hill that slopes gently down
towards the valley and the sea, facing the sea there is a headland where,
clearly visible, is an antique tower called Velia which shows where the
archealogical excavations of the before named place are. In front of you in the distance, on the other side of the
valley you can see the profile of the cone shaped Monte Stella and on its
sloping sides you can make out here and there, in the middle of the greenery,
small, old villages huddled around their own church bell. The most vibrant colours of this landscape is the green
foilage of the olive trees and the blue of the sky and the distant sea.
Villa Liliana is only 6 km (3.5 miles) from the sea and
the wide sandy beaches of Marina di Ascea. These same beaches, which today are
tourist holiday destinations, three thousand years ago hosted the port for the
Greek town of Elea-Velia, which was the seat of a famous school of Philosophy
and the beacon of the Mediterranean civilisation. The remains of this glorious past have been kept in the
Archealogical excavations in Velia-Elea also 6 km (3.5 miles) from the house.
There is a train station at Marina di Ascea 6 km (3.5 miles) away. You
will be able to board the bus that goes to the train station at a stop which is
approximately 10 meters (10 yards) from the villa.
Marina di Ascea gives you plenty opportunity to enjoy many
sports. For example you can play tennis, go skating, go swimming, go
wind-surfing, play football, go water skiing, go horse riding and go for boat
trips or do water immersions along the coast and in the Camerota Caves. You can also enjoy organised group or individual trips to
the famous archeologial sites of Elea-Velia and Paestum or go to discover
characteristic villages of the inland area of Cilento, rich in history and of
traditional crafts and cookery. During the summer season there are many local open -air
shows that you can take part in, including, gastronomical, musical, sportive and
theatrical.
A holiday spent at Villa Liliana is ideal for those who
want to spend their time in amongst the natural beauty and history of the Parco
di Cilento and its famous archeological sites of Paestum and Velia but it is
also easy to reach Pompei, Ercolano, or the Amalfitan and Sorrentian Coasts
going on a day trip.
