Can we purchase cancellation insurance?

We are indeed able to offer you a rental rescheduling insurance to protect your booking from unexpected change of plans and emergencies. 

We call it "Rental Rescheduling Insurance", as it is meant to give you the opportunity to work around changes of your schedule by moving your reservation to a later or earlier date, as it best fits your plans. The insurance will also protect your investment in case anything happens at the last moment (up to 72 hours before your expected arrival date).  You will not need a specific reason to claim your benefits: no paperwork and no questions asked, just let us know that you will need to move your reservation to a different date.

The Rental Rescheduling Insurance does not cover any other details of your trip such as flights, baggage, health and so on.  For this kind of protection you might want to consult an insurance company in your home country.

How does the Rental Rescheduling Insurance work?

If, for any reason, you decide to cancel your booking we will issue a credit voucher for the amount that you have actually paid for the covered booking less the cost of the insurance.  You will be able to use the credit voucher towards a new booking for the same property.  If, for any reason, the property is not available for the week of your choice, you will be able to use your credit voucher towards a new booking for any Summer In Italy property. The credit voucher is valid from the date it is issued, and it can be used for a new booking to be consumed within three years from the start date of your original booking.  Thus the earlier you request your voucher, the longer your voucher is valid.

How much does the insurance cost?

The cost of the insurance is 7% of the rental cost.  This is not refundable.

How do I purchase the insurance?

The insurance can only be purchased at the time of your booking.  When you fill in the booking form you will be able to apply for the insurance. The cost of the insurance will be added to the rental price, and will be charged along with your first payment. The coverage begins when the payment is received. Summer In Italy reserves the right to reject applications.

How do I submit a claim?

Your claim must be submitted in writing at least 72 hours prior to the contracted start date and time (4 pm GMT+1, less of any special arrangements).  Email, fax, letter and telegram are equally acceptable. Please do not rely on email if you are canceling at the very last moment; rather, give us a phone call and then send a confirmation email to avoid any misunderstanding. 

What is not covered?

For the insurance to cover your cancellation it is mandatory that your claim is received at least 72 hours prior to the contracted start date and time (4 pm GMT+1, less of any special arrangements). Thus the following are not covered: cancellation received within 72 hours of the start date and time; late arrivals, no-shows, missed days of rental, partial stays, early departures, partial postponements. These are all subject to the standard rental terms.  The insurance does not cover any other aspect of your trip such as transportation, baggage, or anything other than the cancellation of the Summer In Italy booking for which the insurance is purchased as detailed above.

How can I use my credit voucher?

Your credit can only be applied towards a new booking for the same property, unless the property is not available for the dates of your choice.  The voucher is not redeemable for cash in whole or in part. The credit voucher can't be used to obtain discounted last minute rates, and can only be used towards bookings at the regular rate for the season. The new booking must be consumed within three years from the start date of the covered booking.  The new booking is not covered by the insurance, but a new insurance can be purchased at the time of rebooking. If the rental cost of the new booking is less than the credit you hold, we will issue a new credit voucher having the same expiration date of the original voucher for the unused amount.  Any amount which has not been used towards a booking to be consumed within three years from the start date of the original booking is forfeited. Subject to the same conditions, you can transfer your credit voucher to a different person at no charge.
