There is a terrace from which you can enjoy widespread views of the sea and of Amalfi. A footpath takes you down to the sea. The building dates back to the 14th century and is perfectly conserved in its original structure. It is 1.5 km (one mile) away from the centre of Amalfi. Villa Moresca is built on a peak on the rocky coast, between the road and the sea. You reach it by going down ten steps from the level of the road. After going through the gate, which is on the road, you see immediately the white building of the villa with a roof made of entwined domes, which, white and bright, stand out against the blue of the sea. The house is surrounded by a terrace covered in hand painted majolica, as blue as the sky and the sea. The convenient location of the house, which is not many steps from the road, has the only drawback of making it a bit nosier than one could wish. The terrace has antique terracotta amphorae and long stone benches and is furnished with garden furniture. A pergola of wisteria and bougainvillea shades this entrance. The sea is in front of the house and at the side there is a piece of tiered land cultivated with lemon groves. A stair goes down beyond the house and passes through flowering corners and other cultivated lemon groves until you reach sea level. The altogether is charming and you will fall in love with it as soon as you see it. The inside of the house is also full of charm. The large bedroom has a very high cross-vaulted ceiling made in the Arabian style, which is commonly found on the Amalfitan Coast due to the frequent invasions of the Saracen during the 14th century. When you see the windows built high in the wall it will make you think back to the owners of that time who wanted to sleep in safety. The large room is furnished with antique furniture that perfectly matches the style of the room. There is a double bed and, if necessary, a single bed can be added. The room is kept naturally cool in summer due to the width of the stone walls. There is central heating during the cold season. There is an en-suite bathroom with shower. The room gives you direct entry to the sitting room/kitchen where there is a dining table, a cooker and a fridge. A glass door connects the sitting room/kitchen to a terrace of roughly 10 square meters (110 square feet) tiled in turquoise majolica and furnished with a table, chairs, sun loungers and is shaded by a pergola. While you are lying out on this terrace, sunbathing, you will see only sky, sea and the outline of the Amalfitan Coast. This will become your favourite place to have breakfast in the fresh morning air or to have dinner in the evening under the stars in front of the flickering lights of the coast and the moonlight over the sea. Perhaps, in those moments, your thoughts will go back in time to long ago and you will shiver thinking that you are in a place full of seven centuries of history. Villa Moresca is an annexe of a nearby hotel that is open all year round. The guests of the house can use the services of the hotel, which include a bar and restaurant, organising of arrival and departure transfers (on request) and book excursions to Capri, Pompei, Sorrento, Napoli, Vesusio and Paestum. The bus stop is at a short distance. The public SITA bus service links you via road to all the coastal towns and it is easy to reach Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento, Pompei, Ercolano, Paestum and the Palace of Caserta. From the quay in Amalfi you can catch a ferry or a small cruiser to visit the islands of Capri and Ischia or the mainland towns of Positano, Sorrento and Naples.
